Question Keihin - weber
Marto

Hi is it possible to replace the keihin with a weber
on audi 80 1.8 ?

I know a lot of guys do it for VW 1.8 etc but webcon don't do it,
in fact when I called they said they couldn't do it, just they couldn't say why.... can anyone unlock this mystery?

Engine code on my car is NE, have a haynes carb manual which says weber were fitted on an older VW 1.8, engine code NE.

Any help appreciated,
Thanks

Ah yes, I have done some more digging around with this,
there is no need to change the manifold, I just use the carb
flange for the pierburg carb (bolts straight on to existing manifold) and an adaptor plate supplied with Weber carb.
Now, I think bonnet clearance will be tight, has anyone done
this conversion successfully?

Thanks for any help ... Marto

In March 2003, we bought a Mazda Tribute (we preferred it to a RAV, an X-Trail or anything else we test drove although the Hyundai Santa Fe came a close second). To our amazement, we never see any Tributes on UK roads (spotted 1 or 2 in 4 months).
My point is : how come this powerful, very designed and well-specced SUV, and at a bargain price of £14,500 4 months ago is so unknown ?
It's very badly rated in What Car ? (only been in the UK since 2001 -so how come do they give it such poor marks for reliability ? -Mazdas are reckoned to be very reliable)
but why ?
Also, this car has never been advertised by Mazda, hence the massive reductions (£2,500) of 5 months ago. they must have sold only a few hundreds of them in the UK in the last 2 yrs.
Nobody seems to have heard of it or know it, etc.
Has anyone out there any explanations as to why is this ?
It's a total mystery to me. Get me out of my mystery ! Read more

Points taken, but why is it that after spending so much designing and making this car (presumably) they have not
bothered marketting it at all ?!!!

Someone reversed into me (yes the S-Class got squished already!) and admitted liability. Currently being sorted out. But will my premiun increase if I'm not at fault? I checked with NU Direct and they *said* it wouldn't.

Confused.

I was involved in an accident where my car was written off, the other driver admitted liability. My insurers recovered all the money (£5,000) from the other guy's insurance and payed for 5 weeks car hire (~£1,400) for me while I waited for the cheque and got myself a new motor. My premium is exactly the same now as what it was before the accident.

Don't know what all the fuss is about. OK, great engine & 'box, but, terrible (leather) seats, poor headlights, Oliver Reed drinking habbits, cramped accomodation, nervous steering, horrendous depreciation. After owning a Vauxhall Carlton Gsi3000 for 10 yrs, the BMW just left me cold!

Nitro,

I'll have a go with one of these GSIs, they sound fun. I used to have a 5 series and had a lot of respect for the chassis. The fuel on a 525 was pretty reasonable and the steering was good too - so maybe there are problems with this particular one?

Anyway, comfort wise I agree totally with you. The seats are very avarage. The interiors are often dull and good spec's and engines cost over the odds.

I don't have a BMW now, I have a C70. While not the last word in handling - it's fast, well spec'd and very comfortable. So yes, those seats got me in the end!

I've noticed that the BR has been getting a little 'heavy' lately so, in the intention of lightening the mood, I've started this thread.

How many of us out there still have only a radio/tapeplayer in the car rather than a CD/minidisc/mp3/wax cylinder player?

And if you do have a tape player, what mouldy, broken old tapes are languishing in the back of your glovebox?

For the record, I only have a tape player and I can muster the best of Paul McCartney, Tony Bennet Swings, The Three Tenors, Round the Horne Vol 2 and several home made ones including The Rocky Horror Show, Barry White, Robbie Williams' Swing When You're Winning and a 70;s compilation.

Christ - I'm only 29!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fair enough;

I've locked it, but I'll leave it here.

Is there any way of attaching a roof box to a car which does not have roof rails or 'gutters' in which, in the old days, the feet of a roof box frame could stand? It is a Mercedes that I am interested in but as many cars don't have rails and none have gutters the question has a broader application. Thanks in advance for comments or ideas. Read more

Thulle (swedish?) do a range of bars with feet 'tailored' to particular cars. They are not cheap but look good, and are very easy to fit and remove. They also have a locking kit available. You can get a smart silver aerodynamic pair. Halfords may well have their own equivalent, which usually look a bit more 'workmanlike'.

In case some of you are interested there is a site called friendster that allows you to make a network of friends that then by association all their friends become people in your network and so on. I thought it could be used as a backroom virtual bar :-) It allows you to message each other and arrange mutual events and expand your circle of friends all at the same time. I know some backroomers get together in the real world but as lots of us are spread far and wide it might be good to have somewhere we can all get to without much travelling!

I thought this was going to be a winner.

Just read a report, that its based on the SLK!& drives nothing like it looks.

£28,000 for a NEW,OLD car,? I don't think so.

So I'll carry on raving about the Rx8!!

As far as I'm aware, the SLK drives nothing like it looks, either, and more like an old C Class.

Having said that, roots in a 1993 mid size saloon are not ideal for a sports car introduced in 2003.
