I have just had these changed on my Golf 1.6 95M Petrol.
When I got the car back from the garage I noticed
the engine was making a slight whining/whirring noise.
What would this be?
Should I take it back to the garage?? Read more
how is the rear suspension on your C5 ? Mine has had the kit fitted by the factory but still makes a lot of noise at low speed (25-40)..and the car sometimes jumps sideways which is alarming but seems harmless....I have approached the dealer who two weeks ago was waiting for news from Citroen and just said they were aware of the problem...but apart from lying on the ground and confirming the prescence of the "kit" has not actually test driven it......somewhere else on this site there is mention of a number of recalls on C5s but I haven't had a single one.....is this other people's experience??
While I'm on about it has anyone else got a computer that can't count? Mine goes from 23.6-23.8..23.0..24.2..24.6...24.8...24.0....25.2...etc..
Is there any way of opening the tailgate after rain without swamping the boot with water running off the window?? Read more
Hi,
Just got mine from factory/dealer. 14 days (ago)
No noise at low speed.
Is susceptible to high winds but does seem to hold the road well.
However, UK Citroen dealer did say that C5's had had 45 recalls since launch. HJ has a figure of 18 from a German contact (see his car by car breakdown). As I am fortunate and its new I have been told by dealer and HJ that all recalls are taken care of before the car left dealer.
I am still playing with computer and hadn't noticed it, Ill keep a look out.
Re last point, I don't know yet!
regards
Mark
A friend of mine wishes to sell her Ford Maverick, 70k, L reg, 2.4 petrol, 12 months MOT & 6 months tax. Well maintained etc.
What price can she expect if 1) she sells it privately or 2) as a P.ex.
Thanks in advance. Read more
Chad,
I can't speak for HJ and why he would say this but I always have advised a private buyer never to pay more than the trade-in price when buying from another private person.
Say a guy is buying replacement for £10K and gets a best trade-in offer of £4K. He will be so much better off if he sells the trade-in at exactly the px price or perhaps a little lower. Not only should he get a discount on the replacement but it makes him immune from the "trade-in" nonsense at the dealers....sorry sir silver cars never fetch top money, we can't sell a manual/auto, as a VW dealer we'd have to trade a Fiat straight out...you know the guff.
Also it gives the buyer a chance to get his replacement privately if he wants to, saving another wedge.
I have known folks who get this £4k trade-in offer then spend a couple of weeks trying to sell privately (and spending £40 on ads in the process) at £5K because "if the dealer offered £4K it *must* be worth £5K". They reluctantly cut the price in the second week to £4,750 but fail to sell and end up doing the trade-in after all at £4K.
If they had pitched the old car at £4,250 and let it go for anything over £3,800 they would have been better off.
There is a strange thing with the private buyer the trade knows well. Pitch the new car £1000 over the top and offer him a trade-in £500 up and he's happy. Reduce the new car by £1000 and drop the trade-in £500 and the chap wanders away *insulted* by the offer despite it actually being worth £500 more overall.

Here's something worth sharing.
I have just renewed the insurance on my MB E320 Coupé. For the past two years, Saga have won my business, after I had checked out at least six other sources on each occasion. This year the Saga renewal quote came through at a mere £12 higher than last year, which was surprising and pleasing. I almost signed up for it, but in conversation with my bro-in-law I discovered that his premium on his old Jag/Daimler V12 was astonishingly low. So I contacted his brokers and, lo and behold, their quote comes in at no less than £154.37 below Saga's, with the terms much the same apart from an extra £50 on the excess. Which broker? It's Specialist Car Division, PO Box 3203, Brentwood, Essex, CM14 4GG, telephone 01277 206911, fax 01277 206519.
No, I have no commercial connection with them. Yes, I'm delighted. Read more
I have had some very good quotes from Athena Insurance (broker), for an A class mercedes, and fiat brava (different drivers)

For my discovery, www.insure.co.uk was the best deal
Best to try as many as you can and take the cheapest!
Can anybody suggest a reliable workshop for the servicing of the a/c of a Mercedes car? Work needs probably "opening" the system, CFC and all that...
Workshop should be around Winchester, Hamps.

I had a quick and helpful response from many readers, for which I'm most grateful. Things are under control now.

I can't see OLDER MESSAGES if I am in COLLAPSE THREAD mode. Is this a permanent change as I presume it isn't my machine playing up? Read more
How about Martyn putting something in place of the threads when he deletes them, will that keep everything aligned?

Hi. anyone know how to mask off the xenon headlights on the c5 for driving on the right on the continent. There is nothing in the handbook and as far as I can see no alignment markings on the headlight itself. Citroen do a kit of sorts but it is expensive at £40 approx and not very practical either.

The thought occurs to me that since Citroen is French, they might not have adjusted the headlights at all in the UK model if it "conforms to specs".

Yeah, the difference between belts with round or square profile teeth!
