Having just renewed my insurance policy and deciding to go with another company, I was reading my policy documents ( as I’m sure everyone on here does) when I came to a section about automated self driving cars, it says I won’t be covered if I have an accident if the car is driving itself, I don’t have a self driving car, or do I.?, my car can park itself, either reversing into a space ( used it twice) or parallel parking ( not tried it) , now I still have to use the accelerator and brake but the car does everything else, now is this classed as self driving, yes I know it’s only parking, but if I have an accident and have to claim whilst using this feature would I be covered..? This isn't a new issue. Imagine a situation with a faulty automatic gearbox which selects neutral when the driver uses kickdown while overtaking.
Apparently the Welsh Government is not going to build any more new roads to disencourage car use. Read more
While China and India continue to open coal power stations, Wales is committing to economic self harm.
So which do you think is the better option ?
Hello!
I was parked stationary on a side kerb yesterday.
I started the car as normal and turned the steering wheel to the right to dismount the kerb.
I then heard a loud bang/pop from the front drivers side.
Checked tyres etc everything seemed to be fine.
When I started driving I noticed the steering wheel was a lot looser.
Obviously took it straight back home.
The tyres turn when they should but the steering wheel takes double the amount of turns to full lock now as well as generally being loose.
It’s going to the garage today, but any ideas what it could be?
Thanks Read more

My guess is something like a steering rack mounting broke. I've experienced this when a colleague slid a works van on ice into a kerb sideways, hard. How on earth he managed to continue driving it, I'll never know. I got in it and refused to take it out of the yard.

You are not alone in missing the he hat himself.
A brake lining detached from a shoe again. This has happened 3 or 4 times, suggesting that, even for the Skywing it might be worth buying brake parts from known manufacturers, IF I knew where I could get them.
I think in the rainy season rust forms on the backing plate surface and forces the lining off. I could soak them in vegetable oil but that might inhibit braking as well as rust. Might try sealing the edges with superglue, but I suspect the lining material is porous enough to allow rusting through the face.... Read more
Perhaps a less dangerous kind of asbestos though. IIRC "white asbestos" was used in pipe lagging and was especially dangerous, but none of them are harmless.
Blue asbestos was the really nasty variety. And of course many DiY garages had 'asbestos' roofs and sometimes sides too. But most of that was cement, though cutting to size would have made some nasty dust....
I have unlocked the car using the key fob, but the boot remains locked, even though the dashboard display says the boot is open. Any ideas please? Read more

Impressive.... but I wonder how a huge, spacious body, bigger than a Duster, can be fitted onto the underpinnings of s Sandero... a Rebault Clio clone. Read more

After running an old Ford for two decades have finally agreed with the family to purchase a much newer vehicle. Going from a late 90's Ford to a fairly modern car will be a welcome change. Currently looking at approved used Lexus GS\IS models that are within the current budget which is ideally no more than £26k. The later ES seems to be outside this budget.
Criteria for the car loosely specified is:... Read more
Thanks Engineer Andy, dealer unable to source a spare and Lexus UK have confirmed in this country there is no part number. There is clearly space in the boot for one to be fitted and secured. Reading the forums the GS300H spare does fit so will look to acquire one of these. Interestingly the tyre repair kit includes a jack and wheel brace but no actual spare wheel.
In the end did test drive the following vehicles before deciding:...
I purchased a van from a dealer 4 months ago, the cambelt as snapped and caused engine damage, the van is a 2017 with 74k on clock at time of purchase, I've done less than 3k since purchase, do I have any claim for the repairs from the dealer? Read more

My niece used to own a Renault Megane.
On one occasion she experienced very similar symptoms to what you describe, OP, after having her car cleaned and valeted. Clearly some moisture had found it's way into the electrics which isn't difficult on a Renault! They aren't renowned for the quality of their electrics, I'm afraid....
