Had my Vauxhall Mokka (1.6 diesel, manual, 2016 4WD) overheat, looked like was from the near side front, there was smoke and a burning smell coming from that side. Not long after the engine management light came on not too long after along with some sharp jittering of the steering wheel. I think it might just be a brake stuck on, but don’t know why the management light would come on (although the engine bay was rather hot too) any suggestions or guidance would be great thanks l! Certainly possible there’s a problem with the left front brake . Possibly a seized calliper, hence the steering issue. Engine fault light may or may not be related. Systems need to be checked out.

Hi, I have started to notice a new faint rubbing sound on my brand new clio when braking from low speed of about 5 mph to come to a full stop. The car has done about 1600 miles so I assume the brake should be bedded in by now. It doesn’t sound like metallic which could happen if a pebble would be stuck in dust shield. Do all cars have this noise and I happen to notice it now? Can’t figure out which side it is coming from. Read more

Hi,

I have a whining noise coming from the drive belt area of the car, the car has done 77k so it is due a new belt plus water pump. I have heard these are pretty easy to change on these cars, I am handy with tools so I am confident I can to this with a guide. Problem I am having is I can't seem to find any guides/videos or pictures on doing this for this car model. ... Read more

I would spray it with water when it's running and whining. If the whine stops, it's probably the belt. If it doesn't, it's possibly coming from a tired bearing of something it drives.

Yet another discussion on this well aired subject.

But things are changing in that many people are relying on the cover provided by their banks and this has put a huge strain on the companies that associate with the banks.... Read more

I recently had cause to use the AA recovery service.

I paid for the car, but forgot to tax it. It was already taxed, but halfway down the motorway I realised I hadn't taxed it myself. Obviously a lot of ANPR cameras. Would the police or DVLA come after me and issue me a fine for this? Or is it ok as it is already taxed just not in my name (I know since 2017 you have to tax it at sale, but presumably to an ANPR camera it will still show as taxed).

I think the authorities would only be interested if it wasn't continuously taxed (the police aren't interested as it's a DVLA problem). If you bought it in the middle of the month, the tax would expire immediately, but as long as you tax it before the end of the month, you'll be paying for the whole month.

Hello everyone - newbee poster here but long standing fan of this forum.

I have scuffed my car and am looking for quotes. I came across a company called Axioma who quoted roughly £200 to fix.
Can't seem to attach pictures but its a scuff to the side of my bumper, going a bit to the wing as well.
Anyone come across Axioma before / used them can comment? Read more

I was driving towards Stockport the other day, and noticed a 2015-ish DBS Volante stranded in lane 3 of a 4-lane approach road to a big roundabout. The driver was at the side of the road on his phone, presumably summoning help.

When I returned the same way nearly three hours later, the car was still stranded in the same position, this time with two police cars diverting traffic around it.... Read more

Many recovery trucks carry a pair of plastic skids which go under locked wheels, allowing the vehicle to be winched on.

We were watching the local Police tow a car left in a Disabled space in Tenerife. They had the front wheels off the ground and some skates under the rears. ...
