Hi

I bought the above model with 90k on the clock on Friday. 1st & 2nd gears pull fine all the way through the rev range, but 3rd-5th pull fine & then start dropping back/start losing power. I had a Renault 5 turbo years ago which did the same thing & that was the head gasket. Does anyone know if there is a sure way of telling if it is the head gasket (compression test or something).

Thanks
Lee

I know this may be skating on thin ice mods so if it needs ammending or deleting, be my guests :-)

To cut a long story short - went to Ford before to buy a new cd player. Here is how the conversation transpired.

Me: "Hello - I have a 99 Focus and the Cd part of the stereo is broken so I need to fix it"

Ford: "Sorry - can't be fixed"

Me: "But you haven't seen it"

Ford: "You need a new one"

Me "Ok I'll have new one"

Ford: "What model is in?"

Me: "A 6000RDS"

Ford: "Ok sir that will be £350"

Me: "Sorry?"

Ford "£350"

Me: "I only want the Cd player"

Ford: "Yes - that is £350"

Me: "For the cd player...."

Ford: "Yes"

Me: "The cd player that is mediocre and I'm only buying so it doesn't look out of place with the dash?"

Ford: *silence"

Me: "Ok - bye"

Went to Halfords (yes I know dont' say anything) and bought a Sony 6 disc changer and Ford adapter for £200.

Wasn't so short after all was it?

Well NW I was lured by the 7 billion watt mixing desk compatibility
with Sky Digital Receiver incorporated into the sleek neon
design but at the end of the day I just want to listen to a cd!

Listen to a what? A CD? Are you an archaeologist or something?? ;-) [huge grin]

Sounds like a flagrant breach of the Street Credibility Act, but don't worry -- even if they do decide to prosecute, the CPS will probably screw up so mightily that they'll have to apologise to you!

I returned from France yesterday having covered about 2,000 miles in my Accord diesel. There were a couple of problems, and I wonder if anyone else has experienced these.

The fuse - 20 amps - which protects the horn and brake lights blew a couple of times. I don't know when this occurred as I only discovered it when I went to blow the horn and it failed to work. This happened twice, and it may have been due to having to use the brakes frequently when in traffic jams.

The second problem was with the glow plug warning light when on a number of occasions it started flashing. According to the handbook this indicates a problem with the engine emissions and the car should not be driven. The solution is to start the engine and then stop it and restart after thirty seconds. This should be done three times. If it fails to go out then the dealer must be contacted and the car can only be driven carefully for a short distance.

The weather was very hot - 31C+ - and this happened when the car was started after being parked in hot sunshine. It also happened on one occasion when I was driving.

Returning home from France neither of the problems have since happened. I'll be contacting the dealer on Monday, and I'd be interested to hear from anyone with similar problems.

I have had exactly the same problem.

The brake light fuse went out while i driving with a trailer, due to wire fracture in the trailer....

Need to take off the exhuast to lower it to fit a towbar. Anybody know how to take off the silly rubber things that hold the exhaust in place. One is screwed on, the other I don't know.

With the help of a mate holding the spring clip in position, get under the car and thread a rope throught the bottom loop of the clip, and then get a lever bar and tie the rope around it to make a big loop and then pull like billy o, this i must say could result in injury keep fingers clear of clip and dont let the lever bar be in a position to clock you if rope breaks,

A friend of mine is in the market for a used family car, he has approx 8-9k to spend. He wants a 5 door family car, but something that is boring and mundane. My advice to him would be to buy a Used Honda Accord, relaible, well built etc etc, but he is more interested in something like a VW Passat 1.8SE or Volvo s60. He is not at all keen on Modeao, 406, Vectra etc etc...my, at 8-9k he could buy a used high ,mileage Audi A6 or BMW 525, but in my opinion if anything major was to fail then it could cost dearly.

I have also suggested to him a tdi vw passat available for 6-7k or Accord for 5k and pocket the spare cash. He wants car that has reasonable running costs.

Does any body have any suggestions.

Thanks for any replies. Read more

You can get the new shape Nissan Primera five-door for around the price stated these days (8k) - styling is certainly different and kids will love the toys such as the rear-view parking camera if you can find the particular specification models in used form.

Hi,

This a bit of strange one I know, but its proving to be a difficult question.

I'm got a trailer tent, which is currently in the UK. Its a standard unbraked affair with a gross weight of about 450kg. However I'm currently trying to work out the best way to export it to Luxembourg.

The problem I've got is getting it there. The tow car is Lux registered, so when I speaking to the insurance company about towing with it they start asking me for the plate number of the trailer, which i don't have as the trailer isn't registered in Lux.

I seriously considering just sticking the same plate thats on the car on the back of it and just driving it across regardless.

Any thoughts?

Thanx,
James. Read more

it would need the same registration no as the car,I think what they are looking for is the number from the small plate often on the drawbar with the max weight stamped on it .all new trailers should have an official weight plate with axle weights ,serial no etc ,(I know its not very heavy but the rules sometimes dont add up )also you should check the max unbraked trailer weight of the towing vehicle.it should be ok at 450 kg but might be wise to check
