I wonder if it could be adapted to take a slide hammer, or if one of the slide hammer based kits would be a better alternative?...
Assuming that there is some truth in the hysterical news reports of a cost of living crisis, it follows that many people are going to postpone any plans they may have had to change cars. If a car is giving good reliable service why change it? Read more
We sold our second car in March as it hadn’t been used much since the pandemic. Glad we sold when we did as managed to benefit from the higher prices.
We’ll be looking to replace it at some point but no immediate rush. What’s your opinion on long term forecast for used car prices, do you think they’ll return to pre-pandemic levels?
I have just recently upgraded to sky Q, from Hd, I do watch a lot of programs on sky but I mainly have it for the f1, the engineer who came to install and set it up, said he’d read a memo that sky are going to start charging extra for the f1 channel, ( I currently have it included in my package) , now, if they lump it all together and include other sports that I’m not interested in, it means I’ll be paying for something I don’t watch so I’ll probably end up cancelling ( I’m not tied into a contract) , does anyone think this was some kind of sales pitch to get me to consider switching to another package thus paying more?, has anyone heard of such a memo?.. I have SkyQ and have done since launch. £80 a month and they threatened £115 so I cancelled.
I now have all Sky Sports Channels for £79.50. A son has got them down to £60 but he sat with no SKY for 3 months when they cut him off at the end of his contract and did not renew,...

Hi, had to call roadside recovery as my VW Touran engine has fallen away from the mount. I had the Cambelt (and pump) change 6 weeks ago and I wanted advice as to whether the mechanic could have contributed to the engine nearly falling out of the bottom of the car this morning? When the car was dropped at the garage they suggested that they would not have had to remove much to install the cambelt - so indicating it was probably not them. The only good news is the engine still runs, but very concerned about the damage that may have been cause with the engine dropping down on one side. Thanks Read more
Thanks for coming back to update us. It's always good to get a conclusion and as you say, this seems a fair outcome.
I changed the tyres at a tyre shop last week for the work van and usually they balance all 6 wheels ( dual rear wheel lorry) but this shop said you only balance the front ones, and he removed the weights from the rear wheels and put them on unbalanced. I find it strange, every other tyre shop seams to balance all of them. I asked him about it and he said he knows better, that you only balance the rear ones in normal vans, that have 4 wheels.

The car I had longest, though, and hence put most tyres on, was a Renault 5 Campus I got from my mother when she stopped driving.
Quite a nice little car, by far the most expensive (non-company) car I've had, dealer maintained from new, allegedly (Of course it never saw the dealer again, and since it had a mismatched set of spark plugs when I got it I wasn't uber impressed with the dealer servicing), quite respectable....
Thoughts on this electronic braking control system from Brembo (looks good imo)

Parking brakes - quick search shows that the vast bulk of issues relate to vehicles 10-20 years old when the technology was fairly new (generally). Trad braking systems suffer from a whole range of different symptoms as they age:
- seized cables so the handbrake is ineffective or useless
- stretched cables making application difficult
- corroded pivot points
- damaged ratchet mechanisms meaning once applied it may not stay applied
- generally very low or ineffectual emergency brake performance
Suggesting electrically operated brakes "will never reach that level of reliability" is without evidence. Trad braking systems have numerous failure points - in fairness 50+ years development has engineered most of them out but some I have personally experienced:...
