p.s. I drove my large 4x4 all the way through central London today. It wasn\'t snowing, I was carrying no farm equpiment, and I didn\'t encounter any speed bumps.
I shall be doing again tomorrow - nyaah, nyaah, nyaah.
p.p.s. and I paid the congestion charge; although with the mpg of a Landcruiser and the cost of parking, I\'m not sure what difference a £5 charge is supposed to make. Read more

And while they are at it, tell me what "retail standard" means. I've just entered my car and the retail standard value is more than double the "clean" value.
I have seen some cars for sale at main dealers that I wouldn't even call "clean".
A friend is thinking of getting rid of one of his cars. One, a Daewoo Kalos, is relatively easy to price. The other is a bit tricky.
Any ideas on what he should ask for on the following?
Citroen C3 1.4HDi 16v SX
52 plate (2002)
58,000 miles
Full Citroen SH
With those kind of miles you can throw the price guides away. Any suggestions?

6,500 for a used daewoo kalos?
ok its low mileage, but the car was a old school daewoo design and they are ging for that price brand new.
i thought 4,500 might be more realistic. The citreon is probably worth more - just make sure the cheap citreon c3 interior is still all stuck together and you should get around 4,500 without any hassle.
Engine is 1.8 petrol.
I have oil smoke on startup when hot.
It happens when the car is shutoff for 5 minutes or longer, after having warmed up. It lasts about a second and is gone.
Plugs look good, compression 180-190 PSI.
New valve guides + seals 20,000 miles ago.
Was pinking for a while, backed off ignition and jetted up.
Pinking gone, but this problem is getting more frequent and intense.
Ta for any help .

I'm not sure a thin synthetic 5w-40 would be suitable for an 80 - I presume it's a mid to late 80's car?.
A mineral 10w-40 with a bit more 'body' might be more suitable particularly if it's done a high mileage.
Totally dead. Why oh why oh why will people not move over?
Saturday morning, going up the nearly empty M11 just inside the M25. Car A in middle lane, me in inside lane. Go out, overtake & back in.
Car B behind me decides he's not prepared to move that far over. So in middle lane behind car A that won't move over, sits 15 feet from car A & flashes his lights, several times. Eventually car A looks in his mirror & moves over, car B continues on his way.
Soon enough, Car A moves back into middle lane.
Comments, please BR? Did Car B do the right thing or not? And what about Car A? Did he allow himself to be bullied unnecessarily?
A little later, going up the A12 towards Ipswich. Joined the A12 at the M25. At the same time a silver Ford Ka joined. The road was pretty busy. Every time I pulled out to overtake, silver Ka was sitting in my rearview mirror, in the outside lane.
We went on like this all the way virtually to Ipswich. He never left the outside lane, I spend most of the time in the inside lane. This means that not a single car passed him between London & Ipswich Grrrr!

I take it no-one did the old 'approach in lane 1,
indicate and swing out to 3, pass then change indication and
swing all the way back to 1, while glaring pointedly into
rear view mirror' trick?
Funnily enough - no :o) Sooooooo tempting, though...
You forgot the 10 second flash of the headlamps, btw.
Should have taken down their numbers and complained.
Yes, probably. But it's a subjective offence, and my word against theirs. I did when the plod van was speeding at 90+ two days running as that was a black & white offence.
I hope I don't get pulled over in the next few days. It's going to be very difficult not to say the wrong thing.
Hi i\'m new here can anyone tell me why my car won\'t start sometimes, it turns over fine but doesn\'t fire i think it may be the immobiliser, sometimes when i turn off i hear a beep beep beep from under the bonnet although this does not correspond to the starting problem. i have tried locking and unlocking the car several times & sometimes it then starts, maybe just a coincidence? Also does anyone have info on the rear electric sunshade as mine stopped working awhile ago when it was serviced by my vauxhall agent i asked them to have a look at it, for which they charged me £98 it worked for 3 days! i asked what was done they said the motor needed to be replaced they had only adjusted? it. when i bought the car i looked at several other ones their sunshades didn\'t work so i bought this one because it did and for quite awhile after. thanks blue

Great site to visit lots of ideas to try out nothing about sunblinds yet though!
The radiator on my Synergie has failed after 110 k miles and 8 years. I've had to do a similar job on the BX and XM I owned before the Synergie but I just wanted to ask if any spanner-meisters out there have any hints or tips or pitfalls to pass on? The car has air-con.
TIA

Well I can\'t agree with you there, Andy. The intercooler, condenser and radiator all clip together neatly off the car but getting the rad. out from under was a bit tricky when they were all in situ. Added to which I undid the 10mm bolt holding the air-con pipes by mistake after an interruption from my beloved. Got a face-full of chilly air-con juice and saturated overalls. (Cue raucous laughter).
Added to which the new Valeo rad. has a hole for a temp. sensor where the old one has none. Have rung round for any old pug or citroen temp senders but dead senders are consigned to the bin immediately it seems. One is eagerly awaited by post from the rad. supplier but first post round here arrives about 4 pm.
Added to which there is precious little room to refit the vile push-fit bottom hose connector. Who is responsible for this cachet of automotive misery, anyway? I\'d like to shake him warmly by the throat.
2.5 hours, not counting the lie-down and the half-gallon of ale needed to steady the nerves last night. But even with the air-con recharge I\'m still at half the price for the job from a Citroen garage.

Went to book a day-trip to France and notice that all cross channel comapnies on the Dover Calais route have slashed their prices. Aparantley this follows a move by Eurotunnel.
For example we booked in January for a 17 day trip in August and were happy with the quote of £162. Had we booked in May that price would have been £340.
Now they will book it for £142.
Our day-trip on Eurotunnel this week will cost £56, 5 day returns are around £100.
Don't know how long this offer will last. We have used ferryoffers.co.uk and have not been disappointed. Read more
