Interesting drving standards in southern Cyprus where I've spent the Xmas holidays.
When coming upon red traffic lights the locals continue to creep forward and often only stop short of the far red in the junction.
Interesting at night time
Traffic in side roads does not always give way and the ubiquitous pick up trucks often drive down the wrong side of the road initially when making a right turn.
Still, petrol was only 43 cents a litre (~ 52 p)

I posted earlier on this site about changing the bulbs, but it seems my problem is a bit more serious.Initially had one main beam failing then a couple of days later the other one went.Changed passenger side today and still no good.I had several spare bulbs and none worked(the bulbs were ok).Side lights are ok.Dipped beam is ok. Fuses for main beams are ok.Light switch seems to be ok as it still controls dash illumination when turned on and the rear fog can come on ok when pulled out.Not really sure what to do next.Any help would be appreciated. Dont rule out switch..has been known for them to fail..??

Please help.
I have just collected a 306 DTurbo from a friends drive where it has been stood for about 7 months. Obviously the battery was totally flat, after I got it started the lights began to flash. Following about 30 seconds they stop flashing, the car starts no problems but when ever you open the door the lights flash again (no siren), Also, unfortunately I do not have the key that goes in the keyhole under the bonnet..
If you turn the headlights on the lights come one fine and the flashing stops, but the LED on the dash flashes all the time and you can still hear the relay clicking for the light flashes
Can anyone help please ? I am happy to disconnect the alarm if possible as long as the central locking still works..
Thanks

Also check all battery connections for corroded terminals, aswell as weak earth points.

I parked my car in front of my house in Nottingham last night, where a one hour stay policy is in use.
I woke up this morning at 11am to find my car had been towed away!
I have to admit that I have had about 14 tickets for parking my car on that same spot, but being on foreign plates I thought I would never receive the fines back home (which is still the case).
Does the council have any authority to tow the car away due to the amount of unpaid fines?
Or if not, does it have the authority to tow the car away for having been on a 1 hour parking area for just 2 hours extra?
Bear in mind that a car on the other side of the road received a ticket, but it has not been removed...
Any info would be welcome, as I suspect the council has behaved out of its right, as the car was not parked in a position that would bother other road users. Read more
It is common knowledge that Nottingham City Council do such things. They also advertise it on their web site:
www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/coun/department/dps/park...p
From experience of friends you were lucky to get to 14 tickets before being towed away. Maybe next time they'll also suggest to the police/DVLA that they may want to check that it is validly registered abroad as well as insured and roadworthy. It has been done in the past as well.
Apologies if this has been here before.

I definately with the view of the last picture being fake. No1, if it was real it would have been with the original pictures, because that is what is so funny - the trucks 'falling' into the water. No2, if you look carefully at the picture the leg of crane is still in its correct position in relation to the truck. If the truck was to tip over into the water then it is almost certain that the leg would have to have broken or given way to allow the truck to tip. Hiab's/cranes in general are designed to stop lifting well before the stabililising devices are in danger of giving way, assuming both vehicle operators were using the equipment correctly then once is unlucky, twice is highly unlikely.
I can't help but think the ride will always be as harsh as a stagecoach (the real thing, not the coaches!)

Being retired I have lot's of time for internet browsing, and Popular Science (Google books) is one of my favourite bookmarks. It's an amazing source of information.
Anyone who cares to check the May 1938 issue will find the original 'Tweel' . It looks just as modern as the 2010 Michelin version, and is described in pretty much the same way....
I had the misfortune over Christmas to drive along what used to be called the A140 which is the main road between Ipswich and Norwich and was apalled at the attempts to turn it back into a cart track.Speed limits of down to 30 mph and 50mph limits on a dual carrigeway.who is responsible for setting these ridculous limits, I know the road passes close to houses but the road was there first!!

Don't know the road in question but, as to the 'which was there first' question, by that logic all those people who've had roads built next to them after their houses were constructed should enjoy the right to determine the speed limits. As a general rule and having seen at first hand the considerable damage caused by high speed accidents in residential areas, I believe speed limits in such areas should be lower than those elsewhere.
Anyone suggest the cheapest suppler for conti ecocontact EP 195/50R15.
Have looked at mytyres, blackcircles, etyres - anyone I missed?
Bought two tyres from Mytyres two years ago at a cost of £69.20, total cost fitted with recommended fitter was £79.20 Same tyres now from Mytyres are £77.60 - with fitting are £93.60 - or an 18% increase which seem a little steep.
Etyres want just under £100 for two tyres fitted, blackcircles more?

about 6 months ago i left my 1999 3.0 S Type Jag at an outdoor car park for 2 weeks whilst on hols. on return the car had a nasty misfire and spluttered for the next few days but it slowly got better. however it never totally dissapeared.
then this week i put it through a car wash and the misfire was back to full splutter again. 2 days no and it is still spluttering !! any ideas. i am guessing this is water or damp somewhere but anyone any experience with this type of car and this problem??
Cheers

misfires on these Jags are usually a problem with one or more of the sparkplugs &/or the coils.(there are 6 coils, one for each cylinder). The passenger side is easy to access under plastic lift-off cover, but the drivers side coils require removal of inlet manifold, not a 5 min job!!Suitable plug in diagnostics to the OBD socket should identify the problem cylinder/s.
About 10 years since I drove in Cyprus but I can still remember the scary moment when I discovered some of the locals preferred driving on the right to the left.
Would be interested to know if things have changed regarding another local practice. On getting back to my hire car in a Limassol car park I was annoyed to find it blocked in by someone parking across a couple of bays. Several other cars were similarly parked and a quick look inside a couple showed that the keys were in the ignition and the doors unlocked. So I simply moved the one blocking me in, got my car out and parked the newcomer in the bay. Not sure if it would work in the UK though.
