I broke it by reverse connecting the battery cables a couple of years ago, fiddled around with it fruitlessly (and cluelessly) and gave up.

Now have bit of time and an online manual and am having another go.... Read more

Thanks. I'll look into it.

Some components are missing, suggesting its been scavenged for parts while it was looking abandoned, irritating but understandable, and likely to add to what was already looking to be a big bill....

Just wondered if anyone has experience with towing with electric cars. Only a few seem capable and I think you have to turn off the energy recovery under braking? Wondering if it’s worth even considering if range Is reduced too much, although I wouldn’t want to tow much more than a folding camper Read more

Most of the charging setups in the uk are drive in, or reverse in, not drive through like some in the States, would be quite a faff to remove the trailer every time you need to charge.

We flew from Stansted a couple of years ago (well the plane did) and the taxi driver stuck three pounds on the fare as the airport charged this for dropping us off, apparently Heathrow and Gatportairwick are charging a fiver for the privilege now.

It's not a lot really but annoying all the same. Read more

I tend to use public transport now when flying

We live about an hour's train ride from M'cr airport, and can fly from there to most of the places we are interested in. So as we are close to a station with hourly trains to it, that is what we use. It's a bit of a hike to check-in, but no worse than from many car parks - and no worries about damage to the car....

I have asked this on a few forums and since this is such a good one, I think it is a good idea to ask here too in case there are more/better answers/explanations.

Replaced chrome exhaust header pipes with stainless steel. No re-jetting according to the manufacturer.... Read more

craig-pd130

The aftermarket header pipes maybe need sealing with high-temp RTV where they meet the exhaust gasket. If that doesn't cure it, it's also possible the aftermarket headers have a slightly different (larger) internal diameter to the factory originals. Original headers are often double-skinned (smaller ID), and I suspect the stainless replacements are not.

The different ID will alter the fuel/air mix a little, especially in high-vacuum situations such as on the overrun or steady light throttle. You might be able to dial out the problem by playing with the pilot screw setting. Manuals will usually give a pilot screw setting with a range of plus or minus a quarter of a turn. Whichever is the richer direction for your pilot screws, try half a turn in the richer direction and see if it improves things.

I understand that for a NEW car with a list price of more than £40,000, the Road Tax for years 2,3,4,and 5 is £475. So, the list price of £40k, does it include extra for paint or is it the base listed cost?... Read more

Trade down to an SR - well under the £40K and no 5 year surcharge...

A 2014 reg (13) ix20 auto has just come on the market. FSH and excellent MOT record. Howevr, I'm concerned it has only.done 11,479 miles. I've asked about fluid changes but not had a response yet. Is it a cause for concern, or is it just me ?

Less mpg on tc not an important issue with my lowish mileage. However wondering whether post 2015 facelift might be a better buy.... Read more

Thanks again. John F unfortunately no longer physically up to that, but appreciate advice. Clearly, common sense, it will also depend on environment.

I have been running one of the above for 2 years now and find the car superb in every respect. I see there is quite a lot of discussion re fuel consumption of PHEV's.

Obviously, the more miles you do on electric, the better the overall result will be. In the real world though, motorway and long distance driving does crop up.... Read more

Ah that would explain it, still strong money for an old van, I think you did well. You are right, prices have gone up sharply, someone my brother knows does conversions as a sideline business to his garage repair/service workshop, even getting decent base vans to start with is getting harder as anything good is getting snapped up by couriers etc. Transporters as ever are very pricey but I think the bubble will burst when all those first-time staycationers actually find running a van is quite expensive and return to jetting off somewhere for their holidays.

If you buy a Venga then get the software dealer updated. This took ours (2019) from 27mpg to over 40mpg after I complained. It's only done 4000 miles...
