I had a car written off a few months back and the insurance company claimed that the number plate belonged to them, who is right??.
The cherrished number plate was of small value, but if it was one of these that fetch 4 - 5 figure sums I would be Very concerned

the plate belongs to the registered keeper according to dvla so you can arrange to transfer it of before you agree settlement.I asked ins agent who told me this.it would be easier to advise ins co that in event of write of you will transfer no plate before settlement, dont forget you pay them to do what you want and if they dont agree take your money elsewhere

Just been trying to find a decent rate for a rental for a car in Sarasota, Florida. The cheapest quote Im getting is exactly HALF that of the rip off rate given by Hertz.

But Hertz looks like the only company that will do GPS system rentals.

Is there any way around this?? i.e renting a GPS system itself would still be cheaper. Are there any places that do this??

Alternatively does anyone know any other rental companies that do cars that include GPS systems??

As you can imagine, with the unfamiliarity of a new place,I would rather not have the extra burden of having to pore over maps in trying to find a place!

(The difference in rentals is just unbelievable i.e £32/day for an SUV/Full Size, all inclusive versus Hertz's £58/day!) Read more

I'd be modifying the heading if I were a mod

Hmmm perhaps, but I have just edited the opening post header, rather than go through all of them, unless you specifically want me to edit them all or delete the thread?

One of my sons and I have a restored Dolomite Sprint to use occasionally. When it's in my carport, I notice how narrow it is, compared with today's cars. e.g. my A3 - probably 5-6 inches in it - yet the amount of interior space in the Triumph is on a par with modern vehicles. Is it because today, cars are designed with more protective metal around them, or is it merely a style thing?

I'm doing an oil and filter change on my Pug 306 HDi today and cannot find the oil capacity in the manual.
Does anyone know please?

The only 306 HDi workshop manual I believe exists is published in French in the "Revue Technique" series, available in many French hypermarkets (ISBN 9782726863916). Even if your French is up to scratch, the text is very short on detail and nowhere up to the Haynes standard. (To be fair, there is a warning that the book is intended for professionals and that details thought to be obvious are not included. Huh!) It says the oil capacity (including filter) is 4.5 litres.

I believe one of the Citroen manuals covers the HDi engine.

Im wondering where the engine number is on the engine?
ive noticed that there is an aluminium plate riveted to the front of the block with a number on it, is this it?
Can anyone help Read more

Pug 205s always had a small Al plate riveted to the front of the block showing the engine code (e.g. K2A, KDY) perhaps with a serial number (can't remember about that). But I haven't been able to find one on my current car (99 306) partly because of the other clutter in the engine bay.

Hello,

I've been browsing these forums recently so thought I might as well post something!

I'm currently 17 and learning to drive at the moment so as you can probably imagine I have quite an interest in cars at the moment.

Just dreaming for a minute, I was wondering what you all think of the styling of modern BMWs. I believe they are quite controversial? Personally I love the styling, particularly of the 1 series - it's so sporty and distinctive. I've also noticed through reading the forums that a lot of you seem to hate drivers of Beemers - why is this? Haha I'm just interested in the thoughts of motorists! I drive a Ford Ka and a Vauxhall Corsa which is my instructors car - talking of 'image' what sort of person does it make you if you drive these?

Cheers! Read more

Styling might not be quite the right word - except for the 6 Series convertible...

Noticed this afternoon some bubbling of the black trim plate that surrounds the rear driver's side passenger window. Its at the bottom of the large vertical section that meets with the driver's door window plate. Anyone come across this before and if so what could be causing it. Think a repair is likely to be as unsightly as the bubbling itself so is it an easy part to a) get hold of (and how costly it likely to be?) & b) physically replace?

Any help appreciated. Read more

There are not too many BMW owners on this forum, so you would probably get more feedback from one of the BMW forums such as www.bmwland.co.uk
