So went to Wales for a short break and started to notice a knocking or vibrating noise coming from around the front nearside wheel. Car has just under 46,000 miles on clock.

My initial thought was bad shock but today it made the same vibrating noise when pulling away at a roundabout from almost stopped (2nd gear) so not entirely convinced.... Read more

Drop link?
Nip into any garage, they'll soon wiggle a few suspension items when its on the ramp and find the issue?

A friend of mine with a 100kw Ford Mustang has heard that the government is planning to ration electricity to EV’s this winter, as power cuts are virtually inevitable. The cheap overnight charging deals will end.

I did wonder how the government would prioritise electrical power this winter. Also with this in mind, apparently owners of EV’s are now investing in portable petrol generators. Read more

"In the UK this winter, electricity will be restricted to EV’s due to the cold."

I absolutely guarantee this will not happen. It isn't physically possible to prevent EVs from being charged....

I’m off on my holidays to sunny Florida, and as usual my eyes are watching the roads and car lots for the sort of metal that appeal to the locals. I expected plenty of bloated, unnecessary and overweight American saloons and trucks but I’ve found the Americans to be a sensible lot with roads filled with some excellent normally aspirated petrol driven Japanese models we don’t get in the UK anymore, or ever in some cases. I much hanker after the current Toyota Camry and Honda Accord which fill the roads over here along with large Hyundai and Kia saloons and MPV’s.

They don’t seem to have been taken in by the daft top heavy SUV craze which has swept away all the good family saloons and the bulk of the larger family estates in the UK. We’re still just with worse to drive and less efficient SUV wannabe’s like the Qashqai and swmbo’s HRV instead, while I’d really rather have a good Camry, examples of which you see regularly here dating back to the 80’s and 90’s and still running.

I did spot a few Honda HRV’s and CRV’s and several showed paintwork damage from the heat, one HRV had the paint on the roof burnt off. Possibly it’s been a non-insurance approved bodge repair job but it wasn’t the only Honda I spotted with paint issues. Small SUV’s very much still play second fiddle to a good old family saloon car. Something I wish was still the case in the UK.

One thing I’m glad isn’t the same however is the standard of driving, which is some of the worst I’ve encountered on my behind the wheel travels over the years. They’re all over the place on the road, with no lane discipline at all. Read more

The last time I went to the USA (2017) it was with Are Lingus. Horrible flight on some sort of Airbus. The flight from Birmingham to Dublin was fine but the transatlantic flight not good. Cramped seating, to the point that I was beginning to get claustrophobia (and I go caving), tepid tea and very lacklustre food.

Hi guys,

apart from the usual Haynes manual is there an alternative online workshop manual for the above car?... Read more

Hi,

I am a fresh owner of the CR-V 2009. I have took the car to the honda technical checks, and suspension was spot on. However I noticed that when I driving on uneven road surface or small road holes, bumps, manholes etc I feel very unpleasant noise as all this uneven surface transfer to the cabin, like there was no suspension at all.... When i had my CR-V i found the "CR-V owners club" forums useful. There is a sub forum for each generation (yours is a gen 3) suggest you join and ask there. Lots of helpful people there with good knowledge of CR-Vs.

In order to avoid parking charges, inconvenient public transport and expensive long distance taxi, we found someone to take us to and collect from Heathrow T2-3 long stay using our car. Is it best/cheapest for them to arrange insurance with their company; us to arrange it with ours, or do it a third way, e.g. RAC day insurance? Any advice from anyone with experience of doing this much appreciated. Read more

Inkjet printer - discount the basic printer and charge champagne prices for the ink

Hence I moved to laser printer. Overall cheaper than inkjet printers. Though my printing need is mostly monochrome. ...

.It was a 40 road and the guy in front was barely doing 30 so I was quite close, hoped he would just speed up. Well he didn't he did the opposite he randomly kept braking and going down to 20. My fault for following him too closely . Say if he reported me. Could I then counter report saying he was antagonising me and brake checking which I believe is also illegal?

Are awareness courses offered for tailgating etc, would it be 3 points for DwDCA or six points for dangerous? I'm still within the 2 year limit.

Has anyone noticed the OP's rather ungallant title to this thread?

Hopefully Mrs OP is not a frequent visitor to this forum.

When the MG5 came along, it really rocked the EV establishment in terms of bang per buck. But it looked a bit odd, like they couldn't decide whether to make a hatchback or estate, so instead settled on something which looked like a hatchback with an abbreviated estate rear grafted on. But it certainly was cheap, and for folk looking for a usable family EV, who were not overly concerned with looks or driving dynamics, it was a winner.

Now they are bringing us the MG4, slightly smaller, more distinctive in appearance, and crucially, even cheaper. Prices start just under £26k for the smaller battery model (around £2k cheaper than the MG5) with a WLTP range of 218 miles. An extra £2.5k gets you the bigger battery with a 281 mile range and still comes out nearly £800 less than the cheapest Corsa-e!. ... Read more

Could be that the decision to source Chassis from China was taken by a bean counter. They were five pence per chassis cheaper than sourcing from closer to home. Yep bean counters really are that short sighted.

Very few people will pay more for something that can get elsewhere cheaper.

FoxyJukebox

Just wondering whether these huge increases in electricity will have an effect on whether people will buy EVs. and for those already running one-is it still the cheapest option.?
For me the key reason to buy is because petrol cars won’t be manufactured much longer.

It is inevitable that the government will seek to replace duty lost on fuel sales as EV is adopted. I would expect any changes to be fully implemented by the 2030 transition date - and possibly a few years before then for new vehicles.

RFL may be increased but I suspect that charging on the basis of usage/mileage would be perceived as "fairest"....
