Good evening
How long does it take for the GOV website to upload MOT certification?... Read more
Seems the powers that be have decided to stop rolling out motorways without hard shoulders. The original decision to remove hard shoulders has made sections of the motorways downright dangerous, it dosen't take much imagination to see the problems for a family broken down, a disabled person, passenger or driver with huge lorries hurtling along a few feet from you and trying to get your occupants out safely and as far away from the traffic as quickly as possible. They had not built smart motorways when I was involved in an incident on the M40. A driver had probably fallen asleep, swerved across me and hit the central reservation. Flying over my bonnet and hittinf the car on my left it ended upside down on a real hard shoulder. My wife had phoned 999 before I had stopped and anothe man complete with paramedic jacket got out of his car too.
First point. if this had been a smart motorway the driver would have probably five seconds before being hit by a HGV with obvious consequences. Second, nobody could have stopped and even the emergency services could have been in danger....
I notice that Citroen are now taking orders/reservations for the Ami. You pay a £250 refundable fee and presumably get first pick when imports start into the UK- which they say will be spring 2022.
I'm almost tempted to throw in £250, especially with the very low cost. It would suit my needs for driving around Birmingham, even if there are a few 40 limit roads on my way to work! Hopefully Citroen might be able to coax the top speed up to 30mph. But at least it could be driven flat out everywhere! ... Read more
I’ve done it, I’ve put down £250 as a reservation. My email confirmation says that a salesperson will be in touch soon, although I expect that ‘soon’ will be several months time. My reservation number is over 150,000, but I doubt that reflects the number of reservations received.
To give some perspective to the horrendous fuel price at the moment, I filled-up yesterday:
62 litres - £87.00 (Costco, so a decent price)... Read more
Were fuel (say) 3 time the price, we would think far more carefully about how we organise our lives. There is no quick fix - social and economic structures have evolved over the last 75 years since WW2 on the back of cheap fuel and mobility.
Assuming you accept that burning of hydrocarbons is raising the global temperature, there will have to be a self-imposed 'fix' in the shape of everyone agreeing to travel less. Sadly we have all got accustomed to doing that whenever we like, because (as you say) it is cheap and we have lots to spend. The only sums we do involve time and money, not natural resources.
RAC have a video (stupid) on their web site (YouTube) that says to stay in your car when you breakdown on a smart motorway and phone them then you have to get through all the dribble before you can ask for recovery ! - I did stop and stay in my car to make the call; am now dead so can not now comment !

Need to quote the RAC advice in full. In the video (1;11) it says stay in you car if you cannot reach an emergency refuge and call 999. In the text there is the added advice (italics) below.
If you cannot get to an emergency refuge area, you should try to move on to the verge if there is no safety barrier and it is safe to do so
In all cases, switch on your hazard warning lights
If you stop in the nearside lane, exit your vehicle via the nearside (left hand) door if it is safe to do so and wait behind the safety barrier, if there is one
If it is not possible to get to the nearside lane or exit your vehicle safely, then you should stay in your vehicle with your seat belt on and dial '999' if you have access to a mobile phone...
Budget max £10000. Usually drive around 6,000 pa on A roads, avoid motorways. Steady driving.

Thanks I'll have a look.
Finding some on passenger side wing, lifting a bit since there is a bit of rust getting under it. Doesn't look like damage repair, though that side has a dent in the front corner which may have helped loosen it.
Not really a problem, since I'll pick it off and treat,, and something else is going to kill the car anyway (current favorite: no high beam, a definite inspection fail)... Read more
Well, like I said, doesn't look damaged. The bit I pulled off yesterday was on the rim of the wheel arch, and seemed to be to smooth the transition. Not obviously distorted.
Probably never know, and it doesn't matter anyway, but this Wickipedia entry for the third generation Toyota Zace (another Thirld World vehicle that I quite fancy)...
Following a good friends' unfortunate incident involving a car park bollard, I'd be obliged if any members of the Forum could either:

Promises 273. But what is the real life range? That is all that matters, promises ae worthless when you have parted with your cash.

Have heard MG cars are not under sealed. If so not good for our climate.
