Mystic

Hi,

This a bit of strange one I know, but its proving to be a difficult question.

I'm got a trailer tent, which is currently in the UK. Its a standard unbraked affair with a gross weight of about 450kg. However I'm currently trying to work out the best way to export it to Luxembourg.

The problem I've got is getting it there. The tow car is Lux registered, so when I speaking to the insurance company about towing with it they start asking me for the plate number of the trailer, which i don't have as the trailer isn't registered in Lux.

I seriously considering just sticking the same plate thats on the car on the back of it and just driving it across regardless.

Any thoughts?

Thanx,
James. Read more

it would need the same registration no as the car,I think what they are looking for is the number from the small plate often on the drawbar with the max weight stamped on it .all new trailers should have an official weight plate with axle weights ,serial no etc ,(I know its not very heavy but the rules sometimes dont add up )also you should check the max unbraked trailer weight of the towing vehicle.it should be ok at 450 kg but might be wise to check

Been looking a airport parking. Each search engine (all the same engine with different "partners") gives a difference price.

Best price I have found (8 days) for MAN is with BCP Online accessed from the RAC site (you dont need to be a rac member)

The AA offer a similar service but you need to enter a membership number to get the special price.

Just out of interest can someone who is a AA member look up cost for 8 days (say 26June/3Jul). The non discount price is APH 42.50 / On Airport 46.40 /Car Minder 38.00 /MAN short stay 64.00 / Autostrong 36.00

How much are they quoting for AA members?

Or do they stop every innocent person filling up a 1986 Volvo 360 that, frankly who would want to steal?

I mean, at 7:00 on a Monday morning, why would they think a person filling up his Volvo is even remotely suspicious.

And they wonder why the public has no confidence in the police.

That\'s right Bazza Having hurtled myself down the road at a breakneck speed for 2 miles i finally managed to catch the mysterious car. And there i sat quite happy with progress 80-85 mph A road Very light traffic, thinking shall i overtake or just follow then the nice kind Inspector lit the lights for about 5 seconds. Oh dear i thought, then the lights go out and thats that. Good on him, probably didn\'t want to do the paperwork.

Just curious, as there's no "HJ" signature (or any other signature) at the end of the reports.

My brother-in-law will shortly welcome an extra family member. Sadly, this is due to the sudden and untreatable illness of one of his extended family, a single parent who is unlikely to survive into the autumn. As well as the obvious emotional traumas this involves, some practical issues have to be considered. They've been running a banger as family transport for them and their three children. Now that a fourth young child will unexpectedly be living with them fairly soon, they've asked me for suggestions for a six- or seven-seater car they can afford. Due their circumstances (mainly centring around health) the household is on a low income, so what they can afford is very little - less than £1500, probably. My brother-in-law said he'd heard of seven-seat Peugeot 405 estates, but I shudder to think of the potential reliability problems with that car - they have enough on their plate without having to constantly worry about breakdowns, repairs, etc. Because of the family's specific needs, I'm having trouble thinking of a car with at least six seats that will be affordable to them, reasonably reliable, and cheap to repair in the event that this becomes necessary.
For example - I was half thinking about a high-mileage Merc seven seater - at least those were well built, and I've seen diesel-engined versions with 150k on the clock for about a grand. However, I imagine that this car might be too costly to insure, or to repair if problems arise.
I would be very grateful for any suggestions that could meet the criteria described above.
Thanks in advance.

Happy Blue!

I wondered what had happened. Condolences about the mother, but obviously delighted that the daughter has settled in.

Alhambra's are good cars, for some reason, seem to be better than the Ford and VW versions. Long may it provide the sort of service it is required for.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

I have just taken in PX a lovely old 2 owner Saab 9000 CSE with Full History; it drives superb normally however it does have an unusual problem. IF you accelerate hard as soon as you hit 3000rpm the engine seems to kick back (almost like cutting out) then power up again. This only happens under hard acceleration and will keep happening until you ease off the throttle. It is possible to GENTLY accelerate almost to 5000rpm with no such symptoms. Has anyone any ideas before I resort to expensive Garage Diagnostics? Read more

Hi, my wife's Cavalier engine seized up two days before mot was due so we decided to scrap the car. The Cav has standard CD Vauxhall Alloys 14" but the Corsa I bought for her has 13" steel wheels.

I would like to know could 14" wheels be put on the car and would it be safe to do so or info on any other upgarde or problems that may occur from this.

Reason I'm asking is cos the Corsa needs two new tyres and the Cav has just had 4 new BFG tyres on it.

Cheers

as the others have mentioned, the width of the wheel/tyre must be acceptable, but the crucial one is that the overall diameter (and therefore circumference) of wheel+tyre must be the same as before, or your speedo and odometer will read incorrectly.

If it turns out that they do not fit, sell the set on Ebay rather than scrapping them with the car

I have a 2 1/2 year old Audi 2.0 Avant. The dealer has a good offer going up to 30th June (end of quarter- bonus-that sort of thing). I fancy a new 130PS diesel with multitronic transmission and quoted delivery is September. But apparently a new face lifted one is due in January 2005. Does it make sense to buy at a good deal and then maybe suffer a bigger loss when trading-in an "old model" 3 years down the line. Read more

>>it will still hold its value, as Audis and VWs do

Erm, not that well. And the depreciation tends to be higher owing to higher initial cost - read HJ's guide to buying a car.

SWMBO reported that her car felt funny and the steering wheel vibrated.
On inspectin of the front tyre there is a piece of tar abot a foot in length and the full width caked onto the tread of front nearside tyre
Any sugestions as to how the heck I can get this off without damaging a relatively new tyre or is it a new tyre? Read more

Using one of the aerosols of 'freezer' on the tar will make it solid and it will peel off in one solid piece (useful to remember if you ever get any on clothes).

Forum VW Touran

Hi all

Was wondering - are any of you, or do any of you know any VW Touran owners? My boss has set me the task of finding three to feature in a research film he's putting together. Apparantly there's a few bob in it for anyone that agrees to be filmed for 'a day in the life of a Touran driver'. It's not for TV or broadcast I might add.

Any help much appreciated - I'll email my phone number to anyone who'll take part or knows anyone that might be interested.
Cheers

I have recently bought a VW Touran Sport TDi which I am very happy with and wouldn't mind contributing to your bosses research.
