A cheap code reader is unlikely to give adequate real time data . Perhaps someone with a better scanner could help . Interpretation of this data is the key to a fix . Has the fuel filter been renewed ? These engines are very sensitive to any loss of fuel supply.
With the E10 fuel now being foisted onto us. Its a given that mpg is worse even the RAC and Which acknowledge that.
So has anyone found any "snake oil" additive to reclaim the lost ponies? And is it turbo and Cat safe? Read more
Go for a professional level petrol additive, rather than the retail types that you see in supermarkets and online.
Fueltone pro is my 'go to' . Even ahead of the change to E10, Fueltone petrol additive Octane boost and system claen has brought my ten year old TT back to life. I love it once again.
I have left it a bit late for my MoT test this year mainly due to the changes in MoT extension due to COVID I forgot to sort it. I have a booking for my usual garage but they cannot do it until just before mine expires.
I wondered if any other local testers would be available before my booking just on the off chance i could get in earlier. Googling I found BookMyGarage which displays local garages and prices... ..... Read more

Another amusing post from John F, can't wait for next weeks installment. 10 uses for 10 year old used engine oil maybe?
I have an old 20l can to store old oil in which makes rare trips to the tip when full, because there are so many uses for it...... Read more
In an old car with a high mileage engine burning around a litre of oil every 2,000 miles, I think there might be a reasonable argument to be made for not bothering to change the oil and just changing the oil filter every 10,000 miles till it dies.
PS I live in the countryside.
Hello there,
I have recently bought a 2018 Golf (as above) with only 10,000 miles on the clock, the previous owner being a disabled lady. Does anybody have this model, and can confirm, if a knock from ANY of the four wheels, is characteristic? It only happens on certain type of bumps in the road, probably deeper one's. I can’t believe at 10,000 miles ... Read more
It's amazing how much the sound of even the tiniest amount of play in an anti-roll bar drop link will amplify when you drive, so if you have any play at all you should replace them.
Reading up on faults on the 1.5 turbo civic and oil dilution keeps getting mentioned, Coukd someone lexplain what this means Ta. ??
It appears not all suffer from it, but I gather Honda and another tuning firm are investigating and Honda are talking about redesigning the head and injection system to prevent it happening at all, be interesting to see what they do....
Looking to trade in and get a newer,/new car.
Doesn't see to much I want in the used market so was thinking of taking the plunge into the new market but having never bought on ... Read more
Trade in depends how much. There is usually a maximum deposit allowed on a PCP. If your trade in is more you may get a cash refund once everything is agreed. Get a price from webuyanycar so you know what its worth.
Car is owned by the finance company until fully paid for....
Anyone heard of Pennine Car Sales NW in stockport. I've seen a Kia Rio for my daughter on autotrader which seems a really good car and price, mot checks out too but the trader only has a mobile phone and no website/email etc . Always bothers me a bit ?

Someone was asking about a Toyota Aygo my partner is on her second one very good car running cost low MPG good only 2 things let it down very small boot and parcel shelf is useless keeps falling off and to thing Read more
Don't forget the 108 / C1 are basically the same car as the Aygo but with less fashionable badges attached - just remember to pick the bulletproof 1 litre Toyota powered versions & avoid the 1.2 Purecrap engine.
Luckily the Aygo was only sold with the 1 litre Toyota power unit....
For a while, Vauxhall Astra and Insignia were sold in Australia as Holdens - on GM forums, the Aussies complained about the indicators being on the wrong side but very few Brits complained about Japanese or Korean-built cars being the "right" way round.
