3 owners isn't much, which is good. How long has its current/most recent owner had it?. I'm wondering if the oil leak is the reason it is now for sale?.

Not enough knowledge to say one way or t'other, but I'd be going nowhere near it without further investigation into the oil leak, how serious and costly it would be to fix....

Hi to All, and hope somebody can help. My BMW was starting okay from cold but got harder to start when warm/hot until now which it cranks but does not start. I have checked all the relays and fuses which appear to be fine, I then located the fuel pump on the drivers side under the rear seat, and fitted a new check valve and while doing this put some fuel line from the check valve into a pop bottle turned on the ignition and diesel was filling the pop bottle with pressure so I assume no problems there. I then replaced the fuel filter under the car (passenger side), and still no start, but did notice that now the diesel fuel pump next to it is always priming every time you attempt to start the car, so replaced that and still no start but still constantly priming. A friend said it might be air in the fuel system with changing the filter etc, so he came over and removed the return pipe off one of the injectors while I turned the engine a few cranks, and diesel came spurting out under pressure, finally he sprayed some Easy start down the air inlet while I turned the engine and it started within about 4 cranks. So we let it warm up for about 30 minutes which it was running with no problems, however turned it off and attempted to start again, and back to square one, no start, started it again with easy start, let it run again for a while, then off, and again no start. Since then have tested the camshaft sensor with a voltmeter and appears to be working fine, that only leaves the crankshaft sensor which at the moment I can`t even locate never mind test, but got a funny feeling that is going to be fine as well. Just can`t understand why it wont start and the fuel pump is constantly priming. ANY Help would be much appreciated, Regards, Darrin. Read more

If it runs for half an hour , then it’s very unlikely to be the crank sensor . Fuel should not come out of the spill pipes under pressure, should be a steady dribble. You could have injector issues . Have you measured fuel pressure under real time data ?

Hi, my car was sideswiped by a bus (first bus) they have admitted liability act I have used accident management company to deal with it all but I have came across stumbling block the parts for my car are NLA due to the age and type of the car (Japanese import) the engineer valued my car between £21000 to £25000 and the cost of damage has come to £5000 my door is a total mess also the wing wheels front bumper ect My car is completely original with 80k on the clock they were saying something about cash in lieu payment where I would get the repair money and the car back, this option is no good for me as I will never be able to repair the car especially the door as they are only made for the type r What options do I have here any advice would be great.

Time to do some research into potential repair costs.

Plenty of owners club websites and I'd also call a few Subaru dealers as they are generally well informed. My local - KT Green of Leeds - run Impreza rally cars so it may be worth a call to them for some advice on sourcing parts and finding good repair specialists.

Hello,
Recently I bought a Seat Ibiza (2009) for my first car, in the first 10 days of driving, a fuel injector has gone. I’ve decided to completely return and refund the car which was bought from a family run garage. At first they said there is a 25p charge for every mile I have put on, and then it went up to 45p and now they’re trying 75p. In any case this wouldn’t be a big deal, however I have put 700 miles on (which they know). I was wondering if anyone knew about this and whether it’s a legal requirement and if I can dispute or avoid it in any way.

Many thanks for any help. Read more

I don't know if my experience will be of any use to you - it depends how you paid for the car. If you bought it on HP/PCP your rights are all against the finance company, not the dealer.

Last year I bought a Used Approved Suzuki and rejected it within 30 days. Suzuki Finance (LloydsBanking Group) not much use (they were fined £63m last year for poor customer service)....

I was wondering having seen the flash flooding in parts of the country would you even contemplate taking your EV even through a shallow flood? How well are the batteries protected from water ingress? Read more

My initial post was just about deciding whether to drive though even a low level flood in your EV.. When you see the way some drive through floods and the bow wave they create I think I would think twice about it. As regards floods whereby the interior is compromised as well most cars are a write off. I would not try any flood that was higher than the sills.

Shouldn't drive through with any car really unless it's really necessary/emergency.

Looks like a cross between the latest KIA Stonic (ok-ish) 208 (nice looking, externally) and the Golf (not, compared to the mk VII). And what is it with so many makes going the (tacky - few look good) 'two-tone' colour scheme? Read more

just a quick look on the internet found my answer.

He added: “We have an alternative to Ellesmere Port.”

It follows PSA’s announcement in June that the Astra would only be built at Ellesmere Port on the condition that the UK’s exit from the EU occurred on favourable terms. (which they haven't)

In the clearest message from a major manufacturer that a bad Brexit would affect manufacturing plans PSA said while it will build the MK8 Astra at two European factories, “The decision on the allocation to the Ellesmere Port plant will be conditional on the final terms of the UK’s exit from the European Union”.

So what i**** would allow a manufacturer to buy a factory then close it causing thousands and thousands of job losses there's only one i**** BORIS

A caveat! For all I know these may have been in use for ages, but due to lockdown I haven't been out of my local area much so only use 1 or 2 local fuel stations.

However I am currently away in North Wales and used a Shell garage today just outside Llandudno Junction. Rather than the all familiar trigger handle you simply pressed fast flow or slow flow on the handle and it filled the tank.... Read more

Hi there

We are a family of 5 looking for a car recommendation.. we’re upgrading from a 2009 Yaris.

We have two kids in child seats (ages 4 and 1) and a 12 year old who sits between them. In the Yaris, that’s a tight fit!

We also want enough space to take camping gear - as at the moment we have to do every trip in two journeys..!

So the requirements are:

1. Enough width across the back to fit a teenager sitting between two car seats.
2. Decent luggage space.

We originally thought about an Octavia estate, but the space between two child seats seems even narrower than the Yaris (this is somewhat determined by the isofix points). The new Focus estate looks better, but we’d prefer to buy an older model as it’s more in our price range.. it would be interesting to know if the old Focus would fit the bill. In both cases we were looking at an estate as it would obviously help with the luggage question.

In terms of budget, hoping to spend around £10k, planning on something a few years old and say 30k-40k miles.

Oh - and we do about 3500 miles a year.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

“ I'd say get the best large estate car you can find and look to keep it for ten years or more.”

I’d agree but diesel won’t suit your usage and large petrol estates are relatively thin on the ground so you may need to spend a bit more to get a good one.

I just found a great car on Auto Trader:

It is that time of the year again trying to decide what to do! Present supplier Shell is telling me energy costs are going up some £250 per year If you can believe them. They give you a choice of some fixed rate tariffs which if you multiply the 12 monthly payments by the direct debit is some £636pa plus what I paid in the last 12 month. They do not readily give you the Kwh rates or the daily standing charges or indeed the total years usage in Kwh or making difficult to find. I have tried the switching sites and they are quoting a group of companies that are cheaper but not that far away from Shell

Questions Why do the comparison site want you to quote your present supplier and tariff... Read more

"""I switched from Avro earlier this year. They were late producing the final bill, late in refunding my credit balance and only paid up the £60 statutory compensation for these failures when I complained. This is supposed to be paid automatically""""

As I said earlier I switched to AVRO on the 8th Aug. It is all a revolving door is it not? Energy companies gaining and loosing customers keeping large number of people employed usually for not a lot of monetary difference but a lot of hassle and I still do not fully understand the many hundreds of tariffs and neither do half the staff employed. I rang BG having seen one of their tariffs in the mail, the chap did not have a clue....
