My wife's Scenic, just over 3 years old with 24k on the clock, the majority shortish journeys. Goes in for a service, with squeaky brakes - result new front disks and brakes down to 80%. Should they be safe for another year, or better safe than sorry and change them?? -
I had to smile ..... 27 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Following an old Nissan Almera this morning, I noticed a sticker on the bumper which proclaimed 'WATCH OUT - for the idiot behind me'. Mmmm...I wondered, what sort of driver would put that on their car - then when they braked, I saw they only had one brake light working. Question answered! -
Vectra Cruise Control 6 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Do any of the Auto Electricians out there know if the brake lights affect the working of the cruise control on a Vectra? My friends Vectras CC was not working, he noticed that a brake light had popped, he replaced it and lo and behold the CC now works. -
Any (old) drum brake equipped - Coke Can for Brake Drums 6 May 2017 (Forum)
Encouraged by the rave reviews for "Coke Can for Brake Disks", here's a sequel. Rusty brake drums don't seem to be as much of an issue / MOT inspection fail point as rusty disks, though they can make it difficult to get your wheels off. -
Corsa C 1.7dti - Brakes suddently went hard, until restart 27 Jan 2014 (Forum)
When I did, vacuum was back and all was well-ish again. I say well-ish as when I pumped the brakes there on the drive I could consume the vacuum after about 4-5 pumps, although it replenished very quickly. When I tried again after a run, I was unable to consume the vacuum, constant pumping made no different. -
Hyundai Getz - Park/ Brake light on dash 15 Jan 2013 (Forum)
My car failed its mot before I bought it ( performed by a second hand car sales) because of something to do with the brakes but they fixed it all up to pass worthy. About a month ago my park/ brake light on the dash kept randomly coming on so I took it in ( to the same place as I was under warranty) and they told me it was because of a switch to do with the handbrake. -
Peugeot 306 - Rear brake light/indicator earth fault? 12 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I have a Peugeot 306 (N Reg/ 1.9 Diesel) Recently it has developed a fault with the lighting. Everytime I brake the nearside indicators come on constant, and everytime I indicate left the brake lights flash! I have been advised that this is almost definitely an earth fault. However I have checked all the earths I can find (rear cluster in the 'c' pillar, under the rear seat near the seat belt mounts, and in the front wing, as well as what looks like a main earth in the engine compartment that comes straight off the battery.) -
Honda CR-V II (2002 - 2006) - Premature wear of brake discs 28 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I did tow a caravan but this was well within the weight range stipulated by Honda and it is regularly serviced. Whether the fact I towed made any contribution to the brake problem or whether there is an inherent problem I do not know. Similarly, whether the new model has had any improvements made to the brakes I do not know but potential purchasers need to be aware. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1999 1.9td meridian - unrecognised warning light 12 May 2008 (Forum)
hi quite recently i have found an odd warning light come on it seems to come on when i brake though wether it indicates a braking problem i cant say as my brakes still seem pretty responsive. the light comes on just above the temparature gauge and is a bright red i stil do not know what it is as it is an odd shape that i cant describe and it will only flash up momentarily so i cant get the detail either but it is a good size, when driving the car it all seems fine nothing out of the ordinary. although service is overdue by about 4 months. i would greatly appreciate any help with this knowing next to nothing about cars. i have checked the brake fluid oil, water levels etc and all are fine. thanks in advance for any help with this matter the car is a 99 T plate and has about 115000 on clock radiator was replaced at about 98k and temp seems to be fine. -
SEAT Ibiza II (1993 - 1999) - 97 Car pulls right on acceleration left on braking 2 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I was planing on new springs and shocks but for sometime now the car steering wheel pulls to the right when i accelerate hard and left when i brake (hard). I just had springs shocks replaced as i was planning and the shop told me the car checks out steering column, brakes f/r bars etc all is ok. I took the car to an other shop and explained the situation and when they checked it they said they couldnt find anything wrong with it. -
Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 03 1.8 petrol; brake discs and pads 2 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Was gonna have it done locally but after having the car serviced at erm... a well known independent garage and them greasing but not tightening a loose drivers door hinge, I have lost confidence and the main dealers charge too much. I know that you have to be careful not to damage the brake fluid pipes on the callipers and that you need to be careful that the fluid doesn't overflow when you put new pads in and that you have to pump the brake after each side. Have watched someone do it on other cars in the past but im scared something will go wrong.
