Mk2 Polo owners (and I know there are several in the Back Room) will appreciate this web site counter< /a>. Unfortunately the site itself is in Dutch, but I'm tempted to ask if I can use the counter on my own website.... Read more

Hiya,..

A bit off a late reaction maybe, but never mind..

I\'m the designer of this counter (and founder/maintainer of the website).. Nice to read it\'s noticed even outside the dutch part of the world..

Dunno really what this backroom is about (googled my way in here), so I\'ll sniff around abit..

the carterbeschermer topic is actually a sumb-guard thing: the original sumbgard (or better: drive-train-protection as the german engineers call it) by volkswagen fits all typ86 and 86c models..

Sorry I haven't responded for a while but I have been testing cars like a mad woman and I am still chasing that elusive car "comfortable car for small drivers". I have now had an ergomic test done and find that there are a number of features I need to look for e.g. tilting seat, adjustable lumber support, fully moveable steering wheel. Do any of you chaps/chapesses know of a site where you can put such requirements in and, hey presto, they give a list of cars which have these features? As ever, grateful for advice.
Many thanks.

Unfortunately, Trevor, it was first of all in a 60 mph limit.
Followed by 25 mph in a 30 mph limit.
I did not overtake because I was interested to see just what sort of person was capable of such inconsiderate behaviour in the evening rush-hour.

When I pulled alongside at traffic lights I found that it was a young female who was not only chatting to her passenger but was also in the process of eating an apple or a roll.

Driving round London this morning I came across a car parked on a single yellow with a wheel clamp. This got me thinking as to why the thing was put on - presumably because the car was illegally parked and causing an obstruction. So - if the car is clamped presumably it will stay there for about an hour until payment is made and the thing can get removed thus causing more obstruction than the illegal parking would most likely have ever caused. I can't see the point at all - just ticket the car or tow it away. Read more

As with all my posts: I just type in my thoughts and a perfect post is produced.

Pity is: in today's high speed world so few seem to have the time to actually read the written word, prefering to succumb to the slick soundbite!:-(

Question Belts vs Chains
terryb

All the recent talk in here has got me wondering - is there anywhere one can look to find out if an engine has a timing belt or a chain?

And on a personal level does anyone know if the 3.1 turbodiesel from VM (a la Jeep) has a belt or chain? Read more

Hi all,

Further to my post on Hastings Direct Insurance here, thought people might like an update.

I pay £542 a year for fully comp with them (lots, yes, but I've a knackered NCB). Just moving house, so call them to update the address.

£109.00, which considering there's 4 months left on the policy makes it (12/4=3*109) £327.00 per year extra equivalent.

Fair enough if I was moving to Mosside, Manchester, but I'm moving to a leafy part of County Durham that is rated lower in postcode terms than my current address by five on-line insurers - (AA, Directline, EagleStar, RAC & Morethan). Cancelling the policy will net me £54 quid, so I'm effectively stuffed and have been forced to cough up the readies.

I have recommended this lot before, but I now take this opportunity to withdraw that recommendation.

Would be interested to hear of anyone else's experiences with them.

Lee.

Excuse me Mr Oil Company Financial Controller, why is it that your company consistently makes an loss within the motoring segment, but continually shows a profit when all products produced from the same barrel of crude oil are taken into account?

I know you all are eager to know what happened!!

I took my Golf to the garage last night for them to
investigate the whining/whirring noise.
They took the alternator belt off to see if it was that,
but it wasn't. They checked the timing belt and
said it was the correct tension, they said it was.
They think it might be the water pump, but they need to
have it in to investigate. Which will probably be next Tuesday.

But driving to work this morning the coolant warning light
started to go off?!?!?

Doesn't it annoy you when you book your
car in for work and it still goes wrong!!!

Exactly my experience with my Golf GTI runabout shed. I have heard many cases of this, most of which are recognised as a problem by the owner before the belt snaps!

Ford offer a heated front screen on many of their cars. We have a Fiesta with this option and it is very useful for winter driving. Does anyone know if any other manufacturers offer a similar option? Thanks. Read more

I asked about one for the Audi but was told they did not fit them due to the wires being visable in certain conditions

OK, I know this is going to sound a typically female question but here we go!! A red warning light has come on in my Peugeot 405 and I have no idea what it is. I don't have the handbook so can't look it up. It is not the oil light and is over the other side on the right. It is 2 horizantal wobbly lines with what looks like a cap on top (as in a screw cap not a sports cap!!)

Any ideas anyone? Read more

Now...there are engineers and there are engineers...in the Royal Air Force (and probably elsewhere) to be an engineer, you ideally will have a degree. Knowledge of spanners, thread direction, overalls and the like is NOT necessary. Those of us who 'spanner' (or have in the past and managed to get away from the drip trays) are merely engineering technicians. So if you want a simple task doing quickly, you know who to call on!!!
