DS set to pioneer ditching touchscreens. Hopefully others will follow suit.

I is a little ironic that DS wants to do away with touchscreens. I watched a video review of the new DS 4, and while the reviewer (Rory Reid, ex Top Gear presenter) was very impressed with the car overall, he really wasn't impressed with the infotainment system and touchscreens saying it was very awkward and not intuitive at all!.

But I remember reading that if there is a small ledge or shelf right below the touchscreen, it makes it much easier to use because you can use your pinky to steady your hand making it easier to hit whatever you are aiming for.

The direct injection setup with the VAG 1.4/1.5 tsi can be rather rattily - this could be normal. The start cycle is strange re noises as well, my 1.4 has a real whir on first start-up especially in warm weather which an air wash system to light up the catalyst quickly.

Can you hear it inside the car with the doors/bonnet shut? After a minute or so my Superb is silent at tick-over inside the car but if you lift the bonnet you can hear the direct injection ticking away if you lift the bonnet and listen from the front of the car....

How much does it weigh. and is the fan reversible?

Car weighs 1000kg, fan generates another 1000kg of downforce. So in theory, (were it possible) reversing the fan should make the car weightless....

I hired a removal van a month ago for moving homes and the van was returned with no damage. The property I moved from was a flat with a communal car park.

I have just been contacted by the van here people advising me that the management company are saying that I damaged a small retaining wall in the car park however I dispute that I did this.... Read more

Post a review on trustpilot and on local Facebook marketplace pages and this will quickly go away. I’ve used both before when I’ve suffered poor service or attempted scams like this from local businesses and fly traders. They’ve always backed down in the face of losing a crippling amount of business. The power of social media is an excellent tool against vermin like this.

Car has been left for 3 days. Was unexpectedly totally flat today, no power at all. I have not experienced any recent problems.

Battery is 5 years old, reads only 3V on a multimeter. Is this battery worth trickle charging or jump starting? Read more

I got a cheapo Chinese pulse charger quite similar to this one except it doesn't do 24V. Was 400NT (about a tenner).

Seems to work....

I was driving on a 60 stretch of road the driver in front of me was doing 50 ish I was a safe distance behind the car. Then he slowed down to 30 for no reason I waited for a while the road was clear and I over took the car a seat Ibiza fr. As I over took him, he then accelerated sharply as looked tover my shoulder ( life saver) he was there so I could not move back into my lane. I floored my car to make some space so I could move back in safety but he cept on accelerating. I saw a gap behind him so I braked hard but so I could move back in, but he braked just after me matching my cars speed. I was still on the wrong side of the road for what seemed way to long. I was keeping an eye in the drive who was now laughing. I was becoming more scared by the second. I floored my car again to around to try and get passed him. But he was still there so I braked again but so did he but I was ready for it. I had to floor my car again and I eventually got passed but I was pushing 90 95 to make a space. He was an i****.

Hopefully I haven't got a ticket. I have no points on my license. I like to keep it that way. What can you do in that case. Luckly the road was clear both ways. Between Bala and Dolgellau... Read more

... simply pull over, take a side turn at the earliest opportunity and have 5 minutes break.

I do this when I find myself behind a few cars trundling along several mph below the posted limit. After a minute or two I can continue at my preferred speed and enjoy the drive a bit more (until I catch them up again) :-)

The law seems pretty straightforward and the council appear to have made a mistake (or several), but it seems truly surreal to wave a 20 year old 5 litre car into a Clean Air Zone!
(Real World consumption from HJ for a 2006 "Blue Efficiency" model quotes official mpg of 30.1, which I believe may not be achievable in an urban environment, ahem.)

As far as I can tell, the size of the engine makes little difference, only that it be at least euro 4 compliant. This covers petrol cars from 2006 onwards, but presumably the Merc's engine also complies despite being older. Admittedly it does seem counter intuitive, but various classic cars will undoubtably be much dirtier and thirstier than a 5 litre V8 Merc, and they will also be exempt from the charges.

Indeed so. My dirty old 'historic' TR7 is ULEZ exempt, as is my thirsty eventual classic 2005 6litre Audi. But the well engineered W12 is one of the cleanest engines around - the emissions test at 71,013 miles reads... CO (<0.20%) 0.00, HC (<200ppm) 1. ...

Good morning, last week my wife's car was hit by a car transporter, the car was parked legally and she was not in it. The vehicle has been taken away to be assessed by the insurance company. If it is repaired and then becomes a Cat D, and we get the car back do they recompense the difference in car value, as a 12k car becomes instantly devalued by no fault of our own. If I wanted to trade it in a dealer wouldn't want to know.

Thanks David Read more

If your insurer decides the car is a write-off, but you choose to have it repaired, they will have lost the salvage value of the car so will pay you less than full write-off value. But if you make that choice early, 'salvagers' are not involved as the car will stay with you. I did this about 5 years ago for the car which remains parked outside (in full running order). You just need to keep your options open, including choice of repairer instead of one chosen by your insurer.
