OK £240k isn't quite a quarter mill, and yes it is a 22B, but that asking price is still a bit of a shock!

Well the Impreza in the link at the start is still for sale, but the price for it has been well and truly dwarfed by another one.

Hey all,
Recently got a new car that I insured in the middle of march for £1,894 (ouch).
Out of curiosity I re-quoted for the car as I will of passed my test on the 14th and be droving for 5 years and my insurance has gone down a lot.
I'm currently getting quotes from my same insurer (esure flex) for £992 and sheilas wheels for £1100 on the 14th of may.
I have checked with my current insurer (esure flex) who will offer me a refund of £1550.73 to cancel my policy early, meaning if I re-insure with them again with the cheaper quote I will be getting £500+ back.
Im aware I will be missing out on just over a month towards my no-claims bonus but this does not bother me.
My question is there anything wrong with doing this? Can I be penalised or anything for cancelling my insurance early and taking out another quote with the same insurer?
TI; dr: Quoted in march (esure flex) £1,894. Checked to reinsure with same company its £992, saving massive if I cancel insurance early. Is this okay to do?
Thanks! Read more

It may be of interest that when I spoke to my insurer about the increase in renewal premium, I asked if taking my wife off cover would affect this.

The answer was it would increase the cost, but not as much as substituting my 49 year old daughter as named driver....

I reversed my car on a hard lock two days ago and suddenly multiple warning lights came on - low tyre pressure, Electronic Stability, ABS, Park Pilot not working.

This persisted for 10 miles or so on and off until home.... Read more

They appear to have fixed the problem.

Wheel bearing possibly found when they had the car in the air and spun the wheels or heard the noise on road test and then checked, wheel bearings arn't cheap any more often come as part of a complete hub assembly....

There'a a B road near me which has recently been resurfaced (shock horror) but the road workers have not painted the mini roundabout marking yet. The street signs are still in place. I wondered what the legal position might be if the road markings are missing? Is it still legally a roundabout?

No I've not had an incident, just curious! Read more

I recently had my air con re gassed in December and the guy from Protyre mentioned that it wasn't cool enough and to take it back to be checked over after 2 weeks, Because it was winter time, It was hard to judge if it was cold or not but i could feel that it was a little icey .on the fingers when the air con was blowing , But i took my car back to be checked and to be honest, it felt worse and could not feel the ice cold air on my fingers.

Now we have this hot weather, The air con is luke warm/cold , But not ice cold , But then it will run cold for a matter of a minute and then back to luke warm.... Read more

Some cars have a clutch type pump , some have a solenoid valve and some have both . But without the correct gas quantity in the system, nothing is going to work properly.

Agreed, but in the original post it was mentioned that it wasn't cold enough even just after a re-gas. An proper aircon specialist is what's required really - it needs properly diagnosing.

Please does anyone know how to permanently disable the alarm on my trusty but rather aged Ford Fusion? It's a 2003 model, petrol, manual, 1600. The alarm and warning lights have gone off with increasing regularity for no apparent reason over the last 6 months. We lost the remote keyfob some years ago, so now depend exclusively on the manual key. Until now, the problem seemed to be resolved by unlocking the car manually with the remaining key we have. However, this did not work today, and the alarm went off again and again, so I had to disconnect the battery. With the noise removed I could think to find the fuse panel behind the glove box. I found that the alarm horn could be stopped by removing fuse 24, but this might have other consequences. Maybe I could simply disconnect the alarm horn if it is not too inaccessible? Removing fuse 25 to stop the indicators flashing is obviously not advisable because the indicators are then inoperable. So I am hoping the clever and kind folks on Honest John might be able to help me out once again :-) Read more

Many thanks for that reassurance - happy to live without central locking - old enough to think of it as a luxury :-) Will try to locate alarm horn and disconnect that though. Thanks again!

Which aftermarket brands do you recommend? Are Borg and Beck any good? Febi Bilstein should be better as has 3 years guarantee, when the other just 2 years.
Thanks Read more

Rerepo

Borg and Beck Co. used to be a designer and supplier of automotive parts with a history going back 100+ years. Now its just a brand name owned by First Line who apply it to fairly cheap aftermarket parts sourced mainly from China. I would not use B&B for anything important. Febi is a brand of Bilstein group, they are generally pretty decent.
