We hired new employee last week and just had a chat with her yesterday. Apparently she was heading the task force dealing with abandoned cars for Cardiff city. I was surprised as it's year's since I saw abandoned cars in our neck of the woods, is this a wider issue?

This article is in the DM on line if anyone is interested. PC visited a small H powered car maker. The car itself is very streamlined, not a looker in my view but it is a good start in the new tech.... Read more
James May now has a Toyota Mirai. You can only buy one if you live near a hydrogen filling station. UK currently has just one outside of the south east.

Due full servicing tomorrow. Enquiring regarding a Air Con, re-gas, haven’t had it one done since I bought the car in 2016. Read more
The air con on my A4 is shot and a repair will cost more than the car is worth.
Those two values are not connected. If the car is worth repairing (to you) then get the aircon fixed. It will cost you less than scrapping and finding another car....

This made me chuckle. I'll have a look at the Skoda.
Any views about the Skoda Enyak? Go electric maybe?
My current much-loved Honda FRV 2.2CDTI is just about dead, sadly not cost effective to repair.

I suspect that as an insurance company have written it off (and paid out) they don't want to again.
Hi all,
I’m after a bit of advice if you can,
I have a Hyundai i40 Tourer, March 2015 plate, 75k on the clock,
Just lately when driving at slow speeds I hear a squeaking sound, sounds a bit like the brakes do when they need replacing but it’s not when I’m braking it’s noticeable when moving off at slow speed or even letting the car slow on its own (rolling up to light/junction etc) alongside this I’ve also noticed it feels wobbly/vibration up through the steering column when going over bumps or simply an a road which isn’t totally flat , seems worse when slowing down on a decline,
I had the steering column replaced this time last year due to a knocking noise when turning the steering wheel (it is making the same noise again) if I turn the wheel when stationary left and right it’s making a clicking/knocking noise (I don’t know much about cars so don’t know if that’s normal etc)
Overall it just feels different to drive at the moment (I don’t think I’m over thinking it) :)
Feel like I would like to get a rough idea what it could be before I go to the garage as I saw on a Hyundai Facebook group someone had some
Vibration and it’s been back and forth to a garage and cost him £690 so far replacing bits and he still has the issue, would like to avoid that if possible.
Thanks in advance for any advice

Thank you for you help ????
Question about any make and model.....why is it, whatever job needs doing on my car, the garage/mechanic always wants it first thing in the morning and keeps it all day?
This seems to happen regardless of where i take it (talking about many cars over many years).... Read more
I use my local independent garage, and as I don't need the car every day I book it in but say that if they can't finish the job the same day then the next day is OK. I know they appreciate that as other jobs can over-run as others have mentioned. On the few times I do need it back quickly then I know they will always have it ready.
Unfortunately, for various reasons, its really difficult for me not to have a car. A day is stressful but anything longer causes all sorts of complications. I realise unseen problems can crop up (and often have done with my old cars) so i do my best to just let the mechanic/garage get on with it, but have in the past had to walk miles to work because theres no public transport for eg. I plan to run this car into the ground so I'll probably have plenty of opportunities to build a relationship with this "new" garage!
I have just had the three year 27k service on my Golf. The VW garage rang leaving a message that the brakes would need attention in another month. I assumed they meant pads but when I got there it turned out they meant the brake fluid change was due then.
The pads were (drum roll) only 10% worn. I think they must be underestimating the wear but even with a margin of error this seems remarkably low. My previous Civic pads were flagged up around 30k. And again at 70k, when discs also were needed.
Fair play to VW!
I will have the brakes given a proper old fashioned service by my indie soon and he can change the fluid then. I know opinions differ re brake fluid changes but paying for one change during my tenure seems worthwhile. Read more
After 7 years of motorway driving I decide to change all four discs at 140,000 miles, my pads last 50k( front) and rears 70k
