FIAT Panda (2003 - ) - Panda ECO models 11 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I am confused over these changes and am not sure whether to stick with the standard model (132 CO2?). The dealer is understandably unhelpful. (1) will the grip/handling/ride/braking be affected in any way with the low resistance tyres (I don't think the Panda's levels of grip are especially high anyway)? (2) what happens if, later in life, standard oil and "normal" tyres are fitted (if they can be) - and how do the DVLC know that it is no longer a 119 CO2 car? -
well done lady texter! 22 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Imagine, A12 London bound, 65mph decent car lengths behind Green Jag' X type. Nothing in front of Jag' outside lane. Brake lights come on, I ease off and for some reason now down to 45mph in o/s lane. I pull to inside lane and draw along side Jag' to see blond lady, mid 30's driving, male as pax, young child in back seat. -
Nissan Patrol (1992 - ) - 96 4.2 disc skimming 17 Jun 2008 (Forum)
This particular 1996 4.2 petrol / LPG Nissan Patrol Auto had grinding brakes . Garage took the rear wheels off and discovered deeply scored discs ( the fronts were replaced by a different garage about 8 months ago ). This vehicle is a 3rd car and does about 3000 miles annually . -
Austin (Rover) Mini (1972 - 2001) - 1991 1.3i Lights have gone out... 23 May 2008 (Forum)
Headlamps and instrument lights were working OK; I used the full beam switch, and (almost) all the lights died. Still working: brake lights, indicators (including via the hazard switch); reversing light, horn, ventilation fan, interior ceiling light. Engine still starts and runs fine; alarm circuit seems unaffected. Not working: instrument lights, sidelights, headlamps, rear foglamp, front spots. -
Volkswagen Eos Coupe Cabrio (2006 - ) - 07 2.0 VW DSG am I wearing the clutch out ? 21 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Will the roof keep working .............. but that's not what I'm posting about. :-) 2. In stationary traffic I need to keep my foot on the brake to prevent creeping. I'm aware that the clutch is a "wet" one that works in the gearbox oil, so is the creep caused by the drag of the oil film between the plates, or have VW arranged for it to be biting a bit to simulate creep on a torque convertor auto? -

Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - VW Main Dealer Con trick ( on no not another one ) 11 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Brother has a Golf IV TDI He has VW extended warranty, all ok so far, but they told his wife when she was collecting the car after service, that they recommend replacing the front discs, due to corrosion on the outside edge, NOT the braking surface, the edges ! because " it wont dissipate the heat properly and it could be dangerous" I think its nonsense, they are taking the SNIP as they can't charge for the many other things it needed but were done under the warranty, they also said the pads were 90% worn, but they were in fact replaced last April, and car only done 5000 miles since. but not at VW garage, so their computer suggests they need doing. -
FIAT Panda (2003 - ) - 2006 1243cc OBD code readers 23 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Had the first year warranty done, which was a visual check and an oil change, was a bit expensive for really no work. I'm reasonably handy DIY and can change oil, plugs, filters, brakes etc, as such I intend doing my own service every 6 months. I will need something to reset the service indicator light, EBAY has lots of tools like this U581 code reader which claims to work on FIAT digital CAN systems and can reset faults and read fault codes. -
Undertaking or Going with the Traffic flow 16 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I was pulled over this morning on the A14 after travelling on the inside lane at a modest 60 mph miniding my own business, with the usual accelerate/brake queue in the outside lane. I was advised by the rather Mr Grumpy PC, who was in said lane, that I was committing an offence by undertaking the cars in the outside lane. I tried to point out that I was merely staying with the flow of traffice in my lane, but as he repeated again 'That I was committing an offence,' I decided that an apology for my behaviour was the better route rather then argue the toss. -
Audi A4 (1995 - 2000) - (1998 2.5TDI) - 2 electrical faults 14 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Has anyone got any ideas on these - the first is the brake light bulb warning light is on most of the time although occasionally it decides to go off and on many times with bleeper for a week or so before settling down again to being on all the time. Long standing problem - I've replaced all the bulbs, brightened up all the contacts, the lights and the LCD on the rear window all work normally. -
Making an offer on a scooter (Kymco) 1 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Since the scooter has been in the showroom for one year +, should the engine oil, gear oil, coolant and brake fluid be changed as it may have deteriorated within this time. 3. The scooter was taken in and out of the showroom to view it outside. The mirror caught on the door and has a scratch. How much do these mirrors cost to replace, and should I use this as a bargaining point? -
'93 Polo 1.0 - Hesitation under throttle 28 Jun 2007 (Forum)
This is what I have tried: New Cat, Lambda Sensor, New Oil Filter (and Oil Change), Air Filter, Petrol Filter, New Spark Plugs and Leads, New Distributor Cap, and I have put Wynns Injector Cleaner in my Petrol. I've also had other things replaced recently (which shouldn't affect this problem) such as Brake Pads, Discs, New handbrake cable and a whole new exhaust pipe. Can't think of what else to try. so your ideas would be appeciated! Many thanks, Matt slight change to subject line to make it easier to identify model ans fuel. - PU -

Tesla Motors electric car 0-60 in 4 sec! 7 May 2007 (Forum)
I find this interesting and thought some of you would, too. It's the Tesla Motors new sports car. A straight electric with regenerative braking and a 250hp motor, I think it heralds the way of the near future because of its simplicity compared to hybrids. I think new rechargeable battery development encouraged by the needs of laptop computers is the key. -
Seicento - mistake? 24 Apr 2007 (Forum)
One thing I noticed - the gas pedal was sitting very high - is this normal or is it adjustable as it was arkward coming back onto the gas after braking? I did think I could put some thick mats in the footwell to bring my feet higher up so no need to lift my foot up to drive, but wondering if this is just 'character'? Anyone got any real world economy figures? -
Does Mk3 1.6 Golf have a pierberg carb? 21 Apr 2007 (Forum)
No history, so probably wants a cambelt & water pump, is the screen price of £2.4 too high assuming I could knock off £200/£300 to allow for the cambelt change and sundry brake work? ---------------------------------------------- One mans junk is another mans treasure -
Clunky suspension Audi 80 3 Jan 2007 (Forum)
m going to take both wheels off this weekend and have a look and check for any looseness within the strut and drive shafts. Also get a vibrating when on motorway and braking at motorway speeds, new discs and pads, new tyres and balancing made no difference. Also taking up drive in gear is bit clunky and setting off. Car is driveable and just want to be prepared if any work is needed. -
Citroen Saxo 20 Dec 2006 (Forum)

HELP !! Audi A4 V6 idle problem 11 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Hello All, Got a little problem with my 97 A4 2.4 V6, when cold the engine etc is fine and smooth but after a minute of driving the engine idle bounces for a while and sometimes stalls when using the steering and brakes at low speeds. It is like it is trying to find the correct idle speed but takes a while doing it. Also noticed a slight judder at around 70 mph, performance seems unaffected though. First port of call ( and cheapest ) was to use the free VAG com software to look for engine error codes but I found none. -
Nightmare Altea 17 Jul 2006 (Forum)
This version of safe mode doesn't let you do 40 mph or anything near that, it maintains idle speed which is enough to ensure that brake and steering assistance is not lost. Despite 8 visits to the dealer and many different parts replaced the car has continued to fail and we estimate that we have had to make 15 emergency hard shoulder visits in the last year.
