one of the people in work has an 02 reg MX5 1.8. She has noticed corrosion on the alloy wheels and took it back to the Dealers (which she didn't get it from by the way) Service Manager said that "we've had a lot of these" the wheels will be replaced under warranty, problem is that there are so many being replaced that it will take until Sept or Oct for this to be done....if you have an MX5 check the wheels. She reported flakes of alloy coming off as she cleaned them... Read more
I have read this magazine since I was spotty PU ack in the 70s.
I have become increasingly disappointed with its format of late and am seriously re-considering my subscription.Tabloid presentation and the occasinal use of language (totally needless) that would get the writer kicked out of the BR and increasingly sloppy editing of a once fine and erdudite magazine which had the bonus of world class photography.
Despite the above I was enjoying a detailed read last night and had to do a double take according to its article on the forthcoming Peugeot 1007 - this new megabeast has a 0-60 of 3.0 seconds and a top speed of 253 mph, all out of a 1.0litre Diesel (albeit HDi). What else do they get wrong if this sneaks past its editors....? Read more
I don't live in London and I despise the metropolitan bias of most national media, but I'm afraid HJ is absolutely spot-on with this. Not the first time that good old Emap bought a brilliant publication and...stuffed it straight into the corporate sausage machine.
As usual, their witless number crunchers didn't tune into the fact that you just can't produce a cutting edge magazine with a national and international following from a business park in Dullsville. Car WAS the best. Now? Just another sub-Clarkson comic. Well done, Emap - another great result!
Do I have an axe to grind? I can think of better things to do with my axe than grind it...
My Land Rover Defender 90 Td5 has plenty of power through the gears but seems to run out of gears. Did Land Rover make two types of gear box with different ratios or would an overdrive be the solution? If so do you have any experience of types to consider or avoid?
(PS I am in high ratio)

check the tyre size matches the gearbox /axles as some should/can be fitted with oversize tyres ,if you post up your tyre size I will try to help with alternatives.
I don't if my wife's Punto is supposed to do this but when you change gear (and take your foot off the accelerator)it quite noticeable maintains the same revs for a second or to before it drops. In fact the rev counter even increases slightly before dropping.
Is this normal? Read more
Don't know if this is related or not:-

Does anyone have a view on the merits of either of the above for use in Canada? The priorities are safety and economy.

Thanks very much both - the Suzuki sounds promising and there's nothing wrong with a Yaris derivative, is there?
So food for thought.....
Got an s reg xsara, how long over a service interval is ok regarding oil filters etc. How many miles over would be ok 100 1000 5000miles???? xsaras need 12500 between service. may just go to national 4 a cheap oil change Read more
Go to National anyway, £15 for semi-synth is probably cheaper than you could do it yourself for!
My last Vauxhall was a 3 litre Senator which I loved, gladly a company car so I didn't pay for it!
Since then, working for myself I've had Fords , Passats and a Rover 827 (bad move) but in Feb, deciding it was best to move on my Mondeo , impulsively bought one of the last Omegas from a dealer who had bought a lot from Vauxhall .
As it was a long way away , I didn't test drive and nearer delaers didn't have any, but I thought it's a great price and how bad can it be?
it's bad , in a long-term depressing sort of way, but has what should be a simple problem with its audio unit . In short AM is inaudible .FM has very poor pickup 4 visits so far to get it fixed, dealer staff telling me it's a reception problem (tho I've lived in the same area and driven in it for over 10 years)
Now involving Vauxhall Customer Care - incredible .it's a contradiction in terms Read more
I suspect that Marlot has hit the nail on the head. ISTR that the Omega uses the heated rear window as the radio aerial, so there will be an amplifier somewhere in the car to provide power to it, or maybe the power feed is through the radio aerial cable itself like Ford/VW/Seat use on the Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra. If you have the keys to remove the radio, and a spare rod aerial, you could spend 10 minutes one Saturday morning to prove this.
does anybody know what might be causing a creaking sort of sound coming from my drivers side back wheel area? the sound occurs usually when im setting off from standing. Read more
Start off by checking basics such as shock absorbers.
Most likely to be the rubber bushes which sit between axle and chassis. I believe this is a fairly common problem on old pug 306 and cit ZX. The rear axle/torsion bar need to be parted from chassis and rubber bushes replaced. Not a small job, mounting bolts/nuts are somewhere under rear seats.
Im currently considereing purchasing the above and would appreciate some advice. Its Black, done 82K (problem?) and asking priice is £4250. Any thought on whether this is reasonable buy and is the 1.4 75BHP really big enough to shift a car this size? Cheers in advance! Read more
Parker's comes up with £5,815 (dealer) for a 30k example. AutoTrader uses the What Car prices link as given earlier.
Hi, I have been looking around for fix for a solution to my problem with a new CD/MP3 Roadstar dashboard unit in an older Vauxhall Vectra, but have been unsuccessful. Hopefully you can help me discover a solution to the problem. The display on the new unit doesnt work properly, it wont display any text for radio stations ect when installed in the vectra, but I have been told it worked fine in an Omega.
Apart from the display the unit works perfectly, it seems possible the vectra's display is causing the problem as it displayed the text for radio stations for the previous official vauxhall tape/radio unit. Any suggestions on how to solve this problem or an insight to why this happens would be greatly appreciated. Read more
There's nothing wrong with using the more aggressive wheel cleaners, provided they get a very good jet wash immediately.
and then take it for a drive to dry the brakes out
