Irritating beep if you exceed the speed limit. Don't need or want it. Never got close to anything to trigger AE braking but it did briefly beep as a bin liner blew across in front of me, didn't actually brake as the 'obstacle' cleared. Dash display persistently telling me to change up (no doubt programmed to meet claimed emissions/mpg) I have driven dozens of cars, vans and forklift trucks over the last 60 - odd years, this feature really gets on my nerves because this 1.0 turbo engine feels gutless until the turbo kicks in, so in urban driving feels less flexible than my 1.4 n/a unit. -
Hyundai Kona - Mild Hybrid Wierdness 13 Nov 2023 (Forum)
Some of its "start stop" logic was rather illogical too - for example if the engine had gone off as described above, it seemed to always restart if you pressed either brake or clutch pedal. In reality when driving this as you would in a normal manual, this meant that the engine was idling at the vast majority of traffic lights instead of being off. The only way to get the engine to stay off at traffic lights seemed to be to knock the car into neutral while the engine was still running, re-engage the clutch and coast in neutral when applying the brakes. -
Honda Civic 2009 - Wheel alignment (tracking) - am I going mad? 27 Oct 2020 (Forum)
It’s almost like it takes a while after the fix, for everything to slot into its rightful place. 4. The guys checked the brake discs, which are apparently a bit corroded on the lip. Am I right this wouldn’t be relevant to the steering being heavy at low speeds? I think the brakes would cause a different symptom like shaking in the steering wheel, which I haven’t got. -
Nissan Xtrail 2017 - Ex rental purchase 27 Jul 2018 (Forum)
I suppose as long as it’s still under warranty it will be ok, brakes are classed as general wear and tear, which is the main reason I have not chased that up. I just wondered had anyone experienced similar issues, I know I’ve probably got to just suck it up and put it down to experience but it does bother me a lot they knowingly held back information. -
N/A - Speed camera idiocy 27 Oct 2015 (Forum)
The Kia brakes hard to 50 mph. I am speechless. Assuming this was not an act of malice, how much (or little) ignorance does it take to do something so utterly stupid and dangerous? Immediately after, the Kia disappears at speed, the driver probably blissfully unaware of how close to death several people have just been. -
Vw pôlo 2004 5 door 1.2 3 cylinder E engine - Advice on cylinder head 14 Apr 2015 (Forum)
My issue is that I'm not sure whether it's worth me spending this sort of money on my car or whether I should ditch it as I'm afraid the car may have reached the age where many things will start to fail. I've never had a new exhaust or brakes pads or brake discs or coils nothing really anything other than normal servicing things. Two garages I have spoken to won't touch it which worries me they say they are too busy and the other garage that I have spoken to about doing the work think that I shouldn't scrap my car as I should be able to get another 100k out of it once it's fixed but obviously they are biased. -
Ford Focus 1.6 Elle (02 Plate) - Is this Ford Focus 02 worth it? 30 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Issues with the car: - Cambelt needs replacing - Occasionally revs at 2000-4000 rpm when it should be ideling - Windscreen wiper gets stuck on single wipe mode (motor needs replacing) - Wing mirror is loose and damaged on one side so that needs fixing - There may be a power steering leak as the reservoir was empty MOT advisories: - Exhaust back box has minor hole causing exhaust fumes to leak - Brake pipes slightly corroded - Brake discs are worn but not severely - Bushes are worn but no excessive movement The owner seemed very genuine but lacked knowledge. The car has not been serviced for 3 years which also worries me. -

VW - Intermittent Throttle problem - Main Dealer Servic 12 Jun 2013 (Forum)
The white tip of the plunger is 3 or 4 times longer than the new one. This appears to have the affect and of cutting off the accelerator as if you were actually braking. I find it extremely suspicious that it occurred after the service at the main dealer but can't prove anything. They have said it must have just gone faulty. Hopefully this thread maybe useful to others. -
Mazda 5 Furano 2.0 Petrol - ABS Brake Pump 19 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Despite loving this car (it's my wifes) I am now rather angry at the ongoing costs of running the vehicle - so much so that I will not be buying another... -
Zafira B - Intermittent whistling noise on Zafira B 11 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I've had the car back at the dealers and they claim to have done a full diagnostic and conlcuded that the front brake plates were rubbing against disks. They claim that they have adjusted these which should have sorted the problem. They also said the pulling to the left was a different issue and that i needed the tracking adjusting which they also claim to have done (at a cost of 35.00). -
Ford Fiesta 1998 - Fiesta Handbrake Efficiency 15 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Hi all, I have a 1998 Mk4 Ford Fiesta but have been having some trouble with handbrake efficiency. Sorry it's a long story! My MOT was due and the rear brakes were getting worn so my girlfriend's dad fitted new rear brake shoes, new pistons, a new handbrake cable and adjusted everything as best he could. Took it for it's MOT last month and it failed on handbrake efficiency, the reason the garage gave was "you fitted a non-genuine handbrake cable, it's too short which affects handbrake efficiency". -
Ford Mondeo IV (2007 - ) - Booking a service, do I take the "extras"? 15 Feb 2010 (Forum)
http://tinyurl.com/ycn7pwy Looks like the service is £175 (I am assuming that the first 12 month service is an interim service), but on the form there are 4 items that they claim are "Ford recommendations", specifically: * Air con treatment * Pollen filter replacement * Oil-top up * Brake fluid change Elsewhere on the page there are prices for the pollen filter (£39.99), the air con treatment (£29.99) and the brake fluid change (£55). There is no indication of a price for the oil top up. -
Peugeot 206 hatchback (1998 - 2006) - 04 1.4 Engine losing power 21 Dec 2009 (Forum)
No warning lights come on, and people in the car can't notice it it's so slight. It feels like engine braking to me, but has not caused any major problems. However on the way to work on Friday, it had a major hiccup! I was doing about 45 up a slight hill in 4th, when again I got this feeling like engine braking. -
Old man with a mission, but no hat 24 Oct 2009 (Forum)
When we went through a village with a 40 limit, he drove at 30. In a 30 limit he went at 20. On the rare occasions he touched 45, he braked whenever a car passed coming the other way. When we finally got to a derestricted section where he/we could go faster, he slowly accelerated up to about 45, so I pulled out to overtake. He waited until I was alongside, and then suddenly put his foot down. -
Honda Accord UK (2003 - 2008) - Honda Accord 2.4i EX Auto driving experiences 10 May 2009 (Forum)
The suspension is too harsh for most of the time and makes urban driving, which is what I do mostly, knackering 2. I've never been able to get used to the brakes, they always feel as though there's not enough resistance in them which sometimes leads to them feeling very on or off at low speeds (i.e. its hard to brake progressively). I've had this checked by the dealer who insists that they are within specification 3. -
Vauxhall Astra G Diesel (1998 - 2004) - 04 1.7 DTi Lack of power and PAS problem 28 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Secondly just today the power steering seems slightly heavier than usual, and doesn't kick in until a 5-10 seconds after starting. Lastly, when I step hard on the brakes there is a grinding sound and feeling. Have had both wheels off and the brake pads are fine (they also sailed through an MOT). What could this be? Any help will be hugely appreciated Minski PS Just quickly do you need to replace the whole unit if the mirror gets smashed?
