Hi all,

I drove my wife's Opel first time after a while and I think there is a weird sound coming from the engine area. I am not a mechanic but I think it sounds like a faulty bearing sound, kind of grinding noise. Please check the following video I captured and let me know what you think?... Read more

Sounds like a pulley/tensioner/alternator bearing. If you remove the belt as described above and the noise goes you narrow the problem to a few possibles, the car will run although the alternator light will come on as the alternator is not turning and the battery is not being charged. Does the car have Aircon? You can use a small length of hose and put one end near you ear and the other by each tensioner etc sequentially to narrow down the noise, but don’t get it/you tangled in the belt/fan. The noise is so obvious a garage should suss it in no time if it is not within your diy skills.

Please can some assist me and tell me how I can legally progress with this. Our car has been in a garage for months whilst they waited for a turbo, we had it back for a day then something else happened it went back in and we have just got it back. We accused the garage of using the car whilst they were waiting for the part. We got it back yesterday, today I looked at the MOT history only to find that the mileage is less than it was on the MOT history from previous year and this is reflected on the cars display, we are livid as now this will cause issues if we decide to sell. I really want to take this all the way Read more

Hi,

I bought a used 2014 Vauxhall Corsa and had it delivered due to the distance of the dealer. I took the punt based on a perfect MOT history, no serious advisories and no registered accidents with the vehicle.... Read more

Assuming you didn't visit the sellers premises at any time during the purchase process then you are covered by Distance Selling Regulations and have 14 days to reject the car.

A friend was shunted from behind in a traffic queue. All captured on rear dashcam. Looks like sub- 5mph. Other driver admitted fault and very apologetic, doesn't want to go through insurance. Bumper looks undamaged but rear panel pushed in v. slightly and hatch lock is tight. Needs pulling out a little I think.

Should she report to her insurance right now or wait for a proper damage assessment and see if the other driver pays up directly? Is there a time limit on reporting to insurance co? Read more

Consider a PCP finance lease on a Duster

There are a few petrol with LPG versions in stock if your not fussed on colour

Lease it for 3/4 years then hand it back.

How is some of this any different to scrolling through menus on those tablets installed on/in the dashboard?

Surely that makes many of their functions illegal? Read more

Have a ford focus 1.6 Tdci that sometimes after changing into 4th or 5th gear the revs will increase slightly (around 200rpm) with no speed pickup, then drop and the speed picks up. This can happen 1-3 times in a row fluctuating then once going it's fine.

A similar thing can happen when travelling in 4th/5th gear at say 60 then look to increase speed but the revs increase slightly with no increase in speed before revs drop and speed picks up. Again the revs can fluctuate a few times before stabilising.... Read more

Thank you for updating us. A clutch that's on its way out will nearly always make itself felt in higher gears, so it was pretty much a foregone conclusion.

Hi, I'm having trouble with the alternator on my car.

I replaced the original one because it wasn't charging anymore and replaced it with a Remanufactured one from a local company. This one worked and charged the battery but had a whining noise most noticeable at idle. I sent it back and got a replacement which made the excat same noise. I then got a 2nd hand original Ford one and the whining noise had gone but the 2nd hand one was on its last legs. I then went to Euro Car Parts and purchased a lucas alternator which is now making the same noise as the first ones. Any idea what it could be?... Read more

A Very short waft of WD 40, while it is running will sort it, temporarily at least, and should do no harm
