I have been running one of the above for 2 years now and find the car superb in every respect. I see there is quite a lot of discussion re fuel consumption of PHEV's.

Obviously, the more miles you do on electric, the better the overall result will be. In the real world though, motorway and long distance driving does crop up.... Read more

Ah that would explain it, still strong money for an old van, I think you did well. You are right, prices have gone up sharply, someone my brother knows does conversions as a sideline business to his garage repair/service workshop, even getting decent base vans to start with is getting harder as anything good is getting snapped up by couriers etc. Transporters as ever are very pricey but I think the bubble will burst when all those first-time staycationers actually find running a van is quite expensive and return to jetting off somewhere for their holidays.

If you buy a Venga then get the software dealer updated. This took ours (2019) from 27mpg to over 40mpg after I complained. It's only done 4000 miles...

What prevents manufacturers making modern cars which look like old classics like 1960s Rolls Royce, Dusenberg, Jaguar E type etc.

Is there no market for such looking cars or there is technical difficulty with all the mandated safety requirement nowadays? Read more

If they still made them, then they wouldn't be.

Agree. Do not touch any Ford equipped with either the fragile Powershift gearbox or the weak 1.0 Ecoboom motor. Avoid any VAG product with their DSG gearbox too.

Hi all - I am tearing whats left of my hair out with my Outlander. It's the 2.0 Diesel (the VW PD unit) - 2007 Elegance DiD. I am having Crankshaft Sensor problems.

When the car is completely cold it will start first turn of the key and perform normally for about 10 minutes. As soon as it gets hot the engine goes into limp mode and the Engine Management light comes on. OBDC shows as "Crankshaft Position Sensor A". When the car cools down (few hours) it will start fine again.

Yeh, thats better.

Hi

Ive started a claim with my existing car insurance not realising how high my excess is, no work has been started yet and i qas wondering if i could cancel this claim and reopen it with my new insurer where my excess is half the price. Im really struggling financially right now and really cannot afford the current excess or to pay myself for the car repairs. Read more

Don’t try to con insurance firms, they’ll catch you out and having insurance withdrawn or being done for fraud relating to it will see you uninsurable. Either claim and accept the excess or don’t claim, these are your two options.

I've owned my Mark 4 Golf 1.9sdi for 16years and done most of the maintenance myself in that time. Its one of 2 cars in the household and a couple of years ago i bought the wife a 67 plate 1.7crdi Sportage. I may be wrong but the 2 engines seem very similar other than the Kia engine is chain cam and obviously quieter. The 1.7crdi seems to have a good reputation for reliability and i've often wondered if Kia copied and improved the 1.9. The 1.7 debuted in 2010 about the time the 1.9 was being discontinued and the designer of the latest generation of Sportage was ex Audi. Any thoughts? Read more

The Hyundai/Kia 1.7 CRDi is part of the U-series of diesels with 3-cylinder 1.1/1.2 and 4-cylinder 1.4/1.5/1.6/1.7 versions.

Hyundai have enough in-house engineers to design these, plus the R-series 2.0/2.2 and S-series 3.0 V6 without copying VW.
