Hi. I had an unfortunate low speed coming together with a low walk which has punctured a hole in the door skin. Will a reputable repairer replace the door skin or can they repair the existing door? Read more

Hi middleman!
Thanks very much for your response to my post. I really appreciated your (and leaseman’s) thoughts and advice with regard to this incident. Having someone else’s reasoned (outside in) perspective really helps to ground things, doesn’t it!
And, you made a really good point with regard to going through the right channels and using the insurers for exactly what we pay them a premium to do: it should minimise the potential of the other party ‘mis-remembering’ the details of the occurrence and/or embellishing their story.
We have put it in the hands of the insurer who has already been very sympathetic and helpful, so fingers crossed it will all get sorted.
As I said above, thanks very much for replying and being generous with your time and advice. It’s really helped us out.
Best wishes

He'd clearly had problems with them in the past and wasn't even willing to provide itemised paperwork. So I paid for the work myself ( it was an MOT failure, cost about £250 so not big bucks). ... Thanks again for the further observations on aftermarket warranties. I've had the renewal notification and I'm mulling the situation over the BH weekend. I'll probably cancel on Tuesday and put my motoring fortunes in the fickle hands of Fate, at least until we buy our next car.
Also giving you the opportunity to inspect it before handing over any money.
