Might hefty price increases and less choice of non-hybrid/EV small cars (limiting potential buyers to expensive cars only) also have something to do with it?
Not helped by significantly ramping up of anti-emissions laws which then make it uneconomic for car manufacturers to make ICE-only or even mild hybrid small cars because the public just cannot afford them? Read more
Hi, a few months I was clipped from behind while stationary at a roundabout. (Waiting to turn left). The other drivers continued straight on without stopping. This caused bumper damage and a popped out parking sensor which bleeps continuously in reverse (repair cost approx 1k) I managed to capture his reg with a high degree of certainty. I reported it it to the police- apparently they have been making occasional checks at his/ her address without successfully interviewing him. Going through my insurance I was able to find his insurance provider. They have made some token efforts to contact the policy holder however he appears to be stonewalling them. I'm trying to get the DVLA to release his/her information so I can contact the other party directly (no vigilante action planned I would just like to ask them to engage with the insurance company and understand why they didn't do the right thing and stop). I received a reply to a v888 form submission.

That’s brilliant @Gibbo_Wirral which claims company did you use? What was their charge?
Thanks so much,

In June 2019 my partner and I were spending the weekend in London. We had had dinner at the shard and we decided to take an UBER back to the hotel. When we left the shard I arranged the uber on my phone and we waited outside. A short while after the taxi arrived and we jumped in. When we got to our destination, we pulled uo alongside the hotel and as we were getting out a black cab driver drive round the taxi we were in just as my fiancee was opening the door. The black cab caught the door of the uber subsequently pushing the door further round than it should go. Pictures were taken and my fiancee gave the uber driver his details and we went up to our room for the night. We left London the next day and returned home. A few days later the uber driver often messaged and phoned my fiancee claiming we owed him £3,000 in compensation and loss of earnings. We phoned uber who said we would not be liable and that this accident would be covered under the drivers insurance. We then never heard any more. That was 3 years ago, and recently my fiancee has been contacted via the government website notifying him he is being sued by the uber driver for approx £1,800 in loss of earnings, hire vehicles, public transport etc. Does anybody have any advice regarding this as surely this should be covered by his insurance as this is obviously an accident. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

Or would this be claimed against the driver of the other vehicle? As the person in control of the vehicle, I suspect it's the driver's responsibility.
Yes. But it sounds as though primary blame lies with the person carelessly opening the door, rather less with the driver of the approaching car, and none at all with the Uber driver. Sadly that isn't the way insurance works - luckily (perhaps) for the OP....
Okay, so I know 100% what I did. I'm not denying I ran a red light. It was a tempoary traffic light, it was placed in a stupid position that caused traffic to backup through a junction of actual permenant traffic lights. Once I cleared that junction myself and the other cars in front approached a set of tempoary traffic lights. They changed to green - for like two seconds - before going to red. Four cars in front of me drove through the red light, so I followed them. I did it because in the heat of the moment I was p***ed off, it looked like they were just about to take down the traffic lights and I think I could see the guy manning the lights telling the guy at the front to go through the red. I'm like 90% sure the works have a permit, I'm not worried about getting caught by a "camera", I know full well the boxes on the traffic lights are not cameras, I'm more worried about one of the workers or motorists reporting me. That said if they do I take it they will also report the four other cars who went through the light. Has anyone else done this, whats the odds Read more
I thought that initally but I'm pretty sure I've also read that's a myth...if they have the permit, and the sign indicating "STOP HERE WHEN LIGHTS RED" etc its equivelant to traffic lights.
It was never dangerous driving, I was well witrhin the speed limit and there were no cars approaching. I wouldn't normally do it but it seemed such a pathetically short time to be on green. If it was an actual traffic light I wouldn't have done it
Looks like this isn't a government operation but just by anyone who wants to use the monitoring stations. Outside of the really majori cities they probably aren't that representative of pollution just via lack of coverage (my town has none).
Still, better than the 'official' government monitoring sites (especially those measuring temperature) which always seem to be positioned adjacent to airport runways or the busiest roads, which isn't exactly representative....
We've found out that the council (according to a council worker) installed the dropped kerb incorrectly some years ago (it's too narrow for the width of drive) but we always managed to get the cars on and off OK
Now the problem is that despite having cars with increased ground clearance than before (approx 4cm higher) but longer wheel base the cars bottom out, the dropped kerb/pavement area has been gradually worn down by neighbours / shoppers etc using the dropped kerb and pavement as a turning point gradually scrubbing the pavement away.... Your council will have it on a cyclical maintenance schedule. They will probably tell you when it's due to be repaid. If not, you can put in a FOI request.
In any case, it won't be for ages. If it's causing you a problem, you might be better off with £30 worth of tarmac repair from B&Q and a shovel
Hello, my 2014 Honda jazz recently regularly has a single chime after about 30 seconds when the car starts but there is no warning.

Could this simply be that you have set the speed warning chime at a certain speed and when you exceed this speed the chime is heard ? Meant to help you avoid exceeding speed limits.

Hi all -
I took my car in for a service and 2 new brake discs. The next morning I picked it up and left a trail of oil for half a mile before the garage runf me and said they spotted oil where my car had been parked.
On its return, the garage said it was the rocker box seal and they had to order it from Germany as there were none available in the UK.
3 weeks later, the part arrives and I'm told a fuel line was also leaking and they spotted this only now. Again, part ordered... one more week and they say it's ready. They road test it and ring me again to say the head gasket has now blown and it will cost £2000.
They then say, they are happy to buy the car for £2000 less than Autotrader prices.
I've told them I need a day or two to think.
I'm not sure if I'm being scammed or just the victim of an unfortunate string of events...
???????Many thanks in advance.... Read more
All MB models have an engine oil sump drain plug, but not all have a dipstick tube .Like some VW Group engines - perversely my 3.0 TDi VW has an unused dipstick tube, but no dipstick - electronic level gauges are great until they fail.
Making yourself a dipstick would not necessarily involve too much rocket surgery....
Hello,
After stopping by in a village, the driver thought they had entered the next destination into Google maps and so continued their journey. However, it directed them to make a sharp turn onto what looked like a country lane. Driver actually missed the road the first time but came back and turned in, focused ahead as it was a narrow road. They continue until reaching a point where a fence lays next to the road on either side which had private road, no access signs. Maps was saying to continue but driver stopped and manoeuvred to face the exit direction. Before driver started to leave, they checked maps to see a random location was accidentally clicked on to which the destination was set to. Whilst 'driver 1' is amending the destination on the side of the road (with poor signal) a car comes down from the private section beyond the fence and this 'driver 2' blocks 'driver 1', says "alright" and tells their passenger the plate number of "driver 1" and drives further down the road stopping on the side. 'Driver 1' having corrected their navigation after a few mintues, now drives towards entrance, past 'driver 2' (who could have stopped to record them on the road). 'Driver 1' looks at the surroundings of the entrance at the main road and sees one 'private road' sign in the bush which was not obviously visible when entering, and also a similar small sign on a short post on the corner with other small boards which seemed like commercial signs, again, not eye catching when entering from the main road. ... At the moment trespass is purely a civil offence so as you were leaving there's little they can do.
You were probably filmed because they were worried you were casing the place prior to stealing something.
On Monday 15th August at 8.00pm Channel 4's "Dispatches" programme is entitled "Why is my car so expensive?".
It might have a few answers.
