MOT showed both discs and pads on the front as advisories.

I recently decided to get the pads ONLY replaced. I anticipate doing the discs in the coming 12 months (don't do much mileage) BUT, is it possible to replace the discs and then refit my part-worn pads, or will I have to factor in new pads.... Read more

FWIW - I traded my 6 year old 308 T9 in earlier this year at 43k miles, still had 6mm on front & rear pads which where still the factory fitted original items ( original disks to )

Just had the wishbones replaced on my Peugeot 308SW (2015) @45k.

Just wanted to check roughly how much time should be charged to do both sides? Read more

Word of warning for 308 T9 fitted with LED headlamps - one of the headlamp levelling sensors is fitted to the front right suspension arm. Non franchised garages & even some Peugeot main dealers manage to damage them when carrying out front wishbone / strut removal / replacements as they forget to disconnect the sensor first.

You haven’t actually established what’s wrong with the car , so I’d be reluctant to spend out on something it doesn’t necessarily need .

Thank you elekie&a/c doctor,

Disconnected battery neg terminal, checked the cables Cleaned cables around, connections, sprayed with electric cleaner, sanded even if it looked clean. I'll see how it goes.. I bought that part in case it goes wrong so i have a part to compare performance.....

Back yesterday from a round trip from Cheshire to Cardiff, Friday to Sunday. Southwards via Welshpool / Newtown, then hill roads for more enjoyable driving in the heat. Trip back northwards, leaving 4:30 via A465 and A49, a route I have driven intermittently since 1967. Several stretches have been modernised (Pontypool, Abergavenny, Leominster, Ludlow bypasses) but much of it is as it was. Yesterday was like the 1970s - hardly any traffic, no holdups whatever. Pity about the heat, which had turned everything greenish-brown, but temp fell slowly from 34° when we started to 26° when we got back at 8pm.

Almost like the old days ... Read more

It's for this reason that I get over the border to Wales on my motorbike as often as I can: the roads are fantastic, the scenery is stunning and there's so much less traffic.

Of course, there's still the occasional logjam around tourist spots during the holiday season (Betws-y-Coed, Llanberis, some coastal resorts) but those are easily avoided....

For context, my wife and I have been using Waze regularly for many years. It has proved itself as superior to our in-car satnavs many times, especially in fast changing situations. Yet recently we have both experienced suggested routes that were simply very poor. Luckily in the more serious cases we knew the roads and declined to take them. The problems ranged from being directed onto narrow single track roads, to highly circuitous routes that ended up rejoining the original road a few miles later without avoiding the problem, to actively directing us onto very congested roads that had been like that since we passed them going the other way several hours earlier. Is anyone else experiencing issues or have we simply both been unfortunate? Read more

<< 30 years go I was a very frequent user of the M1 between Yorkshire and London. An M1 closure for an accident would result in the A5 being gridlocked. >>

(slightly off topic, but) for many years I have welcomed the existence of our motorway system because of the traffic it diverts from the A-roads, which revert usefully to the level of traffic they were intended for. Equally I have welcomed the M6 almost since the Preston bypass opened, as it gave me acceptable travel times from Cheshire to the Lakes....

Car has done 99k. FSH with recent full service.

I just posted another issue but this is completely separate

Brakes were squealing so took to garage. They replaced front pads and discs. Took it home, brakes still squealing so went back after a week and they cleaned the rear brakes. Also had an MOT at the same time which passed.
On leaving garage, the ABS/ESP warning lights came on (never happened before). They said nothing to do with what they did on the brakes and should reset which it did for about a week - now both lights have come on again - and brakes still squealing although not as much. Garage were always really good in past but beginning to lose confidence. Any advice appreciated.

I had a similar thing after brake work on a Peugeot 307 estate. The abs light kept coming on. I found that the garage had unbolted the ABS sensor on one of the wheels but hadn't tightened the bolt back up when they'd finished. Fortunately it was an easy fix.

Car has done 99k. FSH with recent full service.
Driving from London to Hampshire car lost all power on Guildford bypass at a dangerous place going uphill on bend with nowhere to pull off. Zero power. Only warning light was battery.
Attended by AA who said there was no compression and guessed I’d blown the engine as cam belt was intact. Only thing that happened when turning ignition was whirring sound.
Recovered back to local garage - when car was off-loaded AA man tried the ignition and car started perfectly and drove around the car park. Left the car with the garage. They ran computer diagnostics but can find no fault. Battery tested and perfect. Spoken to other garages but no-one can tell me what the fault is, why it happened or whether it will happen again. Last garage told me they couldn’t diagnose an intermittent fault if it wasn’t in progress at the time.
Car still driving normally after 10 days but only using on local roads in my little town. Too nervous to use it on a fast road.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Read more

You can’t go from no compression to a fully working engine just by turning the key on and off . It’s likely you have a problem with the egr valve . Very common failure on this engine, and not a cheap fix .
