Ford Fiesta - Trafffic accident - how can I get just outcome? 13 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Out of nowhere an oncoming car travelling at high speed struck my drivers-side wing with his front drivers side corner. I had no time to see him and react, so could not brake. The first I knew was the airbag in my face and my car juddering to a halt, as it spun to the side of the road. Whilst the road doesn’t have a white dividing line, it’s plenty wide enough for 2 cars – or even larger vehicles. -
Mercedes C220 cdi Coupe - Bought 2nd hand car with "valid MOT" "Drives like new" - LIES!! 21 Jun 2010 (Forum)
He also noticed the rear tyres have been turned around so that they look healthy, but the insides (which was the outsides) are near bald!! Finally the brake pads and disc are so worn that again it would have been an MOT fail. I have gone back to the seller with this news and he claims that when he got the car he took the MOT as gospel... however, he has ended up selling me a car that is currently unroadworthy!! -
Economical reliable commuting diesel, help please! 26 Oct 2009 (Forum)
It is the "elite" model with leather trim, climate etc, has brand new MOT and 6 mths tax, and is pretty clean and tidy inside and out. On the downside, the rear brake discs need changed (just done the fronts), the air-con fan is squealing, and the service history can best be described as "partial" (20k, 40k, 55k, 100k, 120k, 135k, not main dealer). It's had timing belt, radiator and EGR valve all replaced this year. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 99 1.6 Engine Warning Light & Car Judders 28 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I pulled in thinking it might correct itself but it didn't. After calling for some help we noticed that it was also juddering while idle (out of gear, hand brake on) and under the bonnet the engine was physically rocking back and forward. Managed to drag it back home 20miles and stopped driving it until a friend could take a look. They did the following day, only for the problem to have disapeered. -
Vauxhall Combo van (2002 - ) - 05 1.3 Help! engine failure @ 51,000 miles 17 Jul 2009 (Forum)
He recommended taking it to the main dealers cathryns in ashford after checking the priming pump pressure at 2 bar and the manifold pressure at 90bar. Once arriving at the vauxhall dealers in ashford [after the breakdown van towing my hits the brakes to hard causes the torsion bar to pivot and crashing into the back of him!] They have it on the diagnostics and say that some sensors are out but suspect timing chain fault. I authorise them to inspect further and they say that the timing chain is out and that they now suspect the piston and valves have hit but want 3 hour labour @83 pounds an hour just to confirm the failure. -
Pedestrians - annoying the traffic 24 May 2009 (Forum)
He then dallied back across the road , again oblivious as to traffic and causing a driver to slam on his brakes (the man walked in front of his car) - to which he responded by pressing his body against the car and bringing his fist down as if to smash the window (which he did not actually do). He did not appear to be drunk (not really the time of day for it), and his companions seemed utterly indifferent to his behaviour. -
Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - Questions on purchasing a Vectra (possibly). 18 May 2009 (Forum)
s the reason for using this system as apposed to the traditional way of operating electrics I have never had to take my Astra to get its fault codes read, would the Vectra, with it being a lot more complicated going to throw error codes every ten min, or are they generally reliable I have been reading about parking brakes releasing, is this a common problem that Im likely to experience, as I don?t want to shell out a lot of money to have my car roll into someone?s house or something. I have been through this forum and found a few topics on where the Dashboards on Vectra? -
Suzuki Alto (2009 - ) - Test drove it today 14 Mar 2009 (Forum)
For someone who covers only 5-6000 miles per year and doesn't need lots of space, this sort of car makes sense (without needing to pay the premium for the IQ and having less room). I was impressed with how quiet the engine was at idle, and the brakes were strong with a very nicely weighted pedal. They've saved money on the dash plastics, but at this end of the market you can live with this. The i10 is of course its natural rival, and arguably offers more kit for the money. -
My new Ford Focus CC3 11 Mar 2009 (Forum)
The car drives much like an ordinary Focus - very well - although some uneven road surfaces provoke what I'm fairly sure is mild scuttle shake, but since my scuttle has never previously been shaken, I can't be certain. Brakes are an improvement on my old Focus, and the two-litre diesel is quieter and has more go than the 1.8 I had in the last car. The extra weight of the roof makes the car feel better balanced and even with that weight it's doing 40mpg. -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 2002 1.6 16v Ticking noise, EML, poor starting etc 10 Jun 2008 (Forum)
ive read the autodata info on the change seems quite straightforward, the only mention of a special tool is to lock the flywheel to loosen the crank pulley bolt but i believe this can be done the old fashioned way by putting it in gear and holding the brakes on. cheers chris -

Paint work warranty - worth nothing! 16 Jul 2007 (Forum)
What can I do? Renault only seem to address "safety issues" (their excuse for refusing to fix our squeaky brakes) with faulty cars - but anything that makes me want to strangle the dealer, has to be a safety issue!! (And I'm a laid back, placid guy!) Would it be worth getting the paint work done at a local body repair centre, and persuing a small claims court action against Renault UK for the cost? -
M reg 1.4 Clio high fuel consumption 15 Apr 2007 (Forum)
now i had my mum myself my push bike in the car plus clothes but nothing adding up to more than 4 adult passangers. i run the tyres at a higher pressure on long motor way drives. we drove at around 70 mph the whole way and had a clear run no substantial stationary traffic luckily. we averaged around 55-60 mph. in the last year the car has had 4 new tyres, balance and tracking, a new cam belt, two new half shafts as there is a wobble which i can't work out what it is relates to the speedo, when i first got the car i replaced all disks pads shoes, filters, ht leads, it doesnt seem to be a binding brake. The car is serviced regularly with oil change at least every 5k miles. My question is what could cause such a large drop in fuel economy. i am losing nearly 100miles per tank? Any possibility for the wobble, i gave up on the garage, which came highly recommended. -
My wife is car hunting alone! 15 Jan 2007 (Forum)
t much of an issue as we will do low mileage so by the time we get rid the mileage will be in line with what is expected after 3 or 4 years. Tyres, brakes and bodywork will get a close inspection and we expect a lengthy test drive. She is looking for as near as £6,000 as possible. Parkers for the same car with 10,000 miles and no aircon is £6495. -
Prius v. diesel Verso 12 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Silly spoiler and steeply-raked rear window makes rear vision difficult. Nasty foot-operated parking brake. Verso - More lively than the Prius: automatic available only with the petrol version. Diesel engine quite subdued, much quieter than the B-class (faint praise!). 6-speed gearbox (excellent dash-mounted gearlever) so very good on motorways. -
Motorway behaviour... 31 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Usually some some plonker (or "little shunt" as they were called recently) in some microscopic japanese go faster thing. Why would you tailgate a Landcruiser ? You'r e not going to intimidate me and if I do hit the brakes you're not going to do me much damage either. Although I'll be picking bits of your car out of the tyre treads for weeks. If I am in the Galaxy the world seems ambivalent towards me. It doesn't try to hold me up, it doesn't try to get me out of the way, it jjust seems to accept me. -
DIY - Is it required? 16 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I have never seen a TV programme on car maintenance and my father wouldn't have had a clue what torque was; although he was adept at decokes, ignition timing and renewing linings on brake shoes and clutch plates. I did the majority of work on my early bikes and cars, but they were relatively uncomplicated. The last car I worked on was daughter's old Beetle when she was at university - and I recently discovered my old set of feeler gauges, which along with my slide rule, must qualify as my most redundant equipment! -

Road rage - advice please 15 Aug 2003 (Forum)
He must have dropped a gear as he then did a high speed overtake (residential 30 mph zone) followed by slamming on his brakes forcing me to stop. He then got out of his car, swearing, and gesturing menacingly, and then started towards me. I checked my rear view mirror, turned on my hazard warning lights and then reversed as fast as I safely could to get the hell out of there.
