Engine is 1.8 petrol.
I have oil smoke on startup when hot.
It happens when the car is shutoff for 5 minutes or longer, after having warmed up. It lasts about a second and is gone.
Plugs look good, compression 180-190 PSI.
New valve guides + seals 20,000 miles ago.
Was pinking for a while, backed off ignition and jetted up.
Pinking gone, but this problem is getting more frequent and intense.
Ta for any help .

I would suggest you have wear in either the valve guides, valve stems or valve seals. Or all of them.
Do you drive off immediately after start up? Try letting the engine idle for 5 to 10 seconds each time you start up before driving off. It does wonders for engine life.
Also try using an oil with a lower 'winter' rating, keeping the 'summer' rating the same. So if 10W40 is specified, try using 5W40. This will improve the flow when cold. It may mean moving from semi to fully synthetic, but this is a good thing too.

The thinner oil will probably increase the amount of smoke;it may not be wear in the valve stem seals-they may have gone hard and not seal properly till they get hot.

Am running synthetic 5w40 at the moment, problem is worst when hot starting, or warm starting 2-3 hours later, doesn't seem as bad when cold starting, maybe it burns off the oil slower when not as hot.
Valve seals and guides replace 25,000 miles ago.
Would a burning or poorly sealing valve overheat itself, damaging the seal? It certainly looks like the seals.
I could try some oil additive and see what happens.
Thanks for the help.

Valve stem oil leakage,

I'm not sure a thin synthetic 5w-40 would be suitable for an 80 - I presume it's a mid to late 80's car?.
A mineral 10w-40 with a bit more 'body' might be more suitable particularly if it's done a high mileage.
