The manufacturer has revealed the model produced 84.32 mpg during the ALD Automotive/Total Excellium MPG Marathon - within 0.3 mpg of the most fuel-efficient car in the competition. According to Citroen this means one tank of petrol would be enough to take the vehicle 633 miles - or from Plymouth to Aberdeen. The car has carbon emissions of 109 g/km and also qualifies for low cost group one insurance, the manufacturer pointed out. -

At last VW is ditching the ancient 115bhp 8 valve 2.0 litre engine in the Passat, and replacing it by the 130bhp 20v 2.0 litre as used in the new Audi A4. The 0-60 comes down from 10.9 seconds to 9.6 seconds, top speed goes up from 124mph to 130mph, fuel economy improves from 32.8 mpg to 34.9 mpg on the combined cycle, and CO2 emissions are down from 206g/km to 194g/km. The price for the S spec with standard air-conditioning goes up by £155 to a still very reasonable £14,850, but because CO2 emissions are down company car drivers will actually pay less BIK tax than for the old car.

The same fault applies to the Space Runner although a further check is required to see if a valve on the upper side of the tank has been damaged if the tank has come loose from its mounting.

The 1.8 16v offers a combined fuel consumption figure of 36.7mpg and emits 180g/km C02; the 80bhp dti has a combined consumption of 51.5mpg and emits 145g/km CO2; while the 105bhp dCi offers 54.3mpg combined with 139g/km C02. Megane trim levels for 2001 undergo some complicated changes and the entry model 95bhp 1.4 16v Authentique will be priced at £10,300, which is £1,600 less than the previous Megane 1.4 8v.
