As a DT digital subscriber I reckon the online motoring information has increased over recent months. The large Saturday motoring section itself has long gone both in print and online but there are usually several online articles and or/reviews. There is a bit of reader criticism that a lot of the material is recycled and redated to look newer than it is. On the other hand there are many archived reviews and articles available online.
I miss HJ but this site, and the DT online and print are now giving access to a wider range of writers and views. I detect a less independent, more deferential approach to manufacturers than HJ had. He is a hard act to follow and. I doubt we will see his like again in terms of independence. As long as we are not fed advertorials I will continue to read their stuff with interest.

Another amusing post from John F, can't wait for next weeks installment. 10 uses for 10 year old used engine oil maybe?

I have an old 20l can to store old oil in which makes rare trips to the tip when full, because there are so many uses for it...... Read more

In an old car with a high mileage engine burning around a litre of oil every 2,000 miles, I think there might be a reasonable argument to be made for not bothering to change the oil and just changing the oil filter every 10,000 miles till it dies.

PS I live in the countryside.

Hello there,

I have recently bought a 2018 Golf (as above) with only 10,000 miles on the clock, the previous owner being a disabled lady. Does anybody have this model, and can confirm, if a knock from ANY of the four wheels, is characteristic? It only happens on certain type of bumps in the road, probably deeper one's. I can’t believe at 10,000 miles ... Read more

It's amazing how much the sound of even the tiniest amount of play in an anti-roll bar drop link will amplify when you drive, so if you have any play at all you should replace them.

It appears not all suffer from it, but I gather Honda and another tuning firm are investigating and Honda are talking about redesigning the head and injection system to prevent it happening at all, be interesting to see what they do....

Trade in depends how much. There is usually a maximum deposit allowed on a PCP. If your trade in is more you may get a cash refund once everything is agreed. Get a price from webuyanycar so you know what its worth.

Don't forget the 108 / C1 are basically the same car as the Aygo but with less fashionable badges attached - just remember to pick the bulletproof 1 litre Toyota powered versions & avoid the 1.2 Purecrap engine.

Luckily the Aygo was only sold with the 1 litre Toyota power unit....

It works abroad when they have the two speed limits displayed clearly on signs. The advantage abroad is that
A.they actually have POLICE that enforce these speed limits. Unlike this country that first of all have removed 80% of traffic police and
B. think that SMART motorways are safe.
In Europe when driving you have to have your vehicle documents on you, you are required to have reflective coats for all occupants and also carry reflecting safety triangles.
Now wouldn't that be a common sense move to enforce on these i****ic SMART motorways.
But what can you expect from someone educated in a Public School and who in their right mind would consider building the new Tesla factory in Somerset!!!!!

Watching the real Police TV programmes it makes me cringe that when the criminals are caught the Law is a joke with fines like £35 or community working but what else can you expect from i****s, your honor. Read more

Not sure if this is true. My OH has just bought a brand new car from Kia. She checked over all the documentation presented to her. The log book has come back with a mistake in her name. ...
