Hi

I have been having real trouble with this from time to time.

At apparently random intervals the nearside rear brake will remain on with the handbrake lever in the car disengaged.

I have stripped and examined, replaced all springs etc and readjusted handbrake. But all to no avail - it keeps happening.
When it does I whip the wheel off and give the drum a tap with a persuader and it normally frees it up.

The drive to our house is on a slight incline - not sure if that has any influence.

Anyone with similar experience or advice on this one?

I've seen a couple of adverts for tyre pressure indicators recently. One type has a transducer inside the tyre and transmits the pressure reading and tyre wall temperature to the controller in the car. That seems quite a good system.

The second works via valve caps with a visible pressure indicator, cost about £15 per set of four. I can imagine losing all four very frequently. Has anyone else seen something I've missed regarding securing them? Read more

All clever stuff, but I read a test in a (motorbike!) magazine and the Halfords tyre pressure gauge came out very well, it's about £12? And while you're checking your tyre pressures you can also have a quick look at the treads and check for anything stuck in them or any bulges on the tyres. Not something a transducer can do!

I've seen the valve caps tested and they seem to work well, but as you say it's anyone's guess how long they'll stay there.

Have noticed that when cold, my car (which I bought yesterday, 16 months old / 17,000 miles) judders badly when releasing the clutch in 1st gear. Also, occasionally, when selecting 3rd gear (from 2nd) it feels, what I can only describe as \'crunchy\' (as though the clutch isn\'t engaged properly).

I am upset that i did not pick this up on the test drive - I can only assume the car was warn / hot and this made the difference.

Can anybody tell me what they think the problem may be, whether the two are connected and if it can be easily sorted?

Many thanks in advance

It sounds as if you have more than one problem there.I would take it back to where you bought it and get them to sort it
out as it is under warranty.

Anyone know what was the highest number of replies to a message and its subject.

Mine at present with 'New City Rover' stands I think at 133 replies.

Hi there, Can anyone help? I need the name and contact details of a reliable independent VW specialist in Bristol or the surrounding area to service a VW Polo. I've visited HonestJohn's Directory and drew a blank but just in case some of you haven't got around to posting your recommendations I thought I'd tap the forum's knowledge bank directly.

Thanks in anticipation.

I'm surprised no-one's mentioned Graham Batt Ltd on the Feeder Road about 5 mins walk from Temple Meads station. Just had my car done there - friendly, prompt, reasonable and well equipped. They've also been around for years - since the Seventies I think - and came on the recommendation of several VW owning friends. No connection etc...

I recently had two new front tyres (Pirelli P6000) fitted to my Focus. I am having problems with the steering wheel vibrating at 70mph. I took it back to get the wheels re-balanced and now it seems slightly better, but the problem remains.

Should I take it back to the same place again and try re-balancing them again, or should I try a different company and pay to get it done?

Thanks,

They are supposed to check other stuff around the wheel during the MOT. I once had a failure due to a split track rod end. If there is anyting wrong (which there doesn't appear to be in this case) then a good garage should notice.

Anybody had any experience of this?

patently

Lifeshine is a dealer-applied treatment for new cars. They treat virtually every surface (so far as I could see) and it takes about half a day per car. You also get a bag of Autoglym products RRP £40 at Halfords.

The initial finish on day 1 is a bit greasy and apt to pick up fingermarks - I got a bit paranoid about touching the door handle only, not the metal. I'm now on day 42 and it has settled down - the exterior looks superb, as if the polish has hardened up.

Mind you, it should look superb after only 42 days. The real question is what it looks after day 1000+....
