I found a car I wanted. The Mercedes dealership was closed. I had not seen the car. No paperwork was signed. I changed my mind about the car within 24 hours of placing a deposit. The car is in Lancashire and I am in Portsmouth. Can I get my deposit back? Read more

So, looking at a 2015 Peugeot 308SW, cat N about £2½k below market.
I have little info yet about the car, but I'm thinking that the damage on a car about 3 years old (don't really know *when* it happened) must have been quite major to be a write off? Would you agree? Any advice (other than the obvious don't buy it!)?... Read more

You probably don't need a Vauxhall specialist - they're common enough that most workshops will have worked on them.
The Gov have announced a pilot scheme to start in Coventry to scrap older petrol 2006 and later diesels in exchange for up to £3k in vouchers for public travel bus train scooters etc. This scheme is all about pollution and emissions in an effort to clean up city air. It is voluntary at the moment but who knows what may happen in the future. Tax payers money is being used as a subsidy much the same as the effort to persuade the public into EVs. Quite how practical this will be for most remains to be seen as public transport is hopeless for many. Read more
You can't live round here without a car. God knows what older people do when they can no longer drive. Primitive is the best word to describe the public transport situation.
It's a vicious circle, isn't it ? When nearly everyone has a car there is no profit in running a bus, especially if many potential passengers have bus-passes. After WW2, most people travelled by train on railways which were pretty knackered. Better times came, car ownership grew, rail travel shrank and many stations closed. Something similar has happened to many bus routes....

Hi, oil level warning light has been coming on intermittently for the past week (ie, on for a few seconds at at time), I checked the level yesterday and it seems to be virtually dry. I've ordered some oil to click and collect, but now I'm wondering whether I need to leave the car where it is and get someone out to top it up, rather than driving to the shop. I'm seeing lots of advice that when the oil level warning light comes on, you must pull over immediately as to carry on driving could cause irreparable damage to the engine.

I've topped it up and the warning lights no longer flashing. The oil was done in September last year so I've either got a bad leak or its burning oil.
... or it was inadequately filled at the change. But some is clearly getting lost somewhere, and if you aren't driving much, there should either be oil drips where you park or blue smoke behind, or both. How many miles on the clock ? Could be valve-stem seals ?...

Washing up liquid often includes gelling agents so I wouldn't use it.

Hey all. I have a 1991 Toyota Liteace and I am struggling to find where the coolant temp sensor is. I have scoured half of the internet at this point and to no avail. I have checked the 2C workshop manual and it doesn't give a clear indication as to where it is. Only that is is somewhere on the engine :/
I would really appreciate if someone could help me out here. ... Read more
I would look for a sensor screwed into the cylinder head or thermostat housing with just one wire going to it.
If you used a credit card # as against a bank card # then if it was a reservation fee then the credit card company ....if no joy from the dealer.... would be my first port of cal. We had a drive installation lot messed us about one, I paid quite a bit on credit card. Within two days all was resolved and I got a goodwill paymeant of £250 from the credit card people, I have no idea why but didn't complain.
