Trilogy.

In September many of you will be aware I was asked by a friend to sell his Ford Focus. BTW, thank you for all the advice. At the time WBAC first offered £650 pounds, within days upped it to £700. Yesterday they sent an email offering £955. What's going on? Surely cars haven't increased in value so much. As an aside, having just sold the Saab 9-3 that had been in the family for 19 years, I bought the Focus. Read more

I was happy with what I got, with 1 caveat.

The two dealers I asked, were not the dealer who i bought the car from,...

Hi all,
I have bought a car and my outer sills, on both sides, have a thick under seal.
A pair of my jeans are now needing a wash!
Any idea why this would have been put on?

There is no mention at all of this on the MOT, which was only done a few days before I bought the car.

I can’t see any obvious signs of damage/rust.

Thanks in advance. Read more

I suspect the sills have scratches and scuff marks . Covering them with a black body schutz is a quick and easy way to smarten up the bodywork. It’s possible they've used the wrong product. A quality body schutz should be touch dry between 1-2 hrs .

So, took the boss down to the Dealer this morning and showed her the cars.

Was offered a pre-reg (pre reg late sept 2021) Ventura Manual in white, 6 speed, has front and rear parking sensors and reversing camera plus all the bells and whistles.... Read more

Does your new one come with a 'ball and chain' holder? :-)

If you look at the photos of the centre console, there are two cupholders strategically placed.

No handbrake to interfere with chain....

Stuck between buying a bmw m340i or new Tiguan R not rline proper R model any advice or comments between these 2 cars most welcome,?? Read more

RT

Hi yes the Tiguan R has active dampers for the suspension also has active suspension to change between comfort sport and race so you can play and mix everything as has the m340i aswell.

Have a good test drive - on my VW Touareg, the difference between Comfort, Normal and Sport is quite small.

I wanted to like this car.

But £15,000 for 71bhp and pop-out rear windows is a joke, and no doubt the version shown in the pics will cost much more than the £15,000 entry model.

I paid just over £10,000 for the top spec of a competitor model just over 5 years ago - shows you how steep car price inflation has been in recent times.

Looks like I'll be keeping my current car for a lot, lot longer now prices have gone completely nuts. I'm lucky enough to be able to afford a new car, but resent paying these ridiculous prices, especially when you consider that depreciation is going to be much more painful on these higher prices. Well the prices have now been announced - £14,795 for the base version, then £17,715 for the top of the range model, also with cheap pop-out windows that don't wind down and a weedy 71bhp 1.0 non-turbo engine.

Almost £18,000 for a tiny, underpowered, cheaply made city car?! No wonder cars aren't selling, regardless of all the propaganda the SMMT and some car publications spew out about chip shortages and BREXIT being to blame!

Hello all,

I am considering selling my 2009 (09) VW Golf GT TSi. In 2016 (approx 50k) a new engine was fitted. The mileage is now at 109k. The entire service history of the car is VW dealer and/or VW authorised.

How does the fact the engine is at only at approximately 60k effect the value of the car? Will it be more appealing and if so, what sort of premium should this hold?... Read more

Thanks for the advice.

Possibly a predictable event but a family member had a low battery warning and decided the car, which started, needed a run out. It ran for five miles and died with no power whatsover in a dark country lane.

The car, nearly new, automatically phoned JLR who said I believe you have broken down. Yes she said. OK we will pick it up tomorrow!... Read more

With modern cars having no manual key facility it’s even more important to get the batteries changed every year.

Toyotas do - the key blade for door entry is stored in the fob & the fob (even with a dead battery) can be held against the starter switch & it will work....

Some years ago the use of diesel made from reclaimed chip-fryer fat became quite popular for a time but then seemed to fade into relative obscurity. However, in the last few weeks I've smelt that characteristic pong several times, while out driving (and no, I wasn't driving past a fish & chip shop at the time!).

Has the recent rise in price of diesel made from crude oil triggered a revival of this more pungent alternative?... Read more

I have a 1996 Peugeot 406 with the 1.9XUDT engine and Bosch fuel system. In the past I've used anything up to approx 80% veg oil. In the winter I cut this down to about 30%. There would be a little coughing and spluttering on cold starts but this would soon clear. The car would then run as normal.

Had no qualms shoving veg oil into a ropey old Peugeot but would not do it with anything much newer.

"In its current state the A**** is a busy road, and currently struggles to cope with an increasing traffic demand, which results in significant congestion at peak periods. This means it is not as easy to walk or cycle along it, as it potentially could be.

O would not cycle round here. Narrow roads, poor surfaces, killer roundabouts too narrow for articulated lorries and LOT of hills. In winter it is very wet.

Last year l was a little disappointed when the Rav (55 plate) l failed the mot. Though it actually failed on the front discs, it was the advisories on the front subframe & sills that was of concern; the other advisory was "matter" on the rear brake pipes.

Earlier this year the local independent removed the step plates, which seemed to be retaining mud & such, wire brushed & sprayed the underside with his own concoction of engine oil & wax. Cost £30... Read more

Hello, I was thinking of fitting step plates . Mainly for my wife to have easier access . Sound like this may not be a good idea ? Mine is a 2007 model. Thanks is advance for any advice.

Why?, I can't see any mention in the posts so far that suggest the fitting of side steps is a bad idea....
