This is not so much a technical question as much as it is an interesting story, today I went to the dealer because there was a strange noise that sounded like a cross between a bad bearing and a flag waving in the wind, also it only appeared over 90 km/h and was quite noticeable. Anyone that does not care about the full story please skip to the last paragraph.
So I went to a normal Toyota dealer at about 10 AM this morning and they went for a test drive and at around 11:30 AM, after 1 and a half hours they sent me to the main dealer since they had replaced the back bumper earlier this year and they thought it was the bumper.... Read more

Hi, does anyone have experience of Saga or Aviva car insurance? I'm torn between the two, the only thing that puts me off Aviva is that it's online only claims. I'm not sure if that's as good as being able to speak to an assistant. Any opinions welcome. Thanks. Read more
Like Andrew I would look at raising the excess. If I was facing a small claim I would rather settle it myself than use the insurer.
I get what you mean, but going with Aviva the difference is £7 between £100 excess and no excess. ...

It's not a requirement to have ANY windows behind the driver, eg vans - so there should be no issue.

So I've got another thread detailing oil burning issues with my 2012 civic. Some folk who know a lot more about cars than me are suggesting it may be the time to get rid and sort another car.
Next car wise i'm thinking of getting something bigger, 2 growing kids, camping, DIY etc. The Civic has been great in all respects of the above but a bit more space will make more sense. I also tow occasionally but only motorbikes, nothing heavy.... Read more
Bit of a Mondeo fan myself and the 2.0 TDCi is the one to have for all round ability and economy. It can suffer the usual diesel related issues if it isn’t looked after or sees a regular long run but they’re generally pretty robust. I hope it serves you well.
The trouble is that surely these figures depend somewhat on the level of policing on the roads in these areas. Read more
I don’t understand why South Wales is listed - an indeterminate area that could mean roughly half of Wales, and then Gwent, a specific county in, yes, South Wales.
Are they separate Policing Counties.?
Illegal here in Spain to not restrain dogs in the back seat or behind a guard, a really sensible law. Read more
We bought a boat to live on in the south of France for six months a year and realised we would have to take our Burmese cat. We purchased a cat box and before we got to Dover I had to let him out to stop the non stop crying. He settled on the rear parcel shelf or where ever he was comfortable and was never any problem. He travelled with us to France for five years and was as much at home on the boat as as the car. We got many amused comments from the French! but then he was a Burmese.
My son purchased a Focus ST3 from a dealership at the beginning of June for approx £13k. It was purchased online, paid for, and delivered a week later on the 8th June. His old car was part exchanged and he paid £400 for warranty.
The following day it had an engine service now warning, and subsequently over the course of the week reverted to limp mode. Due to the distance from the original dealer, it was booked into a Ford Main Dealer to investigate at the earliest available date on 23rd June. It required a new sensor (not sure which) and a remap relating to a recall for emissions. Ford stated it should not have been sold with this outstanding ? They also fixed the Traction Control and the Auto Stop/Start (these had been unplugged !). The car was collected on the 30th June. Cost £295 paid by the original dealer.... Read more
Excellent result, let's hope he has more luck with the next purchase.
I have a budget of £10-12k, perhaps a little higher if something stands out, and would like to get myself a large-ish (ie Golf is minimum size) second-hand car. My priority is something that is comfortable, spacious, hopefully stands out a bit and has decent performance. I am only doing around 10k miles a year so fuel costs are not my biggest concern. Also I won't be pottering aroung in it doing small journeys. We are a family of 4, all full sized adults, and wouldn't anticipate needing to carry more people than that very often. I would ideally like something with less than 60k miles but perhaps could be persuaded to go to 80k. Read more
You can get a kia approved Ceed for 12k.the approved use car comes with 7 years warranty from the date you buy.
