I was knocked off my motorcycle by a panel van yesterday who drove off without stopping. I’ve got the index number however it is recorded as uninsured on the insurance database. The bike is a write off and I have fully comp cover. I can’t identify the driver so I can’t see the Police being able to help.( I reported the RTA to the Police online ). My insurance company want to take my bike away to their “ centre” where it will be assessed.
It’s been 15 years since I had an accident and the last time an insurance assessor came to my home to inspect the damaged motorcycle.
Can I insist that the assessor comes to see the bike where it currently is, ie my home? They tell me that is not possible. I’m concerned that once the bike disappears into their “ system “ my rights and negotiating position re settlement may be diminished. I’m insured with Zurich but the claim is being dealt with by an accident management company.

Gave my brother lift yesterday to view a used car, after looking for tyres myself recently thought to check the date codes of the tyres ( out of boredeom).

The tyres are Michelin XSE and look to be in good condition with around 5mm of tread but have a date stamp what looks like 2004

19 year old tyres are fit only for keeping the car off the ground. Certainly not for driving on. The compound will have hardened and grip, particularly in the wet, considerably diminished..

I'm sure such a tyre would be no worse than many sitting as an unused spare on many cars of that age, including mine. Those tyres - 'space-savers' anyway - are advised to be OK up to 50mph (not indefinitely of course). But I bet there are plenty which never get their pressures checked ?

I can’t find any information where the cabin filter is located in the new C5x. I like to change it more frequently than the service schedule.

Any help is much appreciated. Read more

It's very likely that it is accessed from the driver's foot well on a RHD car, and is probably a PITA to get to! The parts database is in conclusive as it just shows the filters floating in space...

My 2019 plate Sandero has a firm suspension and I feel every pothole.

Are there tyres that would give a softer ride?... Read more

A friend has a Logan and has the same issue. His Stepway is marginally more comfortable due to the larger tyres.

Worth bearing in mind that it is not the size of the tyres exactly that matters but the depth of the sidewall (from wheel rim to the road). So unless the sidewall of the tyres on the Stepway are deeper, the tyres being bigger wouldn't make much difference. But the Stepway also has a higher ride height than the Sandero (by about 20mm or thereabouts if memory serves), and that could well explain a cushier ride. ...

A bit of advice please .

This morning got a puncture in my front right wheel due to a piece of wood with 4 screws left in the middle of the road. Took it to get repaired and was charged £10, but only after fixing said it was a temp fix as it is in the sidewall , he then offered to sell me a used tire for £25. ... Read more

I can't see that as moderators we can go any further otherwise we get accused of censorship. As mentioned, since 2005 there has been a disclaimer and a while ago it was copied to all forums by one of us, I think it was me. We are all personally liable for what we write, if there were any comeback against the website it would be the poster that gets their neck felt. This is not new, it's all in the T&C members signed up to.

My son has just turned 17 and while he's taking lessons we've bought a Fiat Seicento for him. It needs a bit of cosmetic tidying up, but miraculously has a full 20 year service history, a clear MOT and no rust. The last 2 services and MOT's cost more than what we paid for it!

I've driven it up and down the drive and it's terrible, but everything works so it will be fine for him, who has no interest in cars. I had a Seicento Sporting in 1999 which I thought was excellent, but I was upgrading from a mk1 Panda with 34hp. ... Read more

I live in the south Englang and have found an approved used 5 series touring in Scotland that has the features (adaptive cruise control and heads up display) I am looking for and is at a good price. The car is just about 20 months old and has done about 20K miles from new.

I buy approved used for comeback and a bit of peace of mind. However I’ve already said both my last two cars came with faults. I should also have said they both came with tick sheets which are hardly reassuring as they look as if they are just routinely ticked. A very minor example, the Golf had a tick for the warning triangle when there wasn’t one and the spare wheel was ticked off. They missed the fact that there were about three inches (no exaggeration) of water in the spare wheel well. I don’t therefore share the view that they are thoroughly checked in all cases. I hazard that any checker who rejected too many cars wouldn’t last long.

As for not looking underneath, that is definitely a risk. Once you have driven the car off the premises then some dealers will swear blind that the creased sill, dented subframe or rippled floor was fine when it left them. These are not warranty items, you are on your own. It’s not easy to check but I always have at least gone in old jeans so I can have a bit of a look....

A few of my relatives are viewing sky by purchasing a fire stick, then somebody programmes it to be able to view sky, everything, movies, sports, the lot, they also are given a vpn, which shows them in a different country so they are untraceable, I have sky, but I have a contract with them, but will these people who are viewing through a vpn, get found out…?

Hi, just received my renewal from Autoaid. Last year was £61 now it’s gone up to over £78 plus if your car is over 10 years old I would have to pay the first £25. Not that impressed with that sort of increase. Wondering what other people are seeing in their renewals. Sparky 100. Read more

Oh, I agree - for the level of cover it's great value.

Just starting to wonder if the price gap is opening up enough to warrant a change given that I don't need that level of cover (particularly the European cover). Renewal due at end of September so will check nearer the time.

Nobody ever gives much credit to Fords on here except perhaps for the odd old Focus and the 1.25 Fiesta. Ford over the years have produced some really great cars both family and performance wise. Indeed Elaine Robinson may have been conceived in the back of a FORD much to Benjamin Braddock's amusement! Read more
