Folks - A quick question looking for some realistic advice.

I want to buy a new car - I will be travelling on the road for my job and therefore want something comfortable, reliable and with a bit of kick but that won\'t break the bank.. Any suggestions?

So far I have been consider Golf TDI 1.9 or maybe a Renault Laguna?

I\'d appreciate your help!!!

The Superb in Ireland is about ?32k for the TDi 130 Comfort. And while I understand that the Focus has its detractors, I definitely rate it above a Golf and the 307 HDi's engine isn't known for its reliability at big miles.

Watching 'Traffic Cops' last night and the eagle eyed officer spotted someone driving using their mobile phone. They were not driving badly, carelessly or erraticly but he pulled the man over and said that he was issuing him with a fixed penaltly fine of £30 but not giving him any points.

Soon, it will be an offence to use a handheld but at the moment it isn't unless you are driving without due care and attention etc. Given this, how could the officer issue this ticket? I would have told him to stick it! The bloke just accepted it because he probably thought it was an offence.

Am I missing something here? It looks like a case of the law enforcement of non-existent laws!

I was watching a documentary a few months ago which was basically a camera crew riding with a Police Patrol Vehicle - can't remember what it was called but it doesn't really matter.

The Patrol Car was looking for drink drivers late at night on the outskirts of Nottingham. The Officer stopped a car because it swerved to avoid hitting the kerb - nothing unusual there.

The Officer approached the car and came back a minute or two later, grinned at his colleugue and said something like 'It's ok she was just lighting up a cigarette'. These might not have been the exact words but they are close enough.

I wondered why he let her get away with that. It seems to me to be equally as dangerous as using a mobile phone or drink driving come to that.

I saw a car parked in Central London yesterday with its rear number plate covered up and its front number plate right up against the wall of a building. The car was parked on a pavement type area. I have also seen mopeds parked with their rear number plates covered (often on pavements). I have heard that there is a ruse like this for not getting a parking ticket as parking wardens are not allowed to 'interfere' with vehicles, but surely all they need do is look at the tax disk (unless of course that has been cleverly obscured too!).

Any comments on this? And do people get away with it? Y Read more

Just buy a junk bike carrier from Halfords and hang a few mountain bikes on the back to really obscure the rear plate, and the lights but who cares about that?

> I have a '93 Nissan Primera 2.0 LXi, with a faulty driver's electric window. Two or three times it has gone down OK, but only come up after a lot of playing with the switch, so now I am afraid to use it! I have removed the door trim, and checked out the switch, the obvious suspect, but that appears to be OK. I don't want to replace the motor unit, without being certain that the fault does not lie somewhere else, so can anyone suggest a simple test that I might carry out?
As a point of interest; would this cause it to fail an MOT?

I had a problem with my Primera driver\'s electric window, in that it would go down but didn\'t come up. It turned out to be the window power amplifier, but my local Nissan dealer quoted £165 for a new one!! Google directed me to www.breakerlink.com and I filled in the form giving car & part details. The next morning my phone rang, and Bob from Bradgate Motors in Rotherham said \"They are £15 each. How many do you want?\". Three days later it arrived on my door mat.
What service!

On tonights programme the coppers book a guy for using a mobile phone whilst driving. Fair enough. But they also send out pursuit coppers on their own, and during the pursuit the driver is on the radio to base, both hand held radios and 'telephone' type.

Is it OK that they are allowed to do this, especially whilst on a high speed pursuit in an unmarked car, but any other driver proceeding at a more sedate rate, isn't? Read more

I thought the program said he was "acting Sergeant" for that night, so he was still a constable when interviewed later in the program.

Hi,

I have got a corsa round that is showing the error code 93 which shows up as the Quad Driver Module. Ive read around what I can of what this actually does - anybody have any experience of these going faulty (what the fault could be etc...) and the sort of expense involved in having it repaired/replaced??

Any comments of help appreciated.

Apologies for the delay in replying...

The corsa is an N registered 1400 16v. There are no other noticeable faults, and the engine management light does come on- im told about 5 minutes into the first drive of the day, but does not re-appear. The fault code displayed is 93.

Given the new regs around not being able to get road fund licence without the V5, I wonder how long before you are no longer able to sell/buy a car with tax ?

Mark, I guess I could make a V5, especially an old one (newer ones have the details also printed as a very clear 'background' watermark.
But I am lost with the idea of using a different address. How does that help me... can I do a change of address without the V5?
thanks.

Question Fuel Injection
todi777

Have a nissan pulsar with fuel injection. Seems when I start her in the morning and drive, it is fine. I turn it off and go do what I need to do and get back in the car, she won\'t start. Sounds like she is flooded. A friend told me to try to use a pair of vice grips to pinch the fuel line, go and start it, once she starts take the grips off. It has worked for me, but can\'t seem to figure what the problem is. I know I should probably take it to a shop and have it worked on, but if it is something that isn\'t major, thought maybe I could do it myself. Sounds to me like the fuel isn\'t shuting off when I turn the car off, or it keeps fuel in the lines or something like that. I can let it sit for a few hours and then she will start again. So can you give me some advise? Would appreciate anything you can say to help.

Thanks

It always starts but sometimes it will not run on its own. I need to blip the throttle to keep it running for (almost always) one to two seconds. Most times it starts without throttle and rise straight to 1000rpm.

It only does this around 1 in 50 starts and only when starting first thing in the morning and in extremely cold/wet weather.

I am interested in buying a 2004 Ford F150 Truck. I know that they are not available until September of this year. Does anyone know of any importers of new American cars into the UK? Read more

Sorry Sukey I'm in Asia. My guide price from Ford is around USD30k but that will depend on currency fluctuations and exchange rates when it shows up. Not much help to you! Lovely piece of kit, tho'.
