Could someone please clarify the position on 3/4 year old Accord 1.8 (VTEC) and Avensis 1.8 (not VVT).
Do they have belts or chains and what are the replacement mileages?
Appreciate some help. Read more
Just a little bit of info (if anyone is interested) - the 2.4 engine in the current Accord has a chain-driven camshaft.

If I can change the heading slightly I\'ve started a new thread. ND , how much of your salary is used just to commute to work?
I live in Scotland, travel 30 mile round trip along an uncongested motorway. Takes me at the most 20 mins each way.
I realise compared to some of the backroomers I am lucky in this regard.
But doing some rough calculations, according to Auto Express an average price per mile for a Mondeo is 65p. So, if you are travelling 100 miles a day, that in effect equates to £65 a day, £315 per week (for a 5 day week), £1200 roughly a month.
Over a year, that could be £14500 coming off your salary AFTER Gordon and his cronies have taken their cut.
Now I know that some cars will be company cars, some will be expensed etc etc, but I feel that it would be a real eye opener if we looked at it from this angle.
If I worked within a mile or so of my house, I could lose the second car and save £500 on Tax and Insurance straight away. That in effect means I could take a pay cut of say £700 or so and not be any worse off.
Maybe went on too much, but hopefully you get the drift! Instead of travelling hours each way to a stressful job, we could all maybe take up a less paid, less stressful job nearer home and still be better off, both financially and healthwise!!
Then we might not all head for foreign shores..... Read more

A colleague has a 4 wheel drive Previa type 2.2 diesel import and he thinks the turbo has gone or some other top end problem.
To try and locate parts is apparentlly proving to be a nightmare. The market seems to be flooded with these imports from GTO'S to motorbikes.
when turning a corner with the clutch pedal pressed down ,does this burn a clutch out???????????? Read more
.diff controls
wheel speed on bends/turns ie it allows wheels to turn at
different speeds without affecting the engine speed/revs.
Different speeds, yes, but for a given engine speed they are necessarily constrained by the differential. Any reduction in speed of one wheel has to be compensated by an exact increase in speed of the other. I was wondering what happened if the preferred speeds for each wheel, as determined by the ABS, were not permitted by the differential. That I think was the basis of the declutching theory.
Is it possible to actually adjust a hydraulic clutch, like it is with cable types? My handbook doesnt actually give any spec? The car is a 1991 Celica, can I assume if the clutch pedal is in line with brake pedal it is ok?

Can anybody help please? When attempting to lock car from drivers or passenger door lock the key opens and closes all electric windows at first key position before actuating central locking when key turned fully. I would at least like to deactivate control for window operation from door key, does anybody know location of relays / fuses / control boxes? Central locking pump / control unit has been swopped out but problem persists. Many thanks in anticipation.

I have an S reg. peugeot 406 1.8 L and find that rainwater is collecting in the front passenger foot-well - gallons of it. I have today cleared about 20 litres. There is no sign of any water coming past the door seals and no obvious signs of ingress elsewhere. It is worse when parked nose down on a slope. Any ideas please? Read more
Leak found - front corner of boot seal. Water running down behind the trim and finding its way to the front. Thanks for the help.
We have a number of "students" of chinese extraction coming here, and also have the 12-month rule for foreign licences. A couple of years ago, there was a lot of trouble with such drivers, so the A.A. investigated. They reported that, in China, ALL instruction was undertaken on test tracks, and the first time that a driver actually met real live traffic was AFTER receiving his full licence. It showed !
