Dear all,

Odd sort of question, really. I live in a block of 10 flats, in a nice bit of Bromley. For our block, we have one parking space (although all flats have garages en bloc round the back), running lengthways beside the path up to the main door. The space is big enough for two small cars, if parked well, but usually accommodates just one.
I came home last week, and a car I didn't recognise was parked in the space, backed right to the end (so that another car could squeeze in). It may belong to a new resident, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't. Assuming it's dumped, what can we do (as it's private property)? It's an old E-plate BMW 3 series, sorry looking, but with tax til may. Any ideas would be helpful!

Many thanks,

Alex.

FC

Section as set out in Stones covers two specific areas of abandonment:

(1) Any land in the open air, or
(2) any land forming part of a Highway

Nothing shown as a definition of "land in open air" so one must take it as face value.

My 1993 8v 1.4 Astra has non power steering. I have a vague idea to use scrap parts to convert to power. Does anyone have any experience of this project?

From memory, (as my manual is in the boot of the car, in the car park)

Make sure ignition is switched on, hold down button AS and turn on the stereo. Wait for the beep, then release button AS. Display should now have 4 dashes ----. Enter correct code using the radio preset buttons 1 to 4. Once code is entered, press and hold down button AS again until code is either confirmed or denied. WARNING - you only have a max of 10 attempts to get it right, but if still no luck after the 8th attempt, STOP and contact a Vaux dealer.

I did it just the once.

I was doing a new car swap for a Franchise dealer. Our dealer needed a Vauxhall Bravo pickup and the other dealer needed an Astra.

Well, the Astra was petrol, so duly put the minimum £5 of petrol in to get me from Leicester to Derby, and drove said Astra to Derby.

Well, the Salseman who needed the Astra in Derby got so shirty with me for bringing him a car with a poor GM paint job on it, much to the amusement of the other staff there. Therefore I simply decided to treat him with complete contempt and switch off. I picked up the keys to the pickup and drove it out of the forecourt

I was still in "Do I really give a ****" mode when I pulled up outside a petrol station, now remember that when up until 10 minuits ago I had driven a petrol, so £5 petrol went in it.

....only I was now in a DIESEL!

Limped along to a garage and filled it to the brim with diesel, turned it over a few times and it ran fine!

Best bit? the pickup was not yet registered!

Just bought son a 98 Toyota Corolla auto 1.6 CD after much searching, in fact it was through this forum that we found it after seeing Fish for Cars mentioned as being an alternative to autotrader.
It is a one owner car with 38000 on the clock and full Toyota service history in good condition and spotless inside.
We had to travel 90 miles to Lloyds Motor Group of Carlisle to view the car and managed to get it for £3750.
Has anyone any tips on looking after it, i.e. is there anything he should pay particular attention to on this model.

Regards Mal.
PS was well impressed with the dealer even though we were only spending £3750 and wil give them a try next time we change. Read more

I read somewhere the Foam filters from such as I think Pipercross are better, because they are easier and cheaper to clean that the K&N although they are equal on performance.

As for Diesels they may offer some improvements for the non-turbo's being a negative pressure like the petrols, but not for the turbo'ed ones as the air is pumped into the engine, in a positive pressure.

I've had a '94 E36 318 from new. The only problem is that this model can suffer from 'hot clutch judder'. It takes the form of severe transmission juddering when the car's really hot and you slip the clutch - in 1st or reverse. You soon learn to time letting it out fully, quickly & smoothly without judder. A bit alarming when it happens if you don't get the timing right. It's to do with lack of asbestos in the clutchplate I'm told and even replacing the plate won't cure it for any length of time.
Apart from that it's been a great car, and is still on its original exhaust! Look also for wear on the right thigh panel on the driver's seat.

And a quote from the Government?
"The data is anonymised," a DfT spokesman told silicon.com. "No information made available from ITIS will make it possible to identity the vehicle or the person."

Yeah, right. Are we seeing the use of private transport (one of the great icons of freedom) about to be closely monitored?

pdc, they couldn't implement congestion charging in London and they still did, and what a fiasco, the consortium is bankrupt, taxpayers money is being used to keep it in operation as well as charges and fines.
What a joke with all these people getting tickets for 100 year old wheel barrows in barns... etc..
