Question Spare tyre

Hi, I have offered a work colleague a spare wheel and tyre for her fiesta, her wheel/ tyres are

I'd rather have two identical tyres on the front for both acceleration and deceleration!

Dunno. The standard advice is “best-tyres-on-the-back”, but that’s not much of a guide for where to put mismatching tyres.

The alloy is caked in it which means they've probably known the alloy needs replaced.

Had this happen on a set of wheels in the past, only a year old (just out of warranty) they were those pesky diamond cut ones that always corrode. Local tyre shop took off the tyres, cleaned the beads on wheel and tyre and refitted using an orange gunge that cured black. They didn't cake it on, just the same as using tyre soap. They were fine for about 2 years and then started again. Tyres needed replacing so had the wheels blasted and properly painted (etch primer, primer, colour and lacquer) and they never gave trouble whilst I had the car (another 5 years)....

Aspiring DIY mechanic looking for some advice fixing my old mk1 ford ka 2008 on 60k miles for learning purposes.

Problem started when clutch pedal is pressed; a clunking noise comes from the bellhousing which goes away when in gear. I ignored this for about a week and when on the last journey the noise got much louder and it became hard to put it into gear. I then left the car for about 6 months and have now decided to fix it on the weekends.... Read more

I may be old-fashioned, but if there are obvious faults with the bits that you can see (bad paint jobs and uneven panel gaps) I wouldn't be confident about the bits that you can't.

Then when you arrive at court, try to get there a little early and ask to see the prosecutor for your case. Show him you letter that confirms you were covered. This will give him the opportunity to check its authenticity if he feels the need. If you simply go into court when called the court may ask you to take the letter to the local police station for authentication.

Just wondering if anyone here would buy a damaged and repaired salvage car for 35% off the retail price?

Seller has before and after pics. looks like light damage and he's done the work himself and run the car for a couple of months. Read more

If it is only light damage, then probably ok . Anything with airbags deployed, water damage, stolen recovered probably not - too many problems potentially.

As mentioned selling it on can be a problem, the trade avoid them and private punters may be put off . If you are going to run it into the ground then fair enough - any insurance payout on a further claim will be low and may attract investigation....

Wouldn't bother me very much at that end of the market, because I wouldn't necessarily believe it anyway.

Given the OP's difficulties, it sounds like it wouldn't necessarily be all that quick or easy to check, and as a banger buyer you can't afford to stall for long. You either make an offer or you dont....
