1993 Peugeot 306 - When turning right, sharply, (roundabouts usually) there is a noise coming from the nearside wheel area, sounds like the wheel arch. It\'s a kind of tapping/banging noise as I\'m turning. Any ideas what the problem could be? Read more

I have a V-reg 1.3 petrol space star which has had 1 previous owner.

The clutch pedal is very high and is for an hydraulic clutch and is therefore not adjustable. The gear lever is hard work. Could both "faults" be linked to previous owner "riding" the clutch and would a new clutch help?

xantmark

Hi all clio 1.4 rt when starting from cold idles at 15/ 20 rpm last couple of days idles at 30 rpm does anyone know what speed it should idle at on start up?.Always starts up first time and idles at 10/11rpm when warm havent touched anything in engine recently but changed air filter 3 weeks ago the change in idle speed only started a couple of days a ago car keeped in garage so not realy effected by the weather any advise would be great thanks Read more

Andrew Moorey (Tune-Up)

Hi
No quick answer I'm afraid as externally there is nothing to adjust. Check though that the throttle cable is not tight. May possibly be the coolant temp sensor failing, telling the ECU that the engine is cooler than it actually is particularly as the idle speed when warm is slightly too high- should be just below 1000 (10) not just above (10-11).
Need to call someone in.

Ford Dagenham

Hello all.

Wife's car (ford fiesta mk3) due to be booked in at AA service centre for brake service.

She needs new pads discs and braking fluid.

The parts they will be using are by a company called powertrain (i think).

What are there parts like in quality and service life as they sound cheap?

The price i was quoted was in the region of £150.

All ideas welcome.

Has anyone come across intermittant Yaris cold start problems - the car simply will not catch at all for a couple of hours - then fine - it catches first time. Read more

NormanB

Nope.

We have had a Yaris for 3 years and it has not faltered.

Normally whenever we buy a car, I buy a Haynes manual so that I have some clues should problems emerge. It appears Haynes are not going to produce one for the Yaris.

So my poor quality advice is - eliminate damp on the HT side as a cause and then get it into the dealer, there may well be a 'cold start compensator' on the fuel injection side and this may be playing up - shotgun diagnostics on the otherhand could be expensive and fruitless.

Is it not still under warranty?

Hope this is helpful - if only from a moral support perspective.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi, I have a coolant leak from a core plug, can anyone tell me if this is a DIY job for someone who is Not a Tech and best described as "Mediocre" at DIY?

Thanks

I had a leaky core plug on my old Cavalier which was right behind the exhaust manifiold, and impossible to replace without 1st removing the mainfold. I ended up fixing it with radweld. 3 yrs later it was still leaktight.

Question Audi A6 Key
dba

brought an audi a6 (1998) recently and it only has one key. a friend who had an A6 as a company car a few years ago gave me an old key he had (the flip up type). is it possible to take this to an audi dealer to be reprogrammed and have new key cut in.

i phoned up ages ago and they wanted £85 for a new key (inc reprogramming)which i thought was a little excesive.

your views would be appreciated Read more

Andrew Moorey (Tune-Up)

It is possible to programme in the system the key you have been given, but as you suggest you will have to buy and have cut a new blade. To be honest £85 is very reasonable, I dont think I would do it for that money! And to put it into perspective I replaced a lost key on my 97 Espace and even at trade money was close to £150.

My 2001 Scenic's alloys have bits of rust and bubbling on them. Any idea if I would be able to claim under rust warranty with Renault or will these be excluded? Car has done 24k. Read more

Marlot, I'm sure this is the only site where someone could actually point to some rusty aluminium!

SWMBO is about to embark on a 3 year nursing course. I have promised her that once she completes it and gets a job, she can buy a Beetle as she has always wanted one.

Yes I know there are better cars etc but when she says she wants a real Beetle to go with the 30 model ones she has, you will kind of get the picture that it is not up for discussion!

I am thinking that in 3 years time she will probably be looking at affording a 3 year old Beetle, ie one that is new just now. So I have obtained the current Beetle brochure (to keep for 3 years), and have checked HJ's review but is there any further advice from people on Beetles that I could keep until the purchase time comes? Any backroomers got one?

Also would this be the most patient, organised, thorough purchase of a car ever?? Three years researching! I could probably oder and receive a Morgan in that time! Read more

BobbyG I got no Beetle (Lynx n Virago only) but that's a lovely idea. Woman to woman I mean. She's a lucky one, me also. Take care, Growlette.
