I think this may have been mentioned before, but, what do people on here find is the best product for protecting alloys from brake dust, and salt etc. during winter?
I use Wonder Wheels to clean them, and it does a great job, but doesn't offer any protection. As there are several products in Halfords and I'm too tight to buy them all and try them :) I was wondering if anyone else here has anything that they recommend particularly? Read more
I am looking to buy privately a KA.
I have test drove it and there is a knocking
sound that seems to come from the wheel.
The shock absorber seems fine. I am scared it might
be some parking/suspension damage that could be costly
to repair. The car is a late 97 with 55K on the clock.
Has anyone heard of faults like this or does this seem
like accident damage?

Forget it there are thousands of Ka's out there to buy at competitive prices. Just find another one.
I need a drivers handbook/instruction book for a 1997 or thereabouts Voyager.Any suggestions?The localish dealer not very helpful,nor the 3 US dealers that i e-mailed. Read more

Having finally bought the car of my dreams(Civic Aerodeck)I am very pleased with the car, but there is noise from the tyres-Pirelli P600's.
I've checked the relevant threads in the Backroom, but wondered if it could be specific to the Civic/P600 combination? It's quite noticeable on normal chipped surface, much quieter on very smooth, worn sections of the road.
Has anyone with a Civic and these tyres experienced this?
Many thanks,
P. Read more
Interested in this as I recently bought a late 2001 Civic 1.6SE Executive, which is very noisy - mostly from the tyres, it seems. TWO complete sets of floor mats helped, but still very disappointing. Where did the sound-deadening kit come from - and how easy to fit, pls?
(Re "I recently purchsed a Civic Aerodeck (x plate) and was disappointed with the level of quietness...")
I have a Rover 400 and I am very happy with it. However when I get out of the car, I hear a clanging sound on the passenger rear side wheel. It does it when I push down on it as well. I have tried the shock absorber test, and all is well.
Can anyone enlighten me? Read more
Sure no-one's trapped in the boot? Maybe very hungry & can't shout...................
Looks like the USA is about to legislate that petrol must contain at least 10% ethanol.
What is the EU/UK position on this? Read more
Personally I neither know nor care about ethanol being GM derived or not.
BUT it's not my opinion but the Greens/public ignornace that will/could make or the difference. And people have such entrenched (and quite rightly imo) scepticism of government assurances on anything, they may well refuse to accept GM derived fuel whether or not it can be proven it has no GM organic base left.. or not.
I need help here. 'Stupid' should probably be applied to me, but I can't work out why my brake light won't work. Its the offside one, my car's a K reg 309. Changed the bulb to find the original was fine. Fuse has to be fine as it looks after other items such as the stereo, which all work. Wiring on the light cluster looks ok and theres no corrosion where the bulb slots in. Any ideas? I need to fix it as I have a week to avoid prosecution for driving an unroadworthy car (gotta love the Welsh police, they must get very bored.) Read more
If you have a faulty earth then quite often the brake or side light will flash in time with the indicator or else if you have the sidelights on and apply the brakes then the sidelight will go out without the brake light coming on.
Check out that you have power coming to the brake light terminal on the cluster by using a meter or spare bulb in a holder, if not work backwards to the fuse (identify and check fuse first).
Use Mark's tip of rigging up a temporary earth.
If all that checks out it is probably a poor contact within the cluster.
There are some threads which would be better in the Technical Forum. If you think you have lost one, please check I haven't moved it there first.

Help - more information on normal functioning of climate control in Fiat Ulysee (identical system to Peugeot 806).
Should the climate control switch itself on to automatic every time the engine is started (regardless of whether or not the climate control unit was previously switched off)? Read more

Soory about that.... don't know what happened there !
Anyway I bought this mint condition bright yellow Corolla (auto) seduced by pefrect interior and bodywork. About 2 months later the front brake calipers sized up - very expensive !!! - and then all sorts of engine gremilns started occurring - I eventually sold the car for £350 to a guy wanting to ship it to Nigeria.
A bad case of shurt run syndrome I think.

I just use Halfords own brand in the blue plastic spray bottle. Works a treat. Don't know what it does to the lacquer, mind you and it certainly doesn't protect in any way.
