Question Focus Diesel
Snakey

I have an annoying problem with my 02 Focus Tdi - when started from cold there is a squealing which sounds a bit like a fanbelt slipping which disappears after a few minutes - the belt has been replaced and a mechanic has checked all the pulleys etc and can't identify which one might be causing the noise as they're so close together.

Has anyone heard of one of the pulleys or tensioner being a common failure point on these? Its an 02 1.8Tdi, and I dont fancy replacing each pulley one by one to get rid of the noise!

Thanks for the replies - I guess I'll try the detection methods, access to the pulleys is really tight which is the only problem

I'll let you know what I find out!

Presumably they just haven't seen your ad, but they have registered their requirements with Automatch, whose "trawlers" have seen it

One thing patricularly riles me about drivers and that is their use ( or non-use) of lights. I see cars every morning and evening in twilight hours who will just not switch their lights on and it drives me nuts. Surely there must be some way that manufacturers can make lights with infra red sensors that switch themselves on and off like street lights Read more

Maybe I didn't read correctly first time. On approaching a bend I do flick back to dipped so that I can see if there are any headlights shining onto the hedges etc, from the opposing direction.

G,

In Pattaya, Thailand at the moment. The place is swamped with HD's. Being in that world as it were, do you know is there an organised meet on?

How refreshing! Not once does the article refer to Ukraine as The Ukraine.

I have heavily edited this thread.

Suffice to say that many of our contributors agreed with FiF and felt unable to recommend this company.

And I think we\'ll leave it there, if you don\'t mind.

Thank you.

Just had car mot'd today and failed on three points. One tyre worn exhaust blowing cos of loose clamp. Got all four tyres replaced for £80 and the clamp tightened free. Last point, car in crash and repaired at main dealer. Sill replaced but failed mot cos spot welded not welded full length. Is this a fail?? thought main dealer would ensure proper repair or is the tester being pedantic. was mot'd at a £25 while u wait place. Should i go elsewhere and see what happens? Going back to dealer 2mrw may ask em for free mot, prob pass it just to get me out and not do the work Read more

A slight noise has developed on the 5th gear of my Traffic, when a load is applied.

It is an audible whining sound, not too loud though.

Van has done 185K and has been well looked after by previous owners.

Should I be concerned?

Should I double check gearbox oil?

Should I put it down to character?

Should I just put it down - especially as there is a VW Transporter for 2K same year in the village?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

First 4 versions of the Golf were a commercial success so we have the Golf MkV. This car bears little resemblance to the Golf Mk1 other than its VW's model in that sector of the market.

The same could be said about the Toyota Corolla - the latest version being completely different to its predecessor.

On the other hand, had the last version of the Ford Escort been a commercial success would the Ford Focus have seen the light of day? The same could be said about the Fiat Uno/Punto, Cavalier/Vectra and many others.

We then have models named after previously successful models eg Mini, Rover 75 etc.

Obviously the decision to change, retain or re-introduce the model name is a marketing decision; but are the motoring public gullible enough to buy, or not, simply by the name on the boot?

Of course we are gullible, that is why the marketing people will change the names to 'suit'different markets or keep the same name for a product that is totally different from the one that it replaces.Remember, marketing people are very important and clever than we are.
