If you ever feel like your job has no purpose, always remember that, right now, there are people installing turn indicator lights in BMW and Audi cars. Read more
I recently had an MOT and service done on a Golf TSI. Since then I've noticed the MPG reading is not reaching as high as it was before. Is there anything that could have affected this? It was a full service with oil change and also two new tyres. Thinking tyres might need wearing in or a wrong type of oil was used? Read more
However I tend to try and buy higher octane petrol anyway after I heard a slight pinkng windows down in France with my tsi Superb when going uphill with 95 RON( can't be heard with windows up sue to sound proofing). I filled with a higher Octane petrol and up the same hill the noise had gone. To me pinking = potential damage to the engine.
All the petrol cars I have bought since the early 90's have been injected and have had knock sensors that detect pinking and make adjustments to prevent damage. That is why the range of RON rating that are safe to use are quite wide. Using the Fabia as an example the recommended RON is 95 but if necessary you can go as low as 92 RON (won't happen, none sold in this country). They do tell you performance and economy will be affected, that's the knock sensor doing its job as well as the lower spec petrol....

the key to successful driving in winter is having the right tyres. with inappropriate tyres even a 4 wheel drive will struggle. see tyrereviews.com for more information.

Just refilled the tank with Shell V Power Diesel, and to my amazement, the MPG come back to 46, from the fuel station in Preston to home about 20 miles, but on a warm engine.
The tank before got down to 33.6 mpg on the whole tank before fuel warning light came on....
I bought 6 month ago car not from trader just privat.
Now I know another owner have same car the same model, the same colour, the same number plate, the same number of logbook.
It is possible dvla send 2 the same logbooks V5C to two diffrence people?

If you know so much detail about the other car is it not possible to ask the owner where he bought his and if his ownership is valid,eg did he buy his car new or did he buy it from a reputable dealer, how old is his car. You can often tell a cars a cars age from date stamps on parts such as headlights etc. Does the vin plate on each car look original you can tell if they are tampered with and there are two. Is there any sign of accident damage or paint repair and are the cars exactly the same as regards interior trim wheels or any other extras you can spot. Do the number plates look original they often give a clue as to original dealer or if accident damaged just plain. As you say one is probably a clone
Hi there. I'd like recommendations for my next car please?
I'm looking for an automatic estate car with an electronic parking brake. I have become disabled this past year and no longer have the strength to use a handbrake or clutch. It also needs to be an estate so my electric wheelchair will fit in the boot. Ideally it needs to be ULEZ compliant too. My budget is up to £8k and I'd like a car less than six years old.... I'm also now considering cars a bit older than before to fit within my budget.
1 advantage of the aforementioned Avensis is that they will now warrant them up until 10 years under the Relax program (subject to the t&cs) www.toyota.co.uk/owners/warranty/toyota-warranty...
Hi, apologies if this isn't the best forum, but as a new (older) driver I am just hoping for a bit of advice re an incident at a junction, as I feel like I've made a really silly mistake.
I was approaching a junction that I go through regularly, in the right of two lanes, which is for both going straight on, and turning right. The light was green, and on the approach, a car was in the box junction signalling to turn right. I saw this car start to move, so I went forwards too, when the car in front stopped. I basically ended up stuck behind this car, over the pedestrian crossing, and the repeater light ahead was blocked by a double-decker bus coming in the opposite direction, also turning right. ... Thanks for the advice. I have since driven back to the junction and think I'm a bit clearer on things.
There isn't actually a repeater light, and the light I saw ahead is for another junction, meaning I obviously got confused but couldn't actually see whether the light for my entrance was green or not when I proceeded....

In August this year the turbo on my mini went. 2K later the garage fitted a new one and said that an oil change after 500 miles is advised or it may void the manufacturers warranty. Low and behold I completely forgot about this and have only just booked it in for an oil/filter change 3000 miles later. I have two questions:
1) will this have damages the vehicle in any way?
2) will it have voided the warranty as 500 miles does seem very low?

The idea of an oil change at 500 miles , is to remove any further debris from the engine that may not have been flushed out during the original repair. Any future warranty claim on the turbo may have been compromised by leaving it too long .

I walked around the back of our cars and there are these funny plastic orange things!! I will look in the handbook and see what it says--may be next year
