The battery of a 1999 Honda Civic was flat but re-charged before I bought the car about 2 weeks ago. It worked fine last week and is still working, but there is some kind of "sizzling" sound comes from the area around the cigarette lighter before the engine is started. Is that an indication of flat battery or something else? Could it be that some tiring have gone wrong? I am new to car, any advice is most welcomed. Read more

A non genuine filter would probably void your warranty.
Both Quik fit and National use Coopers filters which are well recognised in the trade
Evenin' all.
My car's rear window has tinting film applied to it (sad I know, but the car was like that when I bought it). Recently however, the film seems to be coming unstuck, leaving lots of little air bubbles which are now severely hampering rear visibility. I've tried rubbing the affected areas with a duster to try and get it to re-attach, but to no avail. My question is, can I peel off the film and try re-applying it, or will I have to renew the whole lot (or just do away with it altogether..)
Thanks in advance for any advice. Read more
If you find that some of the adhesive stays on the
screen and is hard to shift then a little white spirit
should do the trick.
Or some of that lovely orange-zest smelling sticky stuff remover you can get these days.

Has anyone driven the new Accord 2.2 iCTDi? I test drove it today - it drove like a petrol engine but pulls faster in low revs. Very smooth and very impressive. However, price (20k) is in the small exec bracket and depreciation is likely to be faster than BMW/Audi. Plan to test drive the A4 1.9TDi soon as well as the BMW 320dES.
What do others think of these cars?

Made my choice - the Audi A4's multitronic transmission wins the day. Just ordered it from drivethedeal for nearly £3800 off the list price!
recently i recieved a letter from my insurance company asking why i had not reported an accident which happened 12 months ago.
After the initial shock i explained that there hadn't been one, i was then given time/date/location and informed them that not only had i ever been there i had no idea where it was.Now i am informed that i may lose my no claim bonus of 27 years. Does this kind of scam happen a lot. Read more
If the claim against Chris was based simply on a sighting of a no.-plate, who would swear in court that he had seen (e.g.) W503PKJ rather than WS03PXJ ? Of course if it was recorded on camera it would be a certainty .. ..
I am looking to buy a radar speed camera detector, but all sites say that they do not work to well with heat reflecting windscreens. I have a Clio with a heat reflecting windscreen but in the middle of the windscreen at the bottom there is a blank area to put parking tickets etc. i.e this area is a different colour. Does anyone know if this is not heat reflecting and if so would a radar detector work?
Thanks Read more
Wie's Clio has the clear patch in the lower middle of the creen, I have been told it is for radar detectors though have not tried it.
This follow up to my previous gearbox woes
Last year garage say my gearbox has a fault - bring it in next year, no time left this year ... 'sir'
This year, garage can't find any fault ... 'sir'
Complain to Renault UK - garage has final say ... 'sir' ... you can take it to another garage for a second opinion!
Need to go back to the garage for rattles to be fixed ... 'sir' Renualt UK have discovered some Lagunas have a gearbox problem, can you bring yours in and we'll see if is one of them
It is! So I'll be taking it in tomorrow for two weeks
I guess that this is one of those 'Need to know' type recalls.
Hopefully this time it'll get fixed

My 1998 golf is due an oil change. Do I take it to the VW dealership where it will cost me about £80 or do I take it to a chain like Kwit Fit or similar where it costs less. Which in your past experience is better? Why the difference in prices?
Thanks

I too like changing my own oil as there is no way any mechanic is going to take the same amount of care (unecessary as it may be)as I do when doing the job. Being able to do the job for less than National charges, while using a better quality oil(full synth), is just icing on the cake.
I'm 20 and drive a 99 Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec LX, have done since I first passed when I turned 17... 73,000 later and I've still got it and it's running fine. It's a good little car, but I didn't realise just how good until today.
You see I've been looking to upgrade when I turn 21, as my insurance premium appears to plumet considerably when that day comes. I'm not a boy racer, I prefer to just sit back and relax most of the time, but like to have a bit of poke every now and then.
I've set myself a budget of £7000, not including the £2000 I expect to get for the Fiesta. So far I've driven a Rover 75 2.0CDT, a 2.3 V5 SEAT Toledo and a 1.8T Audi A4 (top of my budget!). None really impressed me as much as I was expecting... the ride was better, as was the amount of noise in the cabin compared to my Fiesta, but it really showed me what a great fun little car my Fiesta is with its responsive 1.25 engine. Perhaps they just didn't feel as nippy or fun because they were so much more refined, but it's got me wondering whether to get rid of my Fiesta now.

The bike sounds truly awsome!
As far as the car goes, You've got a number of options here.
If you genuinely like the fiesta and don't want to give it up, then to get over your security problem, may I suggest folding the front seats down or even taking them out and fabricating a large parcel shelf to cover the whole loadspace. In addition think about a reasonable alarm system (you would probably want one on any car with that thing in it).
If you seriously want to upgrade then go for something with bigger boot space. Don't just go for a larger car. Possibilities include:
Astra estate (with parcel shelf)
Golf estate (ditto)
Renault Megane
Peugeot 306 estate with parcel shelf/screen
...
You get the picture.

Before Castrol brought out a diesel specific version of GTX (I think it was in the early 1990s), they were facing competition from other brands who had diesel specific oils. A Castrol representative was interviewed in a magazine and claimed that the standard GTX was fine in all private car diesel engines at that time, and that Castrol had only decided to produce GTD in response to consumer demand for a diesel specific oil.
The implication being that GTD was no better/worse than GTX for engines of that era.
I won't take this argument to apply to more modern cars, most of which have more stringent oil requirements.

You haven't left the air re-circular on, and the buzzing sound you can hear is the flap moving to redirect the air flow from outside the car to inside perhaps?
