VW Golf - Petrol Problems 20 Feb 2011 (Forum)
In 45 years of buying petrol i've never had occasion to think a petrol pump had overstated the quantity dispensed. Has anyone else had the same problem & what would be the best way to follow it up? Thanks in anticipation of any advice. -
Fuel consumption - super unleaded 27 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Morning, This may be a very stupid question but is there any difference in fuel consumption between super unleaded and regular unleaded? When the company paid for petrol I used super (and noticed a discernible improvement in performance) but now I'm paying for it myself I'm using the cheapest (non supermarket) stuff. Thanks in advance for replies. Jon -
Yaris D-4D 28 Jul 2002 (Forum)
After much soul searching over the last six months I have finally decided on the Yaris D-4D(PAS) to replace my ailing 12 year old Metro. Some while back the 'Right Car - Wrong Car' programme managed to obtain a GS Yaris (petrol) for a guy at the knock down price of £6k. Some 2k off! (at a car supermarket) Since then I have been all round the houses looking for a good deal. It occurs to me that these supermarkets are not offering base models of the Yaris and also the D-4D seems to be a bit of a rarity to trace at a comparable knock down price - £7.9k seems to be the cheapest price on offer. -
Fuel Additives 19 Apr 2001 (Forum)
Waste of money or useful for a car that does mostly town work and has lived on Supermarket Petrol for the past 2 years? I have over the last month switched to Shell after reading advice on these pages but I wondered if any of these products would help as well with the rough running from cold we are suffering on our 94 20i Astra? -

All - Cost of bulbs 16 Aug 2016 (Forum)
Why to a national high street chain (H) 2 bulbs £6 I thought that's expensive and didn't buy then. Went to local supermarket filling station shop £2 for 2. That's £4 mark up on the petrol station price. I escaped a good fleecing there I think! -
Beer price in pubs 8 Jun 2018 (Forum)
The pub in question is brewery owned and selling its own brewed beers and lagers, so I’m not talking about a pub company which in itself has to buy at brewery prices. It seems to me this is the equivalent of buying bulk petrol from a petrol station at say £6 a gallon and then being able to buy a “ packaged” gallon container of petrol from a supermarket for say £3, -
Ford Focus III (2008 - ) - Focus 1.6 TDCi or 1.8 TDCi 27 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Well Mrs FC is ready for a change she has a 05 petrol Focus 2 Zetec Climate. We are looking to source through Ford Direct again. I fancy the Focus 3 Titanium Estate in Tango Orange! Greys and blues seem to show those supermarket scratches. Ford Direct seem to have mostly Titanium 1.8 TDCi's and 2.0 petrols, few 1.6 diesels or petrols. -
New(ish) Petrol 7 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Currently I travel a little further to fill up on Optimax but would be grateful of advice if anyone knows anything. Please do not give advice on: all fuels are the same and I should just use supermarket petrol - you will sound like my father-in-law - and he only half fills his car because a full tank weighs more and reduces his fuel consumption !!!! -

Enraged Older Driver 13 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Thugs took off with groceries in their stolen car. Enraged gentleman followed and rammed them, but not sufficiently to stop them. He stopped at a petrol station to call the police, and then saw thugs at another supermarket carpark, so Gentleman rammed them from the other side, rendering thugs' car undriveable. Thugs fled on foot, but were rounded up forthwith by police dogs, and are now in custody. -

Any - Fuel prices 30 Aug 2023 (Forum)
Anyone else noticed petrol and diesel prices creeping up recently? It’s being blamed in distribution issues caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, despite the fact that we haven’t imported any from Russia this year. And supermarkets holding onto a greater margin on fuel sales. -

Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - Petrol V Diesel 30 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Hi everyone, First of all best of seasons greetings, been looking at Grand Scenic from a well known car supermarket, year old petrol dynamic 7 seater for £7700, low mileage. Been reading the forum on the diesel French engines, and basically been put off any modern common rail engine, and poor dealer knowledge on these if they go wrong.
