  i have a mg zs 2003 and when i turn left or brake hard and turn left i get a creaking sound coming from the drivers footwell it dont do it when i am pulling away, what could this be? thanks for any help

  How do i tell when a clutch is worn....the peddle needs to be quite high befor the clutch engages, but htere seems to be no slip when moving away with the parking brake on...(during testing!!) What else can i do to test? Thx

  Basically, different cars have differing "brake pedal feelings", some feel soft and squishy, with plenty of travel. Others have little travel and are quite firm, sometimes even sharp. Personally, I prefer the softer approach, as it's easier to drive smoothly.

  Hi when I apply footbrake I get a single knock noise each time I apply it sounds as if it is coming from the front offside brakes? any ideas. I had the pads and discs changed about 5 months ago.

  There was an article in H.J`s column in last Saturday`s Telegraph re the need for different length wheel bolts to fit a spacesaver wheel on M. Benz to avoid hub/brake damage. Does anyone know if this problem is unique to Mercedes or are other marques equally affected.??????

  Am looking at a June 2000 Xsara Hdi SX for a second car. Nice car, well euipped and quite fast. Owner doesn't know if its a 90 or a 110. It has disc brakes all round. How can I tell?

  I am leaving my Corolla for a couple of weeks parked. Last time I did this, the front brakes nearly seized due to corrossion on the front disc (it had rained whilst I was away). So, question, is there any way to avoid this ?!

  I have a 97 MK3 Golf VR6 and have noticed an alarming rear end skittishness when braking from speed or whilst travelling over bumps at speed (eg on a motorway). Anyone else had this problem? Car has done 65.5K

  Levels 0-3 have the driver in control, and are broken down as follows:- Level 0 - includes Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking. They are classed as warning or momentary assistance systems. Level 1 - Features providing either brake/acceleration (Active Cruise Control) or lane centring, but not both simultaneously. Level 2 - The car can adjust speed and keep in lane simultaneously.

  This morning I set off from my house and after driving for about 2 minutes after I'd driven over a few road humps the car started screeching. At first I though it was the brakes as its been raining quite a lot and the cars been on the drive for a day without having been driven but the car was screeching without applying the brakes. I checked under the bonnet and under the car but couldn't see anything unusual.

  I'm concerned about these old cars coming on to the road without any kind of compulsory safety inspection. I realise that modern emissions criteria and brake efficiency tests can't be applied to older vehicles. A major question is what construction and usage regs will apply? I recall older cars having no or one brake lights from new and only one headlight opeating on dip.

  Changed bearings but changed sensor at a later time. Still have a p500 ( left front). The car's abs pump works, it brakes the wheels and unlocks them to maintain direction, abs works slowly at low speed and asr works by fully braking the the sliping wheel ( with greates shoks ) but doesen't control the car to stabilize it.

    I checked on its MOT history and looking at one failure (major central exhaust, horn not working,  another with advisories on tyre close to legal limit, brake pads worn and other brake problems.  Between one failure ( two days before expiry) and pass car had done 350 miles three weeks later.  Would appear to have been driven without MOT.  The one owner would appear to have neglected care as soon as out of warranty.

  Hello, I am new to this forum but I have joined as I am having a problem with my car. My ABS and Brake Fluid light randomly flash up very occasionally whilst driving. I have checked the basics like brake fluid, pads etc. Another problem which is connected with the ABS light is that it doesn't illuminate when the ignition is first turned on.

  Had a look at the car this afternoon and had a test drive it has been very well looked after cosmetically. Checked all the Mot's from the last 6 years or so their was an advisory regarding brake pipe corrosion. their was a receipt for new brake pipes pads and discs from last year so I guess that's sorted. It's done 92000 miles up till now, I'm wondering if their is anything else to look out for.

  By switching off engine and back on it seems to clear fault. I have also started getting other warnings now "brake lamp, drive to workshop", "Run flat indicator, Un-available", "ESP faulty, visit workshop" and another problem on start up yesterday, a Red "BRAKE" warning and wouldn't let me select a gear, again on switching on and off it cleared.
• renault grand scenic 2 - handbrake only half works after disc replacement? 4 May 2013 (Forum)
    i have read that the arm on the caliper needs to be all the way back when rewinding the caliper, when i did it i left the handbrake cable connected. could this be the problem? how can i remedy this? i considered taking the caliper off, pushing the brake a little to get the piston out, then rewinding it again.   any sugggestions would be great, its due a test.

  I've got copies of the history from the fleet company and DPF and cambelt have been replaced on schedule. Within a week of buying it a slight shudder was happening over 60 mph and the brakes were knocking too. The garage replaced the warped brakes straight away and a few weeks later all 4 tyres were replaced - garage was saying that the back tyres had been worn in a way that was causing the vibration.
