Overall reliability

Good car but woeful dealer network.

The car has performed well and exceeded expectations but it does have some niggling issues with it's MG Pilot software. It's basically not fit for purpose, it isn't reliable or accurate and has the most annoying and very loud chime warning sound which cannot be switched OFF or reduced in volume. The windscreen glass also appears to have thousands of tiny air bubbles in it's laminated layers which makes the screen look cloudy when there is low level sunshine and that triggers the warning that MG Pilot has switched OFF. The dealership is aware of this and so far [18months later] there is no comment from MG Motors UK. The main software for the car in general is painfully slow and updates from MG servers takes hours to complete.
The dealership network is very limited in Scotland and although the dealership I bought the car from is excellent I have recently moved house and the nearest one to me is no longer convenient or easy to get to but my choices are limited to that dealer only for the area I live in.
The car developed an "engine fault" warning recently and the response from the dealer nearest to me [more than an hours drive away on a good day!] was to tell me that they were fully booked for the foreseeable future and couldn't book me in to have it rectified. Their best shot was to tell me to call the AA to fix it and if they couldn't it would be transported to the dealership but they couldn't give me a time scale for repair or offer me a courtesy car, not much good when you live in a semi rural area with no immediate access to public transport. Fortunately the dealer I bought the car from was a lot more helpful but that is almost 3 hours drive away.
MG Motors UK needs to sharpen up it's response to customer issues and sort out the lack of dealerships in Scotland as a whole. The lack of service options will necessitate a move away from another MG to a brand which has a better dealer network. This is a shame because the car is a good one, it's well made and the interior is at a level way above it's price tag.
