I posted this in the bikers section, but there does not seem to be much trafiic there, so thought I would try here too.

Please does anyone know whether the HT leads can be simply unscrewed from the coils on this bike. The old ones have been cut off halfway to the plug cap, so an extension will be needed if the original leads cannot be disconnected from the coils. Many thanks :-) Read more

Many thanks for your reply and advice - greatly appreciated. It can be tempting to pull or twist a bit too hard on something that doesn't want to move! Thanks also for your suggestion regarding the extension. That bit of the bike rebuild can now move forwards :-)

You will find there are bikers here as well, as you've found in the Technical forum. Most bikers also run cars. But yes, HJ is probably not best known for biking.

My wife is looking for a new (used car). There's not lots of choice locally but, looking on Autotrader, there are lots of garages and companies that deliver the car to you - you look at the photos and buy online.

No doubt covid has fuelled this way of buying, but how 'safe' is it to buy this wat? Is it to be avoided or is there enough protection for the buyer if said car turns out to be not as good as photos and videos show?... Read more

The nearside foglight on my Avensis had the glass broken a few years ago. Toyota replacement was, as I recollect, around the £180 mark fitted. I bought a cheap pattern part on Ebay made fo genuine Chinese plastic for less than £20 and fitted it myself. Still working and my knuckles have repaired themselves.

Hi All

Really hoping you can help me!

I purchased a 16 plate car from a local garage on 13th August.
Went to collect the car and as soon as I drove it off the forecourt noticed an engine coolant warning.
Walked straight back into the garage to raise this to be told it was due to new coolant being added and the system not registering etc etc - forgive me I have very basic car knowledge. Was assured after the manager drove it that it had plenty of coolant and the warning would disappear and if not, they would collect and fix this. Had the car at home for less than a week and the warning didn’t go.

Garage collected the car and dropped off a temp car while they looked at it. Fast forward 2 weeks later I’ve just been told that the car has bigger engine problems and isn’t worth the money to fix it! To say I am gutted is an understatement! After paying over £17k this isn’t what you expect.

I’ve now been left with 2 options from the garage:
1. Take a refund
2. Buy a £2k more slightly newer Volvo they have in stock.

After spending a year saving and shelling out on dog guards etc to fit this exact car I feel I am stuck.
Is there anything I can do? I’ve explained I don’t have an extra £2k in the budget but really need to sort this out as am travelling shortly and desperately needed the bigger car.

Am I entitled to a discount/compensation on top of my refund? I’ve currently got just under 2 weeks to source a new volvo or pay out more for the other one they have.

Feel like I am stuck between a rock and a hard place!

Sometimes on the motorway it's not just how much power you have on tap but how a car responds to conditions - eg side winds/overtaking lorries. Until a year ago we had an old Octavia 1.4 mpi (not turbo) that only had 75ps. It actually was surprisingly good on a motorway. Whereas our 1.2 Panda whilst a great town car is frankly awful on a motorway - it's capable of motorway speeds but you have to hang on for dear life if passing a lorry or if the weather is windy.

Good test drive needed...
