January 2005
Hello,
I've got a Pug 106 (97) with 60000 miles on it which 2 months ago had a new clutch put on and a clutch cable not long before that (a swine of a job!). I've now done nearly 2000 miles on the new clutch, and when I went to go to work this morning the clutch was back to how it was before it was replaced ie heavy and biting near the top of the travel. Its not slipping however, and last night it was fine ie light and biting where it should.
Any ideas/suggesting?
Thanks

Hi and Happy New Year, it's been over a year since I last post
I made a mess last year on a touch up and over done sanding, a year and half later, there is small ring of rust so I should get it painted :)
I read this guide on halford, whould this be ok since i still have the paint cans, sanding paper and rubbing compound from last year
www.halfords.com/268.asp
I think im using the wrong colour primer because it looks like grey when i sanded and i bought white primer.
It's a ford Fiesta 2000 metallic java blue Read more
So can I just follow the halfords guide or is there steps missing in it?
Hi, could anyone shed any light on why the dashboard coolant temperature light should be on? The vehicle is a Fiat Ducato 2.8D 1998.
The temperature gauge shows normal. The coolant level is ok. Theres no apparent leaks. The engine doesn't seem hot (rocker cover is cool) Top hose into radiator is hot, bottom hose is quite hot (not cool)
There is a slight hot coolant smell in the cab when engines been running a while.
I'm sure theres enough clues in the above for someone!!??
Any ideas??? Read more
I know this should be straightforward, but is there an easy way of doing this? Passenger side bulb has failed but it seems quite awkward to replace to me. Read more
Halfords 'Blue' bulbs used to warning on the packet to the effect that they didn't last as long as normal bulbs.
Philips +50% 'normal' bulbs do make a difference!
I have just realised that my 5 year old Rover 214 has never had the antifreeze within the radiator replaced, although levels have always been checked. What I am worried about is corrosion in the radiator.
Should I get it replaced, I am planning to do so myself, is it just a case of undoing one of the bottom hoses and draining out the old and then replacing? But how much roughly will I need, and is it easy enough to do off my driveway without access under the car or should I just take it to the garage. Read more
My daughter has kerbed her nearside front wheel and knocked the tracking out on her Mazda 3. Where would be the best place to get this corrected - the main dealer or one of the national chains like Quickfit?? Any advice would be much appreciated. Read more
Dude, I have used Kwikfit to have the tracking adjusted on my car and was very satisfied with them. It was £20, although that was a while ago and they said to return after about 100 miles and they rechecked it to make sure it was ok.
One of the fuel injectors on my Mondeo 1.8 TD is leaking. Is this likely to be something simple such as needing tightening or a seal replaced, or is the injector itself likely to need replacing? Not having a large enough socket I have not been able to remove it to investigate.
I am assuming (and hoping) that if it needs replacing, it can be replaced on it's own and not as part of the complete set.
Any help appreciated. Read more
Thanks for the quick reply, Quinny. In my initial panic I did not reaaly have a close enough look but after your suggestion it does indeed appear that one of the fuel return hoses is the culprit. The injector body itself is wet from the base of the pipe down.
I hope so, it would make a nice change for one of my motoring problems to be of a simple nature!
Anyone know how to remove the interior door trim without damaging it and to be able to put it back? Previously rattle-free A4 has come back from dealer with annoying trim rattle and non-functional speaker. Neither time nor inclination to take it back to dealer so I have to fix it myself.
Trim was removed to try to find central locking fault that was eventually traced to a blown fuse!

Parkers guide have stopped valuing older cars

Autotrader (use link on the left) has a K Reg VR6 with 120000 miles for £2750. And various others between £2800 and £2900.
Sometimes for older cars actual sale values are the better guide rather than book values.
Would be leaving to the USA for a week in Sarasota,Florida- purely business visit. Was thinking however of taking a flight to Atlanta(500 miles away) 2 days before, renting a car and driving down over 2 days.Advantages are that I would be able to see most of the real USA as well as enjoying a long distance drive.Unashamedly enjoys driving!
Anyway when I actually got down to planning it ,there are a couple of issues.
1)My first visit to the US and apart from a few short trips in Europe, havent driven at all in a left hand car.
2)Traffic conditions-About how different they are and whether that would cause any major problems.(I read the news of an accident in ?Florida, about a month back, family on holiday from London who took a wrong U turn and was flattened by an HGV.I think all 4 died)
3)Road signs and Directions-Here I am fully reliant on the Navigator which takes the hassle out of trying to think about the route.Wouldnt have that while there because paying £120 for a set of Tom Tom maps for a 6 day journey is a bit unaffordable.
4)Speed limits-think its 60mph, though not sure on this.
Anyone else who has driven/knows about the traffic conditions in the US,would appreciate your responses.Any other likely problems, would appreciate any feedback at all!
Am I just being too ambitious and is it best to just shelve the whole idea and take a train, or even fly directly to Florida!
Thanks

How did u get on?
I find driving in the US a dream compared to hear as everyone seems more placid behind the wheel.
Update:-
The clutch has mysteriously returned to normal. Thanks for all the advice.
